HI guys,
It's me again hope you can shed light on this. Could you please tell me how to choose the right pup for rescue and protection work? I mean not that I will let her go into that but I have been awfully sick lately and there are times I could not call someone to my room, my bedroom is upstairs and my family stays mainly downstairs and it's not easy for them to hear. Also I plan to bring my would be dog anywhere with me and that he would be trained to get help should something happen to me. At the same time the village I live is no longer secure, there have been robberies around here and I fear that this bandits may try and break in knowing that we are all women in the house.
My dog is a JRT so it's so small and can easily be overpowered by 3 men lets say oe even 2. What are the signs to look for that the pup is best suited for what I intend for him to be? What breeds are best suited for this? Do you think a labrador well also be a good guard dog or is this breed too friendly? What about the Belgian Mallinois? The St. Bernard? Pls feel free to tell me anything you know that is helpful it is well appreciated.

Actually, as far as it goes for a dog that would be the best for rescue, it would be best to find a dog that had already been trained for that kind of job. A service dog so to speak. I know that there are a lot of laboradors that are trained for this kind of work and my cousin has had one to help him since he was involved in an accident in 1988 that left him a quadriplegic. If you have a dog that is trained to help you in medical situations, the dog is also going to become very protective of you so the same dog would serve as a good dog for protection as well.

Thanks dorannmwin. Dog here are not yet trained I would have to enroll him in a basic obedience class first and then advance training. I am buying a bullmatiff at the end of the month and I like the breed because of its sweet temperament just like the labrador but more obedient and gentle. I hope she would be good as a rescue/protection dog.

Hi, try to consider Aspin, I have two Aspin dogs and they are very big help they bark loudly if they hear any sounds even small sounds specially at midnight you can also train them, they can understand what we want to tell them. Try also German Shepperd or the bomb snipping dog police are using, I just don't know what breed was that.
