Yeah! I got the key to my apartment yesterday. For the last 3 years I have been living with people and in hospitals and nursing homes with my son. But now I have my own place once again! Someone has offered to help me get furniture too as I don't really have anything anymore! Yeah! I am so excited!!! Just had to let you all know... when have you been so excited about a new start?

I'm so happy for you and your new start. I hope it will bring you peace in your life. The last time I was happy and excited about a new start was three years ago. Now after the three years I can definitely see I made a bit of a mistake moving from New York to New Mexico. Well it was not entirely a mistake because I have been able to help raise my one and only granddaughter. So that has been a blessing. Hopefully I will be excited again once my home is sold and I can move to Puerto Rico. Good luck to you and hope your son is doing better.

It is indeed a new start. I hope when he gets better I can move back to Chicago... we'll see how all that turns out. (Aren't grandkids the greatest?!)

Congratulations. I'm very happy for you and Chris. I'm also glad to see that you made the correct decision regarding the two options you posted earlier this week. I have an old saying that always helps me when I'm facing what appears like to be impossible odds. "Break down. Break through." Here's to new beginnings! Cheers; cdrxo

My pleasure. I may not live in Chicago, but I'm routing for both of you, every step of the way. ...and though Chris does not know me, give him my best anyway. Cheers; cdrxo

Congratulations macdingolinger! It must have been a struggle to live with others, adapting yourselves to the environment and accomodating the lives of different people. Now that you have your own apartment, you have more privacy and freedom for your family, which allow for making the best of our life. I am shifting to a new apartment soon, after having living in my current old apartment for last 25 years. It is a definitely exciting to begin anew, as we put the past behind and advance forward courageously with a new sense of hope.

It is a good feeling to know I can have my own space. One added benefit is indeed being able to have my family come. I am trying to figure out when I can have my daughter's family over for an evening meal... guess I better get some pans first!

OMG Good for you! It's good to hear about that. Having your own place is one the most greatest to have ever. especially you're young and up for a challenge to explore the real world. I'm 21 years old and i haven't experienced having my own bedroom. i get jealous when my friends invited me to have a slumber party in their OWN room. I don't belong in a rich family so we only live in an apartment with 2 bedrooms. one for the old stuff and appliances and the other as the family bedroom. 4members of the family including me sleep in one bed. imagine that. i really dislike it. so what i'm gonna do is to work my a** off when i get a job so i can save up so we can move to a bigger house! Oh and i'll save money for myself too so i can buy my OWN house and sleep in my OWN bedroom lol! I have also made a bucket list and that's one of it. :D I'm giddy excited to cross that out in my list. :D

Yeah, when I was growing up I didn't usually have my own room either. Then I went to college and still had a roommate! Then I got married.. and had him for a roommate! I have had my own room for awhile, but always in someone else's house!

Congratulations are in order then! I can relate because my husband and i have been very happy and excited and proud when we got our very own place. we used to rent a unit in the same condo area, and our then-future unit can be seen outside our window, so everyday we get to see its progress. when we finally moved in, we were so happy. just after one year of being married, we have a place we call our own.

I am probably too old to even think about trying to ever buy anything. But I am happy to rent my own personal space!!

GOOD FOR YOU! I know just how you feel. Not too long ago I was in the same boat. That was about 6 years ago. Now I live in my own place and I'm loving it. There is nothing more satisfying than having your "OWN" space. It gives me a sense of total independence. No waiting for the toilet or shower. No having to share the TV etc. and no sometime grumpy housemate. How about it out there? Do feel the same way?

I really haven't had too many (not any) grumpy housemates.. it's been a good experience over all but it will be good to have my own space anyway!

Hi macdingolinger, really glad to know that you and your son finally can enjoy living freely in your own apartment I can imagine how excited you are the moment you step in your own home the very first time. To me other stuffs are not that important as long as I can enjoy my freedom in my own house genuinely and do whatever I wish in my own private world without bothering others And I don't have to worry what I do might disturb or bring any inconvenience to others as well. We could get what we need like furniture, appliances and other facilities gradually. I believe everyone does dream to have his or her own residence after has grown up and get into the real world or having one's own family. Take care and happy posting

My son isn't coming yet. He has to go to rehab first. It was just a step toward getting a place he can come to when he gets done. Hopefully in the next two weeks or so he'll go to rehab then home!

Hi, macdingolinger. That is so wonderful! I am happy for you! I know how you feel to have your own place at last. I moved into my apartment in October after staying with my in-laws for four months. And I can't tell you how relieved that I was when we got accepted at our apartment. I was like, "Thank you, Jesus!" I was so ready to move out of there. My mother-in-law would say all kinds of weird things to me and to my children, until I was just so frustrated. I have lived with them in the past, for five years. So, staying with them again, was very uncomfortable for me and my family. Now I have my own personal space, I don't have to worry about anyone seeing everything that I am doing. I can talk on my home telephone without someone trying to eavesdrop on my conversation. It is a great feeling to know you can do like you want to when you have your own place. Staying with others can become so tiresome. I know the feeling. I hope that you will enjoy your freedom and your new apartment! Congratulations!

Congratulations on getting your own apartment! To tell you the truth, the last time I felt so excited was when I got my current apartment too. I went to visit many apartments but all had something bad, and then I found it, the right one for me. It was really exciting to start in a new place

Thanks so much! It is exciting for sure! I applied for section 8 which is government aid. They say it's difficult to get in an apartment but I only went to one and got it so I didn't even look at any others!

Thanks! Tonight will be my first night to stay there. I have a foam pad to sleep on and absolutely no other furniture there yet! It's like a mini-adventure!
