I think aloe is great! About 10 years ago I had internal radiation for one of my cancer treatments, and I received internal radiation burns in the intestinal tract. Two different Drs wanted to perform a temporary colostomy, and I got a third opinion from a homeopathic Dr. The homeopath gave me these aloe vera pills as part of the treatment, and it provided relief after the first day. In the end, I avoided surgery and healed up on my own. Now that says something about aloe's healing power and how effective it can be in some circumstances. It coats the internal lining so that it can heal, plus provides properties that assists in healing. I always keep an aloe vera plant on hand in my kitchen. While many consider it an old timey remedy, in it's natural form is more powerful in it's properties than any of the purchased aloe creams, etc. Once my hubby touched a hot exhaust pipe by accident. I cut off a large aloe leaf and taped it to the burn (after cooling down the skin first.) Each time the aloe was absorbed I put on another leaf. The people that were visiting could not believe that he didn't blister, or that it took away the pain of a severe burn. We didn't have insurance at the time was why we didn't immediately go to the ER. I've used the aloe plant many times for burns, and it is supurb. Like I said, the purchased creams and gels aren't as great as the pure aloe. I do think that the heat of processing changes it's properties somewhat. While it's still good, it doesn't seem to measure up as well as the pure unprocessed aloe.

You're welcome picjim. The aloe (homeopathic remedy) that I keep on hand is made by Unda, and is in a tiny little pill form. The dosage is called 6ch (homeopathic medicines are measured in, I believe the word is, chains) I take 3 of the mini pills at a time, twice a day. I'm pretty sure it's sold at healthfood stores too, but maybe not under that brand name? I consider it a real blessing that I found a homeopathic Dr that could relieve the symptoms and heal it all without surgery!! I am great today (healthwise) because of it. As far as the plants themselves, I wasn't aware that there were other types. I had to do an internet search to see which kind I had (guess when I go and buy a new one I just automatically go for the kind I always use.) Turns out that the type I buy and use is called: Aloe Vera chinensis. This is what they call the 'spotted form' because there's little white spots that show on the leaves. This I believe is the most succulent of the varieties, as the leaves are more fleshy with the juice inside. There's a great picture of what I'm talking about on Wikipedia. Here's the link if you want to see what aloe vera chinensis looks like (it's down on the right side by taxonomy and etymology): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aloe_vera

Thanks for sharing your views.Your account of how Aloe helped heal internal radiation has opened my thinking towards the efficacy of Aloe vera.I'm curious as to which variety of Aloe you keep in the house to use as a remedy for your ailment. The reason being i was informed that there are several kinds of Aloe plants with only some having medicinal value.

About the only think I know for sure about aloe Vera, is that it is fat and water soluble, and it makes burns heal faster, and feel nice. My Mom, kept an aloe Vera plant in the house, all the years we was growing up, and any time someone got burned, we would break it, and apply the juice direct to the wound, felt nice and healed quick. The fat and water soluble part is very interesting, it means that more things will get absorbed into your body, when you are ingesting it. It is beneficial, though I would not consider it a stand alone product. Was this an MLM Presentation? Do tell me more if it was. With Appreciation.

Ah okay. Well be sure to apply the five pillars, seems the company has been here in north america for a couple of decades, shouldn't be too bad of an offer, and it might even be worth an investment of time and money. Do you think you can do what they did? Do they allow you to market on the internet? And is retailing promoted? With Appreciation.

Aloe vera has good healing properties to skin. About ailments in the body, I don't know exactly what it heals or diseases that it can prevent. But just be alarmed if someone has been offering a product that seems to cure all types and all kinds because we know that there is no such thing as that. Probably people are luring others to make sales but to promise heaven and earth on what the product claims, well it is all up to you. For me, do more research and ask a lot of people about it. Do they have certifications regarding health department like FDA or so, ISO certification and award certificates earned because of this great invention. Is the price just right? or did you hear people's comment that they have been cured to this and that using the product. You can ask a testimony of someone if just in case you knew one who is really taking the product, not because someone is showing you a written letter of testimony because it is too easy to manipulate. Your doctor would only say something if the product works for you and when he tested you, your health condition has improved.

Yes i agree Aloe has certain benefits on skin .I accept your view that a person has to make a deeper study before taking treatment for severe ailments.Pricing as you've rightly put also has to be taken into account. Its only after the efficacy has been proved that organisations like FDA and ISO will give their certification.Doctors are bound to say a product works when they have tested it out on patients and it works.

I like to think that one thing is or a few things are good for some things and not really good for everything. And having said that I believe that in everything, we should consume it in moderation. Too much of the good thing is actually bad. Aloe vera may have tremendous healing properties. But it's probably good to cure some ailments only. I've watched on tv how a piece of aloe vera was skinned and how the jelly-like substance it contained was directly applied to the hair. It also showed how we could prepare an aloe vera drink out of it as well. That's by far my minimal knowledge and experience with aloe vera go.

Consumption of anything in moderation including Aloe will have beneficial effects as you've rightly put it.As you say you've seen the benefit of Aloe applied to hair and I've heard it has the same effect on skin.Extract of Aloe juice from certain species of plants is thought to have health benefits.I was told that extract has to be carefully preserved as the benefits of Aloe are lost if not preserved in the natural form and that it loses its original properties if the process of preservation is faulty.

Aloe does have great healing powers. I don't know if it's a total "cure all" but I have used it for things. I don't use it too often now because I've found something that works better for me. Depending on what this "presentation" was that you went to, if they were promoting their aloe product then of course they're going to say it's the best thing out there for any problem you might have.

Hi picjim. I haven't used Aloe for a lot of things, although my boyfriend does have a nice one growing at his house. We were looking forward to it growing larger so that we can try it out for a few different things. It is my understanding that if you put it on wounds, that it will help them to heal faster. I am not sure, but I also think that I may have heard something about the aloe helping to prevent scars, or at least that the scars aren't as bad if you put aloe on a wound. I have used products containing aloe on my sunburns. I think it was usually in a gel form. When you put it on the skin, it not only cools it almost immediately, but the aloe also puts the much needed moisture back into your skin. This is especially helpful for really bad sunburns. I think that it would probably work well with burns in general, that is as long as they are not really bad burns. Then you would definitely want to check with your physician before putting anything that isn't prescribed to you on the wound.

Well, aloe vera extracts have been utilized in treating several health problems. I have heard that it does bring beneficial effects to our health. But of course, this does not mean that everything the presenter told you is correct. They often claim many things to insure that the product will be sold. The best is to listen to the doctors considering that they know best.

Thanks for your input.I too have heard that aloe has been used to treat several ailments. As you say the presenters have to hard sell their product and in the process are bound to exaggerate a bit.Aloe i must say must have certain healing properties but i like you often let the doctor have a final say as regards matters pertaining to health are concerned.

Aloe has alot of soothing properties which can translate to healing in minor ailments. For example aloe can soothe sunburn, skin irritations, bites etc and it can also ease sores and pains, but anyone claiming it as a revolutionary or miracle cure is probably playing on the qualities and the susceptibility of the audience. Aloe and its 'healing' properties are not a new thing, as flora/fauna it is something which has been used over thousands of years. In times past it probably was seen as a miracle as any kind of cure/relief we take for granted today would have seemed such in the past.

I accept your view that Aloe has many healing properties as regards skin related ailments are concerned.Probably Aloe has the ability to soothe the body of aches and pains. You are in tune with the scientific lot when you say that Aloe's capacity of miraculous cure is unfounded.Yes in the days gone by when man was dependent on natures healing power which has declined to a great extent with advance of science.

When I read the first line in your post there is one company which came to my mind. They are using aloevera as the raw material in making their products. I will not mention the company though. I believe that aloevera contains some bioactive components which can treat several diseases. These bioactive components need to be extracted from the plant itself. The amount of every bioactive component that is present is not a lot. We are only talking about a little of this and a little of that when we extract a kilogram of aloevera. Regarding the presentation that you went to, I cannot comment on the contents coz you didn't give the details in your post. I do believe however that some people exaggerate their presentation in order to catch the attention of the audience or convince the listeners. In the scientific commmunity, this act is definitely not acceptable coz science is based on facts. Most products claim that they can treat cancer although they can't.

I deeply appreciate your detailed analysis of the pros and cons of the intake of aloevera. What you say is absolutely true and i was informed so that aloe contains some bio active components but what i was informed was that they are extracted in such a manner that their original composition is not lost and is in fact preserved. But yours is a more scientific analysis and i give more credence to your line of reasoning.I do accept your view that the veracity of the product should be based on fact and not exaggeration .

Hello, Picjim. I can only speak from experience, but I think Aloe Vera is one of nature's miracles. We grow it in our garden in Spain, and it helps to cool sunburn and take the itch out of insect bites. My brother used to suffer from terrible stomach problems, but they cleared up as if by magic when he started to take aloe vera juice. Perhaps your doctor friend is afraid his services won't be required if more people turn to aloe vera.

Hello, Sandra. What you say is absolutely true Aloe Vera has several benefits especially for skin related ailments. You are in a position to state with authority the benefits of Aloe as you've grown the plant in your garden and extracted the Aloe juice. As you say i notice skepticism among the scientific community unless its proven under conditions acceptable to them.

It's amazing what great things natural products can do. I heard something about how honey has many healing property's as well. I do love aloe and use it especially when i get a sunburn. It's very soothing and i do notice a big change when i start using it on my sunburns. Sunburns are usually very hot and red. But when i put the aloe on my sunburned skin i notice very soon how the temperature had cooled quite drastically and it didn't look as red anymore. Pretty cool eh?

Aloevera has the very good benefits on skin. Its a natural skincare product which can be applied all over the body. Also it can be consumed for some diseases. During sunny days it can be applied externally inorder to reduce the effects of sun as it act as a good coolent.
