Has anyone had experience with health screening tests?

There is a testing being sponsored by a local hospital and set up in my church next month. For $139 I could get 4 tests to determine my danger of stroke and heart attack, see if my arteries are blocked, if I'm in danger of an aneurysm and find out if I have or are in danger of having bone loss (osteoporosis). I'm wondering if these are worth the price. I'm 56 and haven't seen a doctor for years, although I plan on getting a checkup next week.
What do you think of testing like this? Have you had it done?

No I have never need to have a sponsored group testing performed. Since I was in my early forties I has always kept my annual preventative test up to date and they included all the test you mention (and more). Now at 71 I am reaping the benefits of always having these annual tests keep me in the best of health.

71?!
I thought you were in your 40's for some reason!
I've never done the annual checkup thing--either didn't have the money or the kids or husband needed something. Now I'm living alone and 56, I thought maybe it's time to take care of myself. I know the tests I mentioned are much cheaper than having them separately but I don't want to waste my money or my time.
I need to have a checkup anyway, maybe I'll ask my new doc about it when I get one.

I think you are getting a really good deal because I am pretty sure the bone density test for osteoporosis by itself costs more than $139.00.
I think that at your age and living along means you can really start to take care of yourself. I found it much easier when I started to live alone.
Thanks for thinking I was younger. I find the older I get that age is only a number because I feel better now than I did 20 years ago.

I would ask the doctor if he thinks these tests are all necessary for you to get. He would be your best judge. That is a good price for that many tests. Probably one would cost more than that in the hospital. He would know more whether or not they were reliable.

I don't have a doctor yet. I tried to make an appointment yesterday but the line was busy every time I called. I haven't seen a doctor for probably 7 years except for when I had my appendectomy last May. But you're right, I probably should ask a doc and that is my plan if I can get in to see him.
Seems docs are really busy these days and some are not even accepting new patients! Where did all these sick people come from?!!

I haven't had any testing for a few years since I had my son. But I'm looking to get things tested to next week @ my appt. We have a whole slew of common issues and I'd rather go in and see how things are looking then find out the hard way in the ER.

That's a very good point that I didn't think of. Spending money now is much cheaper than an ER and subsequent hospital stay.

No, I have never had any of these tests done. I always wanted to, but never had the opportunity to. I think that getting these tests done will alert someone if they are at an potential risk of having a condition. It is always good to know. If I was offered this, I would take my chances on getting it. I always wondered how everything is working in my body. I have had some Cholesterol tests done and that is all.

I'm wondering if it's cheaper to take this package than purchase them separately--I know lab work is horribly expensive and I had very high cholesterol when it was tested 7 years ago!

When I got my cholesterol checked 5-7 years ago (time kind of gets confusing after awhile!) the test was $85! So I guess this would be a good value. I'll check it out, see it it's legit and go if it is. Thanks!
