I think the real key is participation. You need to write articles, make a lot of friends, read their articles, and hope they come and read yours on Gather. There are no easy ways to make money on there anymore. They have tightened up with the economic downturn. One thing that has been suggested to me (not sure if it's true or not) is that you get more points for videos and photos than articles. Good luck with earning over there. I love the site, but haven't been able to spend much time over there lately.

The site is not like mylot, no. Mylot, for me, earns more money per month. I barely make anything anymore now that Gather has changed their point system. Used to be that I made a decent amount monthly, but now that things have changed I really struggle to make anything at all. Where mylot pays for comments and co-mingling with people, Gather pays mostly for views. You get Gather points for page views (there's an algorithm, so no set amount) and the more page views your articles get the more you stand to make. It takes a lot of views to make enough points, though, and commenting and viewing articles don't make nearly the same amount of points as getting views on your articles. There are still people that do make decent money on Gather. It's a matter of knowing what to write about that will attract views or not. Myself, I usually don't like to write about things I'm not interested in, but I need to in order to earn anything over there, so I'm not always as active there as I should be.

I've earned several gift cards from Gather. Borders, target, amazon. They have more choices and paypal too, but that is what I cashed out for. To me gather is BETTER than mylot, because I put the same amount of effort there as I do here, but I've actually EARNED things there, and I've not earned enough for a single payout here.
