If you've read all the way through, how long did it take you? How many chapters a day did you read and which books did you skim over? You know, speed read your way through. It took me one year and it was worth it. Have you read it all the way through and how did it help you?

I'm sure you're not the only one. Have you ever tried reading the version called The Message? I know a lot of people don't like it but the language really bring the Bible alive. Who knows, if it perks someone's interest in reading the Bible, I say it's a good thing.

Every night before I sleep I used to read Bible, about 1 chapter every night and taking down some notes or my reflection. One of my favorite is Esther and I love how she really made a contribution to his fellow men and women.

It's an interesting habit. Everybody should read the Bible everyday and take note of all important reflections we get reading through.

Yes,I have a few times..There are programs where you can read the whole Bible in a year. Here is one, though what I had came through ministries I support, but I am sure any would work.. http://bible.christianity.com/readingplan/?OVRAW=reading%20through%20the%20bible%20in%20one%20year&OVKEY=reading%20through%20the%20bible%20in%20one%20year&OVMTC=standard&OVADID=8355686521&OVKWID=95613616021&OVCAMPGID=2311525021&OVADGRPID=4158532409&OVNDID=ND2 As for how did it help me? I got to read things I never heard before, (which is why we need to read for ourselves, seems leaders and teachers don't want you to know some truths in the Bible..)and I read things I had forgotten about and was refreshed in a new way..:)

Even at my age I find things that I do not recall reading before. I know I must have read them, but at the time they did not pertain to me. When I read them again, it was in a time I needed to.

Or even if one has read a passage over and over again, it isn't until the Holy Spirit reveals it that it it can have a whole new meaning..It's awesome, and proof to me that the Word is alive...:)

yes i read the bible but not all the chapter., i have not yet finish to read it., but what is important to me is the actions or application as what the bible said. and when i read the book of revelation, it all stated their the second coming of Christ., the tribulation, it was very trembling and horrified things that could be happen to us who do not believed in Him.,and it was a challenge to me., to start make a treasure in heaven., to make for our salvation., God Bless

OH my, Revelations hey? It's not so scary though, if you've read the other books before it. I would recommend the Psalms . . . very encouraging.

Honestly, I just read the bible when I was in college. I've been with a catholic school on those times! LOL. We have to bring every day our Bible to learn, but unfortunately, I didn't get serious about it. Instead, I just read it whenever we have quizzes on it. I'm quite ashamed of that...

Aww, don't be ashamed of that. At least you got to read it. Somehow it can only benefit you. Hopefully you'll get a chance to read God's Word again . . . and this time because you choose to.

I've only read through the bible once and that was like 10 yrs ago. It was fun reading it and at that time, I have learned a few and some of which had stick to my mind. I even loved reading the footnotes on the bible and it was good to know some facts and discrepancies with regards to geography and timeline. But the best thing about reading the bible is you get a little bit of guidelines on how to live life fully. I used to write my favorite proverbs as well taken from the bible. That was a long time ago and I'm planning to read the Bible all over again.

Most awesome. I like Proverbs myself. It has such good wisdom to live by. Let me know how long it will take you to read through it again. It took me a year.

I've read through it several times, but I don't know how long it took me. I didn't do it as a "have to" but because I wanted to. The books I skimmed... Leviticus, Deuteronomy. All those laws and "thou shalts" make my brain quit working. I can take a few at a time, but not to read through all of them. Sometimes I would read only a part of a chapter, and other times, several chapters at a time. It just depended on how interesting it was (or how awake I was).

I have been a Christian for most of my 50 odd years on this planet. I have read most of the Bible over that period of time but have never read it through from cover to cover. My nephew found a way to "power read" the Bible that I thought was a good idea. He uses a Bible tape or CD program where the Bible is read and he takes out that version of his Bible and reads along with the recording. He finds that this is easier to read through this way. I have found it interesting when I talk to many people who have read through the Bible. They don't seem to remember the details of a story or part of the writings. There are so many rich things in the Bible. Many times the Old Testament makes people yawn, especially the books of the law and genealogies. I learned to approach these books from a detectives point of view and find them fun to read because I see depth in them. Of late I have been interested in the sacrifices in the Old Testament. Each one of those sacrifices tells a story of Jesus. It is a wonderful thing to understand. Many people get hung up on the epistles of Paul. I also enjoy those writings and have read them from probably at least three religious points of view over the years. Every time I pick up the Bible, it is like a gourmet meal set before me. It's good from the appetizers (Psalms and Proverbs) to the main meal (New Testament), to the sweets and after-dinner drink (the Old Testament and how it pictures Jesus). It's a great meal and totally satisfying when taken in balance.

Yeah I have, but that was a long time ago, I was still in my teens then. I plan to re-read it all over again. I know that reading is more than just reading when it comes to the Bible. It is important that I also understand, and meditate on the verses that I read. My spiritual growth became stagnant for a few years, and it's only a few months ago that I decided to come back to the faith, correct my mistakes, and live a prayerful life again, just like how I used to.

Right on, my friend. Those are wonderful words to hear. And yeah, it's not about just reading, it is meditating on His Word and, of course, understanding and applying it is also vital. I know, because you are willing, your Christ-like life will be powerful.

Yeah, I read the bible and it took a year. It was quite fun because I followed a one-year bible reading plan. so every day, there was a portion of the old testament and a portion of the new testament to be read. I had to be really disciplined because if for some reason, I missed a day, I made sure to catch up. There is a nice bible reading plan on the biblegateway website.

Once I read the whole Bible and it took me roughly one year reading between three and five chapters daily. I really enjoyed it, but I also recognize that some chapters like the Chronics are quite difficult to read. But other ones I really enjoyed like proverbs, Jesus' life in Mathews, Mark, Luke or John. A few weeks ago I started to read the Bible again as every time I open it to read any part, even if I already read it before, I learn something new. It's simply one of my favorite books and I would like to recommend to everybody to read it.

I have read the Bible all the way through once. I think it took me a period of six months. And I just wanted to see if I could get through the feat. Most of what I did was speed read, and I can't remember just how many chapters a day that I did, but it always seemed overwhelming when I was reading through it. Too much info for me to sort through.

I have in the past read all the way through, but it has been a long time. It did not hurt that in my two years at a Christian college I took every Bible class they offered. A famous quote I once read said "Give me a Bible and a light to read it by, in a locked room, and I can tell you everything that is going on in the world." I know that is not an exact quote, and it is one I heard in High School. The point is that the truths in the Bible are practical, even for someone who does not believe. I do believe in the whole message of the Bible, so it is even more applicable for me. Now to be humorous, once I was learning a new bus route and got stuck in the mud. While I waited for another bus to come get me, I memorized the "begats" in Matthew, NIV. I was the Bible quiz coach and thought I should at least try because the kids often did.

Hi gtargirl,I was forced to not only read, but memorize both the Chatholic and Protistant bibles(one church each week) when I was young, then went to war for a couple years and returned as an ignostic. After 30 or so years,I became a Witch, and this I find serves me very well. Thanks for the discussion.
