I figure every time I loan someone money I might not get it back. The key is not to loan money you can't afford to lose. Also, don't loan money that will cause you to become ugly towards a valued person in your life. No amount of money is worth that.

I don't loan anyone money for that very reason. I especially would never loan money to family. If you loan to family and they don't pay you back then that causes bad blood. I think even people with the best intentions of paying you back will not always do it. Or they will take forever to come up with the money.

Been there, done that, more than on one occasion. If I know it is something they need or it is important, I will and I hear, I will pay you back... Doesn't happen or it takes a very long time and lots of reminders(which I don't do often, it causes to much stress on everyone).
When I do this I make sure I can afford to loose that amount of money. Mind you it isn't to someone that I don't know to well. No that wouldn't happen. Family/good Friends I have. Some have paid me back, most have not.
I am told I am to nice, thing is, someday I may need help and I have alot of open doors to seek help from. Again that may not happen either.
It is just the way I am, if it is a need because of an emergency or what have you, I will most likely help with what I can afford to loose.

Definitely i won't loan my money to someone that i knew he / she can't pay me back! Actually, it's never happened to me since it's really hard for me to loan someone money even though they said they can pay me back...I'm really particular when it comes about money...
