Isn't it always the way...

I got caught in a long traffic jam on my way to my hospital appointment today. I watched the minutes ticking away and got to the gate with just 4minutes to find a parking space and get to the correct department. By some miracle & the fact that I ran part of the way I made it with one minute to spare on their clock. I waited 20minutes and then they told me they were putting another patient in first since he'd been at the hospital for 6hours already, having various tests. Well, that's fair enough but, I'd bust a gut (not literally) to get there on time and then was seen 40mins later. This isnt a moan about waiting times... I accept that there will be delays but, if I hadn't hurried, you can bet they'd have been running to time. Sod's law

Yeah they would have been running on time and they would have given you that "horrible patient wasting our precious time" look too!

When they apologised for the delay, I did tell them I'd run from the car park to be on time. They told me never to worry about it again because they would just see someone 'out of turn' and fit me in when I got there.

My doctor's office is in a shopping mall. So last time I went to see him was about 10 yrs ago and I went in, had them take my card and then I told them to call me on my cell when it was my time. The waiting room was full and I knew id be sitting there for at least 4 hrs. I went back to my dad's to wait. I was called 6 hrs later to tell me it was my turn. Lucky dad doesnt live far. The doc was waiting for me and he seemed pissed at me......well......I gave him a piece of MY mind about having to wait that long and asked him how DARE he be angry with me. Ok so Ive known him ever since I was a kid so he knows how I am. My time is just as important as their time and I will NOT put up with this madness anymore. If more of us would rebel, they'd fix this problem. Sorry im in one of those moods today!!!

That is a ridiculously long time to wait!! I rarely wait more than 10mins at the doctors surgery. No apology needed for your opinion

Of course that would be what would happen. That would be why I either take a book or handwork, or I will read a magazine. It just happens that way a lot. It would have been worse if you had gotten a traffic ticket, though.

True... the hold up was caused by a large lorry breaking down at a major 4-way junction and the police were there to sort the traffic so I was really hoping the lights would stay green! I always take a book but, I must remember to put a new one in my bag because I almost finished the one I had today

This actually happened last week! I was taking my sister to her appointment; early, early, early in the morning :P, and went to the wrong building... So, I was on the other side of town right on time, we called the office we were supposed to be at and they told us she had to be there in 10 min. to keep her appointment. We were because by some freakish coincidence ALL of the lights were green our whole way there. We got in and waited an hour and a half...

Unfortunately, there will always be a wait because they factor in for non-attenders but dont consider that a consultation may well take longer that the alotted time slot. great that you managed to get there quickly enough to keep the appointment but, having been told that, it must've been frustrating to be kept waiting that long!

That must've been hard work - trying to amuse a baby and panicking about whether you'd make the next appointment. Quite possible that you would have been higher up the list if you hadn't had the courtesy to call ahead and forewarn them about your possible late arrival but, as you say, it was basic good manners to do so. I struck lucky today - walked in, sat down, read 4 lines of my book and got called in. I was walking out of the main entrance just 15mins after my appointment time

Usually it would have been fine but we had the baby with us and another appointment that we barely made. I work in a salon so I understand how much a no-show disrupts the flow of the day. I'm wondering if we could have gotten in quicker had we not called them though... but, alas, I can't break the manners that I've had this long.
