I am so excited that my wedding day is fast approaching. Everything is set, from invitation to itsy bitsy details that are needed. At the same time, I also do my diet and few sit-ups to somehow look good in the pictures. What's bothering me now is that my wedding dress already done two months ago. Now, here in my country, we have this belief that its bad luck to wear your wedding dress/gown before your wedding. My problem is, how will I know if my dress still fits me? Is it really bad luck?

To wear a wedding dress before marriage it;s a good luck in our culture. Please don't worry about good or bad luck, just wear and see it in front of mirror. best wishes for your marriage.

Yes in our culture too. Really, its tempting to try it on, but my mother is stopping me, so I only let it wear to my sister, to see how it looks. But I'm still not contented.

My folks are uberly religious in Catholic faith. But I don't think this silly belief is from the religion, its from the tradition.. My family is quite modern somehow, but I guess I have nothing to lose if I'll just follow the tradition.

Well, I don't believe in that superstitious belief because I've proven that so untrue (sorry to those who believe it). I wore my gown 3 times before my wedding day since it did not fit me right so, the tailor needed to adjust its cut and design he he....I had the most wonderful & unforgettable wedding then!

Wow! Congratulations eloveriz2004! I wish I have the same happy wedding too on my BIG Day. I am really tempted to wear my wedding dress now, but my family is stopping me. My Mama said, we'll just have to buy lots of safety pins in case the dress won't fit.

Ha ha! If following the old tradition would please your mama, it's alright, just do what she says. Good luck on your wedding, may the Lord bless you a happy home with beautiful kids!

Hi, Congrats for your upcoming marriage and it is good to know that you have done wedding dresses already. In our place there are no such beliefs and people do wear the dress just before the marriage day to find out the dresses is fit or not. There is nothing bad on it. If we wear the dress for any other purpose or function then it may not be good but for checking the measurement it is absolutely alright. If you are a strong believer in this superstition then I won’t suggest you to wear it before wedding. Our mind and believes has its own role in our life and don’t go against your mind. Instead try some other alternatives like measuring the size of the dress and compare it with the dress which fits for you. Wish you a happy and prosperous marriage Life.

Thank you Sreekala! Ah yes! The Law of Attraction... Well, I don't really believe in such. Its my family who strongly practice this kind of belief. So if they think this way, some elements in this world will attract bad luck. So I better of just follow their beliefs.

Well, I have heard about this. In fact it is a common belief in our place to. But, in my case, I really do not believe on such. If you are meant to be, then you are. If not, then it is obvious that even if you have the perfect wedding, you may not be the perfect pair and sooner or later the marriage will not go long. I wish you luck and may you have a great wedding as well as a great family.

Thank you jpso138! Yes, destiny plays a little role. But destiny is really up to you. Its not the dress that decides.

I dont think it is. I wore my wedding dress many times before the wedding cause I thought I gained weight so I need to try it on many times so I will know if I still fit. I dont think its ever true that your wedding will not pursue if you try your dress on. Movie stars wore a lot of wedding dresses and they said its going to be bad lick when they marry but I dont think so too cause they have been married many times in their lives. I dont know where people got this superstitious belief.

Ah now I got it! They're bad luck in marriage!! Just kidding! Well, i guess it really depends on how you believe, and how hard you pray, and how people influence you. My family just love me so much that they don't want anything bad will happen to me. That is why as shallow as these, they'll believe even if its not really true. Well, that's just me.

Well I don't know how to connect a wedding dress to the bad luck part, but hey! what have you got to lose? I say don't risk it. You don't have to wear your gown until your wedding day, especially if you're sure the person who fit the gown knows what they're doing. But then if you're going to risk looking like some part of you is hanging off when it shouldn't be, then go try the gown on. LOL.. Whatever happens, You're still getting married, so I wish the both of you the best of luck!

thanks apoljuice1! Yeah I know right? I also don't get the connection of wearing the dress to the chance/circumstance. What I am doing right now is I monitor my measurements and my dress' measurements. And if the won't fit me, then I'll have to bring more safety pins, just in case.

When I've read the question I thought - where you wanna go with your wedding dress before the wedding? :lol I don't believe in such bad predictions. Of course you have to measure your dress and to feel comfortable in it in the Big day. I wish you a happy marriage life.

lol!!! I read my question again, yeah it also mean I'll wear my dress somewhere else.. haha!! Anyway, I don't believe in those beliefs too, since we're in the modern world. But my mother is stopping me to try it on. That it may bring bad luck or something. So I have no choice but to listen. What I'm doing right now is I monitor the measurements of my body and the dress. Quite hassle but its the next best thing.

Good day! Fitting your wedding dress not on your wedding day brings bad luck, according to the beliefs of our ancestors...It is believed that your wedding will not push through once you did that..It is true that you wouldn't lose anything if you obey this. But what if your wedding dress doesn't fit to you anymore?! That will be your biggest problem on your wedding day. Since it is your wedding, you are the one to decide. Just listen to yourself so that if anything happens, you wouldn't have to blame anybody. Just pray that good things will happen on your wedding day.. Have a wonderful married life ahead of you! Cheers!

Thank you cecilarceo! Yes, prayer is the most important thing. It can move mountains than the luck that wearing your wedding dress before your wedding. If only me to decide, I've already worn that dress a long time ago, its my family who is stopping me. They say it will bring bad luck or the wedding will not push through. And I don't get the relation of wearing the dress to the circumstance/chance? I think the only time that a wedding won't push through is neither of the bride or the groom will not show up.

i don't believe that it will be bad luck if you try your dress on before the wedding day. i think it would be a bad luck if you don't try your dress on and you find out that it doesn't fit right and it will be too late to have it altered.
