Stop Celebrating and Learn Something Instead

Origins matter, you would not eat a piece of candy you found in the sewer even if it was still wrapped, would you? Yes, conservation and looking after the planet are good things, but did you know the guy who co-founded "Earth Day" murdered his girlfriend, stuffed her body in a trunk in a closet and then fled the country? He went to Europe as a fugitive and managed to circumvent justice for 20 years. Google Ira Einhorn. this is who he killed, stop celebrating and learn something: http://cmm.lefora.com/2009/01/21/helen-holly-maddux-the-maddux-familys-long-fight-f/ learn about how he evaded justice for his horrible crime for 2 decades: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ira_Einhorn Conservation has been around for generations, and is based in sanity and common sense, forget the holiday of hypocrisy that was founded by a murderer and instead practice conservation EVERY DAY!

You tell em, Kitty! I kinda blasted those that were asking if I WAS CELEBRATING "Earth Day", or what was I DOING on Earth Day? Like, screw off people. I conserve EVERY DAY here on the farm. So what, you 'townies' are going to do it for one hour or one day. So, lucky you, you will get a taste of the meagre way us farmers live EVERY DAY!

You tell em, Annie! I'm with you. I'm not a farmer, well, I guess you could call me one on a VERY small scale, but I conserve every day of the year, too. I kinda associate Christmas day (or any high holiday), the day when war is temporarily halted and people are supposed to be kind to one another, with Earth Day. I mean, WTF??? Why can't we all be kind 365 days a year and what the hell is this BS about stopping war for one day because it's a special day????? (Uhh, okay, I can't kill you today but I'll kill you tomorrow. ) It boggles the mind.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I did not know of the connection. I had seen how he murdered her, and evaded justice. I am with you. We need to take care of the earth every day. It is not a holiday, but a responsibility, year round.

sounds like Einhorn was a first class a**, but Wikipedia says the original found of Earth day was Senator Gaylord Nelson

I looked it up, just saying he wasn't the only founder. But I agree HE shouldn't be celebrated in any way...

Einhorn was the master of ceremonies at the first "earth day" and was widely credited with founding it before the truth of his heinous crime came to light and people wanted to distance themselves from affiliation with him for obvious reasons. Don't take my word for it, look it up, it was televised around the world, you can even watch video of it.

You know, I was just talking about this same thing yesterday (Earth Day). I mean, not about Ira Einhorn, but about practicing conservation every day instead of this BS about being conservation-savvy one day a year. I learned about Ira Einhorn a long time ago. The funny thing is, even before I heard about Earth Day (pre-internet days), I was very conservation-conscious. His being associated with this day and what it represents had no impact on the way I lived. I would love to see every human being doing all they could to keep our planet as clean and natural as possible every day of the year but that isn't going to happen. I can live with a clear conscious because I do my part 365 days a year.

I remember watching the story on Americas Most Wanted years ago. I didn't know he had anything to do with earth day though. Very interesting and it was a very sad story also about the murder of his girlfriend

WEll, he didn't found the earth so we can celebrate that! If we look into almost everything I am sure there are such terrible people associated with lots of different things. No one is celebrating Ira.. never heard of him before you pointed it out! We all still watch football and golf.. and there are imperfect people there too! (not condoning!!!)) We can't exclude everything in the world because of a bad influence somewhere or we'd have to live in a cave... with no electricity or internet!
