Well I think most of us hates virus. Then how did you protect your computer? I was advise by my friend to install DeepFreeze and so far it is working well. How about you?

for me, DeepFreeze is quite troublesome, especially when you wanna install or remove software, u must unfrozen it, restart, install/remove software that u want, frozen it again, and restart..~. i prefer use anti virus and always keep up-to-date, disable auto-run from USB and CD and regularly scan my computer from virus

I agree with you. It is really as hassle to unfreeze. But what I did is I installed already all the necessary tools, software, etc. then I freeze my drive. I only freeze my drive c: and the rest of the drives are not. If ever I wanted to install new software, like games. I install it on the drive that is unfreeze.

hi,it is better to not on the computer to protect from virus ratherthan keeping in deep freeze....... Don't open mails from unknown/doubt mail senders-main cause for virus attack...don't insert C.D.,FLOPPY,USB.....in your system which are used by somany people and in so many computers.....

Well, I couldn't keep up with all the needed protection and the paranoia so I tried installing Linux side by side Windows XP. Interestingly, I found out that there's practically no Linux equivalent to the popular anti-virus software in Windows. When I asked around in Linux forums, apparently there seems to be no need for any. Anyway, I'm a happy Linux user for almost a year now. And the only protection I installed in my system are the blockers for Firefox. Other than those, I haven't thought about viruses for a very long time now.

Hi jamed28 i recommend you to have an anti-virus instead of your deep-freeze software i also know that software and i think its much applicable on internet shop or computer cafe but i do not advice it on personal computers because you can have many trouble with that software, like when you are downloading files, making a project, playing and saving a game, there are many disadvantages using that software., so use an anti-virus, Avira is good , but if like total security try Bitdefender or Kaspersky both are great anti-virus but take too much ram that can slow down your computer while its performing a process.- that's all i hope it'll help., have a nice day.

Hi jamed28, I used deep freeze earlier when my data plan sucked, It helped me a lot ,like protection from spy-ware,virus,maintains the registry settings of-course it prevented a lot of reformat situations ..etc Above all less resources to protect your pc like CPU-almost 0% RAM 1-2% All it need's is a restart and the computer is back as fresh... However it has some disadvantages too Like the deep freeze rarely creates a condition called infinite loop and the only solution is reformat and reinstall the OS.. The second is it must always be ON when on internet so no system updating is possible-I mean windows update.. Some useful tips a. Partition and make a new drive to save file and keep it thawed, since C is always frozen.. b. Now move your documents and settings to this partition, this is helpful if you play games,or other software which stores settings usually in C dive which is frozen Now I'm using ms security essentials it is nice but consumes RAM and CPU.. Hope this was informative... Happy myLotting .. Have a nice day/night...

I dont even use Anti-virus and so far havent been infected. Just a bunch of cookie trackers but easily deletable. I just do manual scans for viruses when inserting media into my computer and read the comments before downloading stuff. All i can say is the best protector of a computer is yourself.

I am playing/working with PCs and Macs for almost the last 17-18 years.. I can proudly say my pc was never attacked by VIRUS.. Install a good antivirus software.. For the past 6 years i am using Avira Antivir. a free antivirus. I can vouch for it . Keep on updating it regularly (daily) . you won't be attacked. you computer is protected. When u insert any external media(USB drive, Harddisk) Avira will catch any autorun viruses. To be on a safer side u can even run the virus check on the connected drive. I never do that though. So try this method. All the best

Hi jamed28, I do many things to protect my valuable files on my computer. I don't want to ever have to loose them because allot of the files are unreproducible, photos. What I do is I run multiple virus scans throughout the week. I also have a router with a built in firewall. These two will protect me from viruses and hackers. The next thing, and in my opinion the most important thing, is that I back up all of my files on my computer. I back every single file onto an external drive. I also back everything onto a remote location. This way if something happens on site, my files wouldn't be harmed. -BestComputerGeek

Based on my experience, there are some virus and malwares that are capable of bypassing deepfreeze. Probably unless you freeze all drives. But then again any removable drives can be infected by any malwares. Worse is, if a dangerous virus could do some damage on the drive, then you be able to boot. :(. The best protection is care in using your computer. Here are some personal tips I could give you. 1. Get a good anti-virus program, I recommend one of the following: bitdefender, kaspersky or NOD32 2. always keep your virus definition updated. 3. Get a good malware remover. I recommend either Malwarebytes or Spybot Search and destroy. Both are free. 4. If you are always on the net, install K9 Webprotection. It will protect you from known sites that spread mal-wares. 5. Do not download programs from sites and e-mails that you don't know and trust. 6. If you have a USB, actively scan it always before opening it. There are still so many tips I can give you. Better yet, visit my blog http://tekbytes.blogspot.com I have posted some tips on protecting your computer and this topic just gave me an idea what to post next. In fact it would be a series of posts. thanks. You may leave a message on my cbox if you need to ask something. Have a safer computing.
