Me and Rider-Waite don't get along.

I've been trying to get back into the Tarot but I bought the Rider-Waite deck and can't seem to get along with it, it just doesn't "speak" to me at all. I used to use the Sacred Rose deck and found that the best one for me, I wish I'd bought another set of that instead. Is there a particular deck that you love? Is there a popular deck that you just don't get along with?

When my daughter was interested in the Tarot, we bought her a book about it . That mentioned feeling right with a specific pack of cards and suggested going into a shop that sells them to get a real feel for a pack before buying . I know they are quite expensive.

I kinda get you about the difficulties of Rider-Waite. Initially, they freaked me out then after about 2 years of reading, the images of RW remain imprinted in my mind, making my own deck easy to interpret. This might explain why it's the most basic deck for a beginner. It was created so that its images would be easily remembered. In my case, it took me a while. I use the Tarot of the Thousand and One Nights. Obviously, it's bases on the Arabian Nights. A friend bought it for me as a gift. They were shown to me online at first and they just popped right out of the screen. Another friend uses the Osho-Zen deck. It's a lot different that the tradition tarot. The concepts that they represent are supposed to be similar, but they appear to be too vague to me to the point of kinda fearing them.

Well, that just goes to show! I looked at both the decks you mentioned and much preferred the Osho-Zen deck, to the point where I am now considering it as a purchase! Thank you for your post.

You missed! I'm female. I think I like the imagery of the Osho Zen because it is more colourful and very well presented. The 1,001 Nights deck was a bit too subtle for me, the colour palette was very soft. It's a nice deck but it didn't do anything for me.

Taking a stab at guessing your gender, it kinda makes sense...Thousand and One Nights is so feminine while the Osho-Zen is very masculine and often straight to the point. I'm glad I made some sort of influence in your tarot reading life! :)

There is an herbal one that speaks to me, although it's hiding right now. Tried the round Mother Earth one, too ackward for me. My friend adores it, but it just drives me crazy. I'd like to try the Shape Shifter one. A couple that are like Tarot, but not quite the same vane that I like are the Animal Medicine Cards and the Sacred Path Cards that my friends have. I should have bought the Sacred Path one, maybe I would have found the right job for me by now and be happy. I haven't seen the Sacred Rose deck, what is it like?

Some images from the deck here:- http://www.solari-uk.co.uk/images/2t-sacred.jpg http://ladyluna.ru/images/runes/sacredrosecards%2018.gif As you can see they are quite bold and colourful and I know they aren't to everyone's taste but I found them very easy to work with.

I've known a few people who are very happy with Crowley's deck - I guess it helps he knew what he was doing when he designed it and the artwork is very beautiful. I've never had the kind of success I had with Sacred Rose with any other deck but a lot of other people don't get on with it. I dunno, maybe I just like the colours!

as you well know.. every deck and every person varries. getting another rose deck may not work as well as the one you had before.. as the other one was intune with you.. if that makes sense? im hoping one day i will find a deck that i can work with on a more regular consistant basis, itd be easier on the brains .

I use a herbal one and also the gypsy witch version. Both are nice and have different aspects that I like. It is a great way to get to know people both men and women and great at parties to stir things up alittle. I have not found a deck that I don't get along with. I like the gypsy witch one best.

Personally, I like the Tarot Revelations deck. It shows both the upright and Reversed positions. However, I'm happy with the one I am currently using, which is, "The New Mythic Tarot." This one has beautiful illustrations. Great for giving readings.

Taking my clothes off wouldn't be much of a reward for anybody.

It makes for the best strip-poker game. Get the Devil card and you have to take all your clothes off.

I really like the Universal Rider-Waite deck, it is so much clearer, everything from the picture itself to being able to read with them!
