Have you lost anything while travelling? I have--

I have lost my luggage once. I had been to a village to attend my best friend’s daughter’s wedding and while coming back I had a splitting head ache. It was a rickety bus and the heat added to my misery. Another friend had accompanied me and we were sitting side by side. I popped in a headache pill and then became oblivious to the world around me. Had a very good sleep. We soon got down at the bus stop where we had to change to another local bus to our respective houses. But just before I got down I realized that instead of the three bags I had slung across my shoulder there were only two. One had obviously slipped off my shoulder and in this was a beautiful brand new cotton saree.I felt terrible that day It is nearly 10 years since this happened but I always remember how guilty and bad I felt. After that I always carry better luggage and keep cross checking every now and then. We must always be in excellent shape while travelling. If we fall sick or have a problem , our alertness decreases. Don’t you think so?

A couple of years ago my family and I travelled to another state to visit relatives. We were away for two weeks and had a great time. I was looking forward to coming home to my pets and I was in a really happy mood on the flight home until I realised that my daughter’s case was not on the plane! We were still on the ground and I asked the hostess if I could go back to the lounge to retrieve it in case we left it there. The hostess replied that I was not allowed to leave the aircraft but that she would go out and take a look for me which was very nice of her. She returned a while later with the bad news that my daughter’s case was nowhere to be found and that there may have been a chance it was left at the X-Ray area but I would not be able to check on this until I got home. The case contained a lot of my daughter’s shoes and two of my favourite books so I was quite upset and it ruined my flight home. I checked when we landed and indeed the case was at the X-Ray area and they could courier it to us for $50! I paid the money because the shoes were worth more than that but I tell you I have learnt to be a lot more careful with our luggage from then on!

Two of your precious books and your daughter's shoes! I can understand how terrible it would have been. But with 50 dollars expenditure it wa great that you got it back.In our conversion standards 50 dollars is heavy but is it as heavy for you all too?

Certainly $50 is a lot for us and it did pain us to pay it especially after the expense of the trip but it would have cost us a lot more to replace the shoes and the case! It was an awfully feeling realising we left it behind and I hope it doesn't happen again!

I lost a necklace while on my honeymoon trip almost 25 years ago. We were staying in a hotel in Nashville, TN and I had taken my necklace off and put it on the bedside table along with my watch. The necklace must have fallen off the table, because the next night when we were already miles away, I realized I did not have my necklace, but I had my watch. Now we always check the floor and under the bed for items before checking out of a hotel.

I think maybe my grandparents had given the necklace to me. It was just a simple gold chain and I had had it for several years.

Well Kala I have not lost anything during my journeys so far. Touch wood. But I have lost my trunk box long time back even before starting my journey. I was going home after the 8th standard annual exams with my trunk box which contained my books and cloths. I left the box in the TVS bus at the Trichy bus stand and went to buy some magazines. I came to see the bus gone with my trunk box. I was devastated as a person to this environment only six months old since I came from Sri Lanka. I came home and told my dad what happened. As usual he was so cool and asked me to go to Pudukkotai bus depot where they usually keep the missed articles. I went there and asked by the officer in charge to identify my trunk box and I did so. It was returned to me by that kind officer who had a tough time consoling me crying like a baby at the sight of my trunk box. God I still don’t know what made me break down at the sight of that box. Anyhow thanks a lot for making me to take a journey through my lovely Trichy days.

How I wish I had known this Bala. THe bag which I lost may also have been in the missed articles pile in the busstop.[But these days the integrity of people is questionable and mine was a wire bag , an unzipped one.]Your father was a very sensible person and I respect him for his composure. Please take this BR in honour of your father.

So, when you go back to your inlaws' place after your holiday, you can try this out. And especially, if you have to feel sick and miserable after a holiday at parents' place it is all themmore embarrassing, however old we are. It works. So, this is an ideal safeguard.

Hey kalav! When I travel I remain alert no matter how badly I feel! There was only one time when I was travelling by plane that my luggage was on the next flight and I was so angry! I had to wait for the plane to come in land, and then to get the luggage off! I don't remember why the luggage was on another plane because it was only a 2 1/2 hour flight from Florida to NY! But, I finally got my luggage and got home! But, it was still annoying and then I also had a headache! To me watching my luggage is one of the worst parts of the trip always!

Hi Kalav, I have not experience any major thing lost when i travel. umbrella. lots of umbrella that i lost in my travels. i used to hang it on the bus and when it's time for me to go i always forgot to get it. i love longer umbrellas than the folded ones. it also serve as my defense if ever there will be crazy people around wanting to make fool of me or attack me.

On my trip around the world I almost lost my dressing gown and my towel. I went back to a guest house to get my towel that I left there by accident. I had an a message given to me at Fiji Airport. At the information desk was my dressing gown. My mother made my dressing gown and so it is special. I have it upstairs. So it is the oldest item of clothing I own. Later on that trip I was unlucky to have all expect the clothing I was wearing and my dressing gown stolen. I had washed my clothes and hung them on my washing line at the youth hostel. When I got to Brisbane I had to get all new clothes.

Oh! That's so unfortunate that you lost your bag and your saree. I'm extra cautious when i'm traveling because i really don't like to loose things. The only thing that i ever lost before (and it's happened a couple times) was when i lost my umbrella. I just put it down and walk away. this especially happens when i leave my home and it's raining and then the rain stops. i don't think that i need an umbrella anymore and i leave it somewhere by mistake.

It is terribly easy to lose an umbrella especially when the sky is overcast but not raining. Then we would naturally keep it somewhwere and the likelihood of losing it is very high. I am alsways terribly conscious of this esp during monsoon.

I had been there.. I lost my favourite t-shirt when I was at high school. My friends and I went to beach. When we want to go back from beach, I forgot to bring my t-shirt that I took off while play near to the sea. Maybe not only sick or have problem... too much happyness can cause the same (:

I havenet really lost anything while I was traveling. I am always careful and my mom always reminded me of the things I brought with me so I have to be conscious about what I bring. I also count the number of bags when I travel from one place to another and check if everything is still there.

i think, i did a couple of time. in one of the incidents, i lost an entire briefcase, including the documents in it, and some money, of course. i believe it was stolen. on another instance, i misplaced a small document bag that contained by passport and travel papers... it really scared me as i was traveling in a foreign country. however, when i re-traced my route and asked people about my bag, i got it back in a subway station... in their lost and found glass cabinet. well, i hope it never happens again... you see, we have to be always extra-careful and alert on the things we have in tow...

I've been in that situation when I and my relatives traveled from one hometown to another hometown. It took about 8 hours traveled. We passed a lot of town and of course many of the passengers get off from the bus that we ride on. Our baggage was put to the baggage trunk of the bus, because it was too large to put in the middle. Without our knowledge one of the passengers get his luggage and he took the our luggage. I dont know with him why he did recognize his own luggage. When we arrived in the last bus stop we are now looking for our own luggage. There is another luggage left that has name written on it and contact number. We contacted that person, and find out that exchange the baggage. So now we waited for them to arrived for more than 3 hours only to find out they did not bring our own baggage because of this and that. I was really irritated and pissed off with them so, I also did not give their baggage. They are saying that they will give it to me once I give their baggage. To make the long story short, they want me to travel again for another 5 hours to get my own baggage and another 5 hours to get me to my hometown. My point is since they took my baggage why they cant bring it over to the bus terminal and let us exchange the baggage. Then now they want me to travel another 10 hours. It was really inconvenient and annoying. What I did I left my contact information with them and I took their baggage. The next morning I received subpoena stating that I steal their baggage. Its their fault and then now they are adding insult to the injury. I really cant forget that worst experience.

how mean minded of them. They not only took your luggage but also now make false accusations .I had a similar but good experience while transporting luggage.I came over to Mumbai from a distant place Trichy in Tamil Nadu. One particular parcel whhere I had packed two pictures of Lord Rama and Goddess Lakshmi got mistakenly exchanged .We thought we had lost it.One fine day we got a phone call from some person who had this and he had traced us and came t o ur house to deliver it and took the other piece of similar parcel. That parcel apparently had a piece of a big antique mirror. We were very happy to get our pictures back because these particular pictures are an old heirloom from my fatherinlaw and my husband adores them. Luckily, these people are localites.

Last year I forgot the charger of my mobile phone. It was quite annoying since the shops where closed when I came back. So I was unreachable for about a week. On the other hand it was my own mistake. But hey what can you do about it.

I am sorry Kala but me too have been there once. I was quite young and was in Mumbai in my sister's place. During the the first few days we wanted to cover Mumbai for we were supposed to shift to thane soon. We went for the Mumbai Darshan tourist bus. The guide there was way too vocal and was blabbering about the ins and outs of Mumbai which we were hating. He asked us to carry the valuables with us as we got off to visit Hazi Ali shrine. I was quite young and was carrying some money which I had collected for the trip and I left it on the bus. After we returned t was but obvious that it wouldn't be there! Later we found out that the same guide with his peers do this. But they were not to be blamed. Its my carelessness. Then again, its during the same holiday we had to stayed in Aurangadabad for 3 days. It was my most memorable trip till now. i absolutely loved the Ajanta and Ellora. But the careless kind that i am, i again left my vanity bag which had my world, in the car that we hired! But it was a hassle getting to contact them because we had to leave that evening itself! I was heartbroken and never quite got over it..

From nails to cows - that what they contain! My boss keeps fun of my bag all the time asking for screw drivers to choc'lates. lol.. My sister left Mumbai long time back for UAE. My cousin brother has recently shifted there from US as an associated professor in IIT. So, there is still chances, if only I get a holiday. I forgot to tell you that I figured out the reason for your weight gain. Too much love and pamper of your 'bahu'.

And , now why had your sister left Mumbai? If only she were here you would have easily made a trip to this place and it would be a simple matter to see each other. And thta was a bad experience for you. But, to miss your vanity bag!!!! God I cannot dream of this because my handbag would have umpteen things and there can be no better way of describing it than your "my world"- very true.

I had to sleep in a public areas of the Las Vegas airport once between connecting flights and I kept my bags such that I would awaken if anyone tried to grab one, but then I got up to use the restroom and took a ring off while washing my hands afterwards and someone stole right off the edge of the sink while I was reaching for a towel. It was not an expensive ring, but it was unique and one I liked a lot. This did not make me extremely happy. Had I not been groggy from sleep this would not have happened.

About 5 times I lost. Two times I lost my wrist watch in the toilet of the train and one time I kept my diary with some money to carry it but I got down with my luggage leaving the diary and the last occasion my suit case was torn and the things inside the suitcase got removed.During the travel in the bus I was sitting near the gate in the bus and I removed my chapel to keep my foot free and the chapel was taken away by somebody and it was new chapel.

When I was in 12th class and visiting my uncle during vacation. While coming back I came down from bus to buy some eatables and again came back to the bus. Bus was about to start for the next stop and suddenly I realize that my wallet is missing from my back pocket. I requested the driver to wait for 2 minutes and rushed to the shop. The shopkeeper had my wallet in his hand and the moment I reached he gave me that. I thanked God and took a note of my carelessness. Thank God I got the wallet back, it had not much money but the I card which could take long time to get again.

just don't let it go! - woman with a cellphone at hand.make sure to be careful of the thing that is really important to you!
yes,i agree to that!our alertness decreases also if we're having so much fun while travelling that we ought to forget how many bags are we carrying. i still can remember when me and my whole family went to baguio, philippines. there was a seminar there for our parents, they were both teachers til now.and it was i think 10 years ago.we had a three days two nights spend there.and it was such a nice place, really cold climate.(i wonder how it feels like now there in baguio, cause here in manila it's so freaking hot!).we really enjoyed the place and very many souvenirs to choose from, also the delicacies, sweets, and also there were cheaper vegetables than here in manila.i really missed tripping there.our parents dances there with other teachers and then of course they have costumes back then.our mom is really beautiful that day because of the dress she's wearing.well, time passed and we have to get back to manila.we took a bus ride back home.there were so many bags that we brought then, and we didn't even realized we've lost one bag.it is placed under the seat our parents were seating that's why we forgot it.it's just a normal bag but the dress the our mother wore has it.and we really can't remember the other things that are on it.well, good things never last.we never have the chance to see our mother again in that beautiful dress. and one more thing also when i'm with my boyfriend i remembered 2 years ago.my father got hospitalized back then and was confined.i went to the hospital morning that day to bring some clothes and other stuffs needed by my father.after how many hours,i texted my boyfriend to come over to the hospital and help me bring back home the clothes that got dirty.it was just one heavy bag that he carried and it was safely zipped.while i have a shoulder bag which have no zipper but something just to cover the entire bag.i was texting my bestfriend and we (me and my boyfriend) took a jeepney ride.there was a traffic back then, which makes the journey longer.there was a woman seating next to me and i found her unusual but i just let it pass.i kept my cellphone inside my bag.and then when we got out of the jeep,i used to see if i've left something where i passed, what i saw is the woman beside me had seated upon something.i didn't mind it at first because i'm talking to my bf happily.we were arguing to where should we go.but then,we stopped to a mall nearby.and i searched for my cellphone in the bag.to my surprise,it wasn't there!i felt like crying and started blaming myself.and i remembered the woman beside me.why did i let her pass?there's something she had seated upon when i left, but then i ignored it.it was my cellphone!i keep on blaming myself for that incident and i tried to look up for the jeepney,of course it was already gone.and my bf had no load to call my number.i was so angry at myself cause that was a gift for me from my sister.how could i tell her?i feel so angry and ashamed, disappointed to myself!mixed emotions came to me and i felt weak,i don't know what to do.my bf keeps on cheering me up,but it came too long before it happened and we just go home after eating.i didn't almost finished my food because of what happened.i took my food instead and finished it at home. from then on,it made me a lesson,to always be alert on what's happening around you specially when you have things that are really important to you!

You poor thing! THe events you have described must have been really painful at that point of time , in fact the sense of guilt would linger with us for a long time.Though the first incident was nt due to any fault of yours unlike the second, the fact that you loved to see your mother in that beautiful dress came through vividly in the manner you have described.

what happened to my mother is easy to accept, because i mean, its just a dress! i can see her again wearing a dress that best suits her. what happened to me was really tragic for me,because it's really my fault. its really hard to accept, and made me thinking and blaming myself for how many days! you know what,my boyfriend that time also lost his cellphone years earlier when i'm with him.we were in a crowd then at the mall because there was a premiere night in such movie.his pants are lousy that time that makes it easier to get his cellphone in his pocket.we we're young back then, and he also blames himself because of it. i think we were really not meant to be.when we're together bad things usually happens.i don't know but sometimes i believe in signs.how about you?
