Sleepy during daytime, why is it that your being called lazy?

Philippines

Some of my relatives called me lazy when I'm still young because I usually wake-up late in the morning and still at present I usually wake-up late. I do feel hurt and hated them before for tagging me lazy but I am a night-owl that I can have with out sleep all night for doing many things. In fact, when I landed a job I preferred to work on night shift and I have experienced about seven years continuous assignment at night shift.

I think or I suggest "recharging" as the appropriate word to describe us when we are sleepy. Batteries get discharged when used. People also get tired or discharged like a battery after working. People should analyze first why people are sleepy. Tnx phoenix

you have to ignore people like that. According to your profile you are 51 but it doesn't matter. You say you are working the night shift? Well, you need to sleep sometime and working the night shift your body is used to being awake during the night and sleeping during the day. Doesn't sound as if you are lazy at all, donclaudio.

I am also a niteowl and I work nights. On my days off I stay up late because that is what I'm used to. I've always been that way. Years ago I had a daytime job and it was so hard getting to bed early and getting up early. It works. We are all different and people are too quick to judge. My daughter works nights and often is still sleeping in the afternoon. She has had people accuse her of being lazy and it just is not so. Sounds like you are doing well for yourself so it's good that you ignored them all.

I retired already about five years ago and is now receiving my monthly pension, the fruit of being a night owl. But at present, I still work at a construction company and then tending to my little business when I go home after work up to 12 mid-night. That's how a lazy person do their things. He he he I can really smile now and ignore those people that I'm telling you before.

i am totally opposite from you... i am an early person and i always prefer to work morning shift whenever i can... the earlier the better... i also always sleep early at night to make sure that i can wake up early the next day for work... everybody has a different lifestyle and it is entirely your choice... so to have somebody tagging you as "lazy" for not being an early person sounds quite harsh for me... just ignore them... you know yourself better whether you are a lazy person or not... take care and have a nice day...

I guess your body clock is used to having you sleep during the daytime. People may tag you as lazy because they are not used to seeing people awake at night and asleep in the daytime. I guess its because they, especially old people, view "nomal" as sleeping at night and waking up real early in the morning. I also sleep late and was able to cope with night shifts when I was still working. My family used to tag me as lazy and having no future until I landed that job and earned a good salary and was even able to buy my own house. Now, people at home let me sleep until noon.

i guess we cant judge people whose still sleeping during the day coz we never know if they are suffering from insomnia that cannot sleep at night. thats why they just sleep in the morning. its not really easy to judge people.

Yes indeed, we can't judge people. We better look to ourselves first then we should try to change for our own betterment. And ignoring those self righteous people is the best and right action. Happy mylotting day. Tnx for your response

(well,their idea of early)

I think it's up to them to think whatever they want with us night owl or rare day person.I believe now that we should not be bothered anymore by those kind of people, as long as we are happy and productively doing our own thing we can be proudly say I'm not lazy as they think. Thank you scarlet-woman.

as long you're not sleeping all day and sponging off the state coz you can't be bothered to work, then what's their problem, you're working, earning a living, there are a lot of people out there who just laze around all day and won't work, that's lazy

Have you tried sleeping all day? it will make you feel more tired. I think and I'm with you in telling that people who are not earning for their own provisions are the real lazy person. Tnx doormouse

yeah. I like night shifts too. I used to be assigned to a night shift. As for being called lazy sleeping in the morning i used to be called that too. It's just that most of the people are awake in the morning and it seems odd for them to see someone sleeping in the morning while they do their everyday stuff.

We are not the lazy. But they are, they can only do their thing day time. For us night-owl. . . night and day time. Isn't it?

This is like all nonsense. If someone is waking up late, so whats in there to call them lazy. There is no point to tag them as lazy. Don't they know the meaning of lazy. I go to the school, and when I come back home, I fell really tired and I go to sleep and get up after 1 or 2 hours. And when I have a holiday, I get up late as all the days I have been studying or doing some work, so of course, I will wake up late. So, anyone who is going to say someone lazy, they should think for what reason they are telling that person lazy. And the reason should be sensible. Have a great day!

But as the discussions is going, people are really harsh in judging or tagging others. And as you have said, as if they are not thinking why a person is like that. Have a great day too and tnx for sharing your idea in this discussion.

I do not consider you as lazy at all. I am a night owl as well. I have never been the type who likes to get up early in the morning. I hate when people call me lazy. I married someone who loves to sleep in late. Unfortunately, this week he does not get to sleep in late because his boss is on vacation and my husbnad has to fill in. He hates it and hates the woman who is on with him this week because she tells my husband what to do and yet my husband has more experience than she does.

Hello night owl! Here in our country, we call that lady a fly who happens to land at the head of the carabao then acts and consider itself as if larger than the carabao. He he he I fell happy and energized reading responses from night owls like me. Tnx

Universally the morning is taken as the time when the work starts. People have got used to it, ignoring the fact that it is not important for one to start doing things right in the morning. Yes, just like you my whole family had to hear that they were doing it all wrong. But we simply do not care. We are all night-owls.

We night owls have an advantage. We can start work at night time till noon the next day then sleep or just even a nap then we can work again. I think they all got it wrong, they are the lazy ones.

Don't sweat over it, donclaudio, as long as you know the claims are not true. Your relatives must be elderly people, who have this concept about "early bird gets the worms." In the olden days, people woke up early to tend to their farms, but that's in the olden days! I really don't see any relations between waking up late and poor productivity.

That's it my friend. Today. . . early birds will not get worms already. We night owls have them all. He he he he

I am also a night owl! I feel my best at night when it's all quiet in my house. I often get so much done at night. However, i don't get too sleep in too late because I have a 3 (almost 4) year old, so he wakes me up. I guess I forfeit sleep sometimes so that I can have "me" quality time, and get things done too! Sometimes, if I was up late and my son has woke me early, then I'll take a nap with him. I wouldn't consider myself lazy because of staying up late because I do take care of my house and child. Besides, if you are working a job that requires you to work nights, then obviously you are going to sleep during the day, or sleep in. Don't let them bother you!

I remember my children when they are still babies. Being a night owl, I usually takes care of them during night time, thus my wife tells me that she was lucky having me. The experience caring my little kids gave me a happy memories that I still cherries up to now that they are grown-up already. I'm not bothered anymore. Tnx

Hmmm... Do not bother about them. If you are not an early bird, people tend to call you lazy. Try getting up a little early - it will make you fit and your body mechanisms proper. That is the reason behind waking up early. Well, if you can work through the night, then I think night shift is the best for you and you have to carry on with the way life is going!

tnx kar295rock, those are my past that inspired and make me strive harder in life. I realize later that they judge because they are looking outwardly because they are what you called self righteous persons. They are not looking at the mirror that failed them to discover that their faces are full of dirt also. By the way, I am very glad to inform you that I'm happy with my life and contented at present but still having a hard time waking up early.
