I love popcorn - I've been making it since I was a little kid. I had always popped it on the stove growing up until the introduction of microwave popcorn then everyone including me went to buying mocrowave popcorn I guess because it's so easy to stick it in the microwave & let it go to popping the problem is you never know if it's going to come out right. Then there's that funny after taste you get from some brands or you get burned popcorn b/c this brand cooks faster than the other brand. Well, tonight I finally got fed up w/ the microwave popcorn & decided to bust open the bag & pop it on the stove. It came out perfect! Better than any microwave popcorn you'd ever eat! Here's the instructions for everyone who's missing there "real" popcorn like I was: Bust the bag over your pot & there's a block of popcorn in a mold of butter stuff, some kernels will be loose so make sure you hold it over the pot. Go ahead & put your stove eye on about 7 1/2 (i have an electric stove) the keep the lid off & shake it until you see about 5 or 6 kernels pop. Put your lid on the pot then continue to shake the pot, when the popcorn starts to pop rapidly turn the stove eye off, continue to shake the pot until the popping slows wait until you hear only one pop then count to ten (if you hear another pop start over @ 1 counting to ten) if there are no pops take your popcorn off the stove & drop it in your bowl, shake on some salt, pepper & garlic salt or garlic powder. It will be the best popcorn you ever ate! I don't have one unpopped kernel popping on the stove & it pops much bigger. I hope y'all love it as much as I do.

Thank you for that very helpful tip. I started eating popcorn a few months ago as an aid in my quit smoking. Now I like it so much I eat it every day and wondered why the same type popcorn tuned out differently almost every time I made it in the microwave.

I am now in my 12TH week of not smoking after 54 years of being a pack a day smoker and I could not have done it without the popcorn. The stove top popping did not work out so well as I burned it. Will give it another try as I think I used too large a pot and the fat did not cover the complete bottom of the pot.

That sounds great! I will have to try that. Don't have a microwave so we pop it on the stove anyway. I like butter on mine. No salt. Not one unpopped kernel huh? That would be cool for a change. I hate it when there are so many kernels. I do like ti though when the kernels are so well toasted you can chew them as well.

I will have to remember the counting to 10. I think I did try garlic powder on my popcorn once. I also tried several others like vitamin powders and such. It is all good soaked up by the butter.

Quite interesting. I might have to consider trying this soon because it can be annoying when the popcorn burns or does not pop all the way and you have a lot of left over kernals. But personally there are so many ways you can flavor popcorn more than anything imaginable but this is a Great way to do it for sure.

Lakota12 How do you do that?? I have an electric skillet I never use. I would try popcorn if I knew how...I assume a little oil and pour in kernals after the oil is heated a bit..or can you do it w/o oil??

Interesting, although I would just go with regular kernels if I was going to make it on the stove, as that is so much cheaper than microwave popcorn. I do not have popcorn often and usually when I do we use kernels and make it on the stove and then toss it with butter afterwards. Much tastier and not as unhealthy as the extra crap put in the microwave popcorn butter.

true,a bag of kernels is much cheaper. I love stove top popcorn so much better than microwave. Happy munching

Buying the non-microwave kernels is cheaper too! I love to make popcorn on the stove adding just a little salt, turmeric and nutritional yeast for a slightly cheesy taste. Popcorn is a pretty healthy snack and I love it!
