I can't stand it when people get their spellings of words confused. I go nuts when the words A and LOT are merged (alot), and I can't stand it when there, their, they're, your and you're are used incorrectly. Does anyone else have this pet peeve? Just wondering...

I think to be fair, a lot (there i corrected that) of people here do mix up their English. Probably because most of us here are really not native English speakers. It's an international community and grammatical errors are easily ignored because that't the way it is in MyLot.People come here for the discussions and not really the perfect grammar. I see your new. But you'll soon find out when you've met new friends from other cultures that grammar becomes a non-issue if you genuinely just want to discuss something. Also, although its nice to correct people's grammar (that only shows you are really concerned for our learning process)it's against the rules to berate them for it. Don't worry, if you'll look closely a lot of Mylotters not from English speaking countries admit that their English got better because of participating in MyLot. Of course it does take time to get all the rules right for some (including me). Enjoy Mylotting.

I actually wasn't referring to people on myLot! :) I guess I should have been more specific. I just mean that it bugs me in general. I'm a grade 7/8 teacher, so I'm a stickler on grammar I guess because I have to be. :) I have also taught ESL for over 5 years so I am totally sensitive to the non-native English speakers, don't worry! Really, no offense intended toward myLot users! I actually haven't had much of an opportunity to read many posts as of yet. :)

I know EXACTLY what you mean! I was just telling my husband that I'm on here trying to respond to discussions, and all I want to do is correct them. Some of these people aren't even making sense. It makes me want to rip my hair out. I majored in English in high school. Maybe that's why. And I'm not saying that I have absolute perfect grammer, but come on! It also drives me nuts when people use double negatives. "I don't got no..." I hear people in my family do it all the time. I am constantly correcting my niece and nephew. I tell them that it is not to be annoying. It is just so that they can go to a job interview and not sound ignorant. Glad I'm not the only one!

LOL.... My husband says, "I seen this, I seen that..." and, "Yous guys..." ALLL the time. But I don't bug him for it because his first language is Italian, as is his mother's of course, and he picked up his grammar habits from her. :) We have a 5 month old son. I am just so thankful that toddlers learn how to speak from the mother! ;)

I'm slightly OCD about a lot of things, spelling and grammar included, so yes, this does peeve me greatly. Although, I am guilty of using 'untill'. sadly. :(
