Fasting is prescribed in many religions including major religions like Islam, Christianity and is emphasized a lot in the Holy books. Fasting is very good for health. You remain hungry for sometime but in long run it is very beneficial for the health. It gives rest to the stomach and digestion process, moreover it has other benefits too. The thing is when God has ordered or prescribed fasting, He knows better it is good for us so we should fast and do it wholeheartedly.

Me, I don't fast on religious day. Reason being is that I don't need a particular day to fast because every 3rd or 4th day in my goes as a fast. I live a bachelor life and most of the time I had to cook for me alone. Cooking is a boring job and even if I feel hungry, I am so lazy that I don't want to do cooking and I prefer being hungry. Strange, isn't ti?

I should be fasting now but I've never done so..except for certain times where I got up very late and not feeling hungry at all until night falls....I think it's okay to fasting as long as we want it..it's not a very good thing if we do it because we are forced to do it..

I too fast sometimes, according to Ayurveda fasting once in a week is good for health. Our stomach will take rest. It keep stomach clean and healthy. If stomach is healthy all other organs will be healthy. I hope that is why all the holy books says fast and pray not for the sake of god for the sake of health point of view.

Fasting doesn't really mean skipping a meal for a day. It is just simply staying away from foods or things that gives you so much pleasure. If you're a meat lover, you can prepare veggies for your meal instead of eating pork, beef or chicken, in that way you practice "fasting" without causing any hazzard to your health. Anyways, skipping a meal for a day is considered "abstinence" by the catholics where in a person would completely stay away from foods/things that indulge him/her. So, the catholic church only encourages children to do fasting and adults to do abstinence.

hie siliguri, when we take due care on fasting, it brings benefits. when we prepare to fast, we are cleaning up our body so to speak. when someone is on medication like diabetes, do check with the doctor on fasting. there are physical symptoms we experience when we begin fasting. i only fast on liquid. i experienced headache and tiredness. these could be signs that my fasting is overdue.i dont allow discomfort to deter me. in my case, after 2 or 3 days the unpleasant physical reactions went away or subsided. in my early stage of fasting i tend to feel hungry at normal mealtimes. so normally i reach out for a cup of water or juices.i take vegetables and soup.i break my fast gently and gradually. eat lightly after breaking fast. eating too heavily after fasting can produce physical discomfort. your stomachs shrink after fasting. do not over expand our stomach with eating too much. we can train our stomachs to get used to my eating.

Well i tried once, but after few hours, i started feeling fainting and went sick. So I prefer its not healthy. Skipping the meals is making the health worser and we cannot concentrate on our works without eating.

I like fasting since it gives me a sense of renewing my strength and stamina after fast. It is Lent season now me and my wife is undergoing 5days of fasting til Good Friday. Although it is difficult within 3days time, following days will be okay and adjusted. We made fasting not only for food but spiritually we are fasting, cleansing our mind ,thoughts from any bad remarks or words, we hear or say to any one.It is a purification of soul and spirit from any pollutants coming from people who has no good motives in life. With fasting and prayer, We are more likely be under the protection of our God the Almighty.

I never fast. I do not believe in such austerity measures, which might affect our health. How does it help, besides, saving expenses on food? They say fasting helps in giving stomach some rest, but isn't sleep enough for such type of rest? Our body has a clock like function. At a fixed time, we feel hungry because the enzymes come to gnaw at our stomach wall in search of food. If they do not find food to digest, they would simply eat into our stomach walls and this may cause ulcer. That is the reason why I do not fast.
