Pinoys And Their Cellphones

Philippines
April 3, 2010 10:42pm CST
Hi fellow Pinoys. I just wanted to ask you this question plus a bit more... How many cellphones do you have? Can you separate yourself from your cellphone/s even for one day? Do you feel anxiety or disturbed when you don't receive even one text messages for one day? How do you think cellphone and texting affects the Pinoys? For these questions, these are my answers: I have two cellphones and yes, I admit I feel disappointment when I don't get any messages the whole day, but I don't feel disturbed. A day without a cellphone? I don't think so. I rely on my cellphone for my work schedule and business and it's a part of my daily life. Cellphone affecting lives? Quite a lot because nowadays, it seemed that almost everybody has a cellphone even the kindergartens. The effect of that is the way children are misspelling words and writing them the way they text in their cellphones which I think is a concern for their English teachers. Teens have no self-control in owning a cellphone. They tend to save their allowances, even skipping meals, just to buy the latest and most expensive cellphones. Some people steal from others just to have one. The way people use cellphones while driving is one of the causes of accidents. These are just some...Feel free to add more...:)

Pinoys are really addicted to cellphones. You will rarely see a Pinoy who doesn't have one. Philippines has been called the "text capital of the world". For only one peso, you will be able to send a message to other person, plus promos such as unlimited texting for a particular period of time. We found it cheap but with volume of messages and if we will get addicted to it, it will become an expenses. You will buy load weekly or monthly. There are really people whom we can called as text addicts, where the amount of loads they are expending are really a big expenses already. For some people, they are getting bored if they are not receiving messages, that's why they keep on sending messages so that they can also receive. As of now, I have two active cellphones, one with globe sim and the other one for smart. I'm not really addicted in texting as I only send messages to my family, officemates, and loveones. Have a nice day! Happy myLotting!

Yes, we are really the most addicted in cellphones. People with more than one cellphone are getting common nowadays. Most people who are addicted in cellphones specially in texting are students. Yes, I have also seen people like that, texting without looking and typing words almost the same speed as talking. Lol! those are really addicts. There are also some who will even prefer to buy their extra money for cellphone loads than for other things or even for food. Hahaha! Nothing can really beat Pinoys.

We really are such a unique people, huh? I have read somewhere that even half asleep, a kid can really text without looking and what a skill! No wonder some are called cellphone addicts. :)

yeah, the Philippines has been dubbed the "text capital of the world" because it is here where you can almost find almost everyone, even the youngsters, have cellphones and not only one I might add. Some used to have cellphones for each existing network. So far, there are 3 competitive networks here (smart, globe, and sun), each with different promos and rates and with the usual one-peso rate you can text your family and friends. Some have been called addicts. Many have calluses on their thumbs due to texting. I had a classmate in college who can really text without looking at the keypads and at a fast rate. I can say that she's really one of those cellphone addicts because she spends about 500 php for only 3 days! That was way back when there are no unlimited texting/call promos and there were only 2 networks.

Right now i have 3 cellphones, i didn't buy them though, they used to be my brother's, he's the one who's so addicted to buying cellphones, he buys everytime some new phone comes up with some new feature that he likes. I like using all 3 because that way i have 3 numbers, one is for my family and friends, one's for my online business contacts, and the other one is for work. On the weekends, I only have one phone with me, and that's the phone that I have my friends and family's numbers on. With the 3 phones i use, i know who's sending me text messages, or calling me. I like to be organized.

I like the way you organized your contacts through different cellphones. In that way, you have an idea who is contacting you. I applaud your idea...Like you, only i have 2 phones, i use one for business and the other one for my family and friends. In that way, it is more organized and a lot of helpful to me.

I have only 1 cellphone for personal use but for business I have 3 because we are into the e-loading business. I think cellphones really affect our lives and yes, I feel disappointed when I don't get messages in a day.My cellphone is already a part of my life. I always place my cellphone on the bedside table and its the first thing I check when I wake up. When I have nothing to do, I play games that I downloaded. I feel worried when I misplaced my cellphone as if it's the most precious thing on earth.

Well, I can relate to the feeling of being worried when I misplace my cellphone, especially the one for my business...I tend to get anxious when I forgot to bring it with me in the office because I might miss something important because you see, it's my only way of communication with my family since we don't have a landline phone.

I just have one cellphone. I've been using the same sim card for over 4 years now. I can actually live a single day without a phone though it feels like a part of me is missing hehe. During work, I usually leave it in the locker, so I guess my phone and I are not really best of friends ^.^ Just close hehe.

I have two cell phones. When i bought a new one, i have not discarded the old one because i used another SIM card for it. Yes, cellphones are indeed necessary as means of communication, nowadays. It can really be difficult when I have no cell phone and I have to meet someone at a certain place in a given time. However, I am proud to say that i can live a day or days without cell phone. I am not a cell phone addict like most. Hehehe. As long as there are other ways of communication like the telephone landline, which could be used as a tool in communicating with other people, then it is okay for me not to have a cell phone.

That's the downside of having a cellphone. I think so too that cell phones are addicting. I only have one cellphone. I also feel disappointment whenever I don't get messages for a whole day, just like you. But I am not addicted to it. I could go on a day without it. Actually, my cellphone is broken right now, I don't feel like I have to have it repaired as soon as possible.

Well, my mobile for me is not only for calls and texts but I use it as my music player, my camera for good pictures and I even use it to browse the web. It's my wallet sometime because I use it for purchases sometimes. It's a general purpose gadget for me. Well, I'm not really fond of texting and calls, I am even thankful sometime if no one bothers me browsing the web. If someone calls me or sends me an sms then my opera mini browser lags and gets disconnected. I hate it when it happens.

Cellphones are already a necessity nowadays. But the thing is we should use it at the right place, at the right time and for the right reason. Like any other thing, too much is bad. We should not overindulge in it. Let's just be wise and smart in dealing with all our needs and wants. To answer your questions, I have two phones and it's not a big deal for me if I don't receive any message for one day. There are times when I don't bring my phone, like going to church. I think that I can live a day without cellphone (what I can't live without in a day is food..hehe). And yes, cellphones are affecting our lives and as our society as a whole already. I think instant messaging and calling are the now the basic forms of communication. It's so practical and convenient.

I have one cellphone, it's a dual-sim phone though. All the answers to your questions really depends on whether I have a boyfriend or not. I can live without a phone, that is if I don't have a boyfriend. But I do, and we don't live in the same city. We are far from each other, that's why we keep our phones close so that we could keep on texting and calling each other. If he doesn't text, then i'll get mad, but if I don't have a bf and nobody texts then it's okay. Having cellphones has become a necessity to all people, the poor, the middle class, and the rich people. We keep cellphones for easy communication, that's why many pinoys use them a lot.

i used to have 2 because i liked the idea of receiving messages from either network and having some sort of fall back when one of the phones ends up having no prepaid load. however, me being a one-phone person, i find it hard to manage and i hate selling my stuff, i just gave it to my mom with the assurance that she won't sell or give it to my brother :) i find it disappointing if there are no messages the whole day, but it's not disturbing. i find my cellphone an essential because me, my family, and friends are kind of far from each other and it is the best way to keep in touch. it's easy enough to say that i can't return their messages because i don't have any prepaid credits anyway. it's effect in my personal opinion are both positive and negative, one of the positive effect is for keeping in touch. fraudulent activities are considered negative plus it keeps the youngsters more exposed to subjects that they should not be thinking about yet
