A shop assistant was looking out of the window

I was walking along the road and I thought it would be nice to get a new dustpan and brush. The shop assistant was standing by the door looking out of the window. He let a customer out so I wondered if the shop was about to be closed. The shop assistant told me he was watching a lady get a parking fine. She had been to the nail salon but whilst in there she had packed on double yellow lines. The shop assistant laughed and said the lady had been nailed. He remarked £20 for the nails and £30 for the parking fine was an expensive afternoon out.
What do you think of someone parking a car where it isn't allowed?
What do you think of the attitude of the shop assistant?

i think they should be responsible on where they're parking their car. As for the shop assistant it's always a human's attitude to laugh inwardly as we see another get in fault.

D'uh you park on double yellows, you have to expect a ticket, and to be honest I would probably have laughed a little too.

As long as he didn't laugh to her face, I guess it was all right
. He probably thought it was somewhat funny. I don't know what I would think about a person parking somewhere where they shouldn't
. You would think they would know they would get in trouble
. She surely did have an expensive afternoon out! I bet it wasn't funny to her, though. Kathy.

I wouldn't say I blame the shop assistant for just watching it all happen. I may have done the same thing if I were in her shoes. Sometimes it takes a while for me to realize what I should have done, which was to warn the lady of the possible ticket for the incorrect parking. But, you must admit that the reference of getting nailed is quite funny.

The lady really should've watched where she parked. It was only fair she got a parking ticket. But the shop assistant wasn't being fair for laughing at her. You don't laugh at people's mistakes. They're not a joke, and he probably would've felt bad if her were in her situation.

I think the lady was absolutely wrong in breaking the rules...
And the attitude of the shop assistent wasn't praiseworthy either. The lady made a mistake and this fellow enjoyed the whole show, while she got fined and all and then made such a comment... Just my opinion! Have fun!

Hi max, usually there's valid a reason for restricted parking, and orten it's just the driver is lazy, or running late that makes them park illegally. As for the shop assistant's attitude, that's probably the same as mine would be. People who park illegally think they're above the law, and as we say in Thai, "som nom nah." In my opinion, a great expression meaning, 'serves them right.'

Hi Max,
I think that shop assistant was very mean to be so gleeful in soneone else's bad day, he should have warned her in the fist place that she was parking in the wrong place, that is so bad, and I would have told him so.

Hey maxi! I think that the lady got what she deserved! If she
parked where she knew she shouldn't have then she deserved to
get the ticket! If it was that important for her to get her
nails done then she should have looked around some more for
a legal parking space! Since she decided she was above the law
she deserved to get the ticket! I have no sympathy for her!
And I think that the store assistant was right! You do something
wrong, you pay! It wasn't like she was performing a life altering
change, she was getting her nails done!

Hi maxine,
It seems there are two culprits in your story. The lady shouldn´t have parked her car where she shouldn´t and the shop assistant should mind his job instead of laughing at someone else´s problems. The lady wasn´t doing what she should but he wasn´t either. To say tje least, he was not kind at all.
Take care!

dear maxim,
since i was young, my mother had instilled in my mind the golden rule: do not do unto others what you dont want to be done unto you.
i see people who get the misfortune of being laughed at due to little mistakes but which laughing, i know, embarrasses them. like accidentally sliding on a paved floor, or falling from an escalator, or yes! being fined for parking at the wrong place.. etc. what is there to laugh at? the person got hurt. why hurt him some more by embarrassing him with your laughter?
we have to be more sensitive to other people when it comes to misfortune. i guess the shop assistant was cruel and unkind.
have a nice day.

Firstly the lady should not have parked her car on double yellows, that's the law so i'm glad she got a ticket.
Like many people here I am of the attitude that the shop assistant should not have been laughing, he should have been inside the shop doing his job and not commenting on the misbehaviours of others.

maximax8,
Frankly, for the car owner, he/she deserves it. I mean he/she would have known not to park in non permissible or spaces that are meant for the handicapped. Don't be surprised. It is a fact and I just do not have any sympathy for such people. I am sure no parking areas or spaces meant for the handicapped are there for a purpose, where one of them is that it will not disrupt traffic flow or inconvenienced road users or the handicapped.
As for the shop assistant, I am not going to be some moral judge but feel that he might just have the same sentiments as me. I just do not see if he could have helped this errant car owner especially when he cannot know where this person might be in the first place. Besides, his work is not about taking care of errant car owners especially when they are not in his shop.

People who park where it isn't allowed are often too lazy and self-centred to be considerate of others who they deserve to be laughed at when they get caught and fined.
Bad parking is not only inconsiderate but often dangerous too. I get sick of having to step into the road because some idle moron has parked on the pavement because they won't walk a few yards from a legitimate parking space.
There is a mother and toddler group near here that uses up all the spaces on the church car park and then parks on the pavement and blocks people's drives even though there is a FREE car park less than 100 yds away. They'd be the first to complain if their kid got hurt due to someone else's bad parking but are happy to do it themselves - all part of the "it's all about me" attitude these days.
