Well after a late frost here in Minnesota I thought my sweet corn died off.
So I went ahead and planted more seeds for the killing frost loss. But......
This is one of maybe 50 or more plants that I have in my garden this year. Most are about 4 or 5 inches tall so far too. At this rate the squirrels can eat their share & I'll still have plenty left for us to enjoy as well. I moved things around this year as the corn was attacked by ants badly last year. Seems there's no any hills near the garden area this year. Do critters munch on your garden at all?

The critters that attack my garden are wild rabbits and those vicious Japanese Beatles.
Though I'm happy to have my 3 lil critters munching in the garden when it's time to harvest ;0)

I have Buster my beagle and he has barked/howled enough that the rabbits
stay away from the garden for the most part. Ants are my main pproblem
it seems with the gardening.

I use a pet friendly granular thingy for them.
It works to a point and doesn't harm crops etc.
Thanks for the link, I'll check it out soon.

No garden to speak of here this year. I wanted to, but I got lazy. I don't know if I still have time to do it or not. It is only the end of May, so if I get my butt in gear maybe I will have time. I am glad that nothing has attacked your crops so far. Hopefully it stays that way.

Something certainly eats my garden. I came back from vacation and the weed fairy had left me plenty. I do not know who the guilty party is that took some of my pepper plants, though. I know crows will carry some plants off, but I suspect Mr. Grubworm.

We put used coffee grounds at the base of our tomatoes and the bugs avoid them.

I don't have a garden but I'm glad you haven't had a worse problem than ants this year. We used to have a garden a lot when daddy was living and I remember what a time we had keeping the rabbits, squirrels, and moles out of it. I don't remember what daddy did if he did anything to keep them out. If the squirrels don't eat their share of your corn, it sounds like you'll have more than enough, lol
! I always say that too much of something is better than not enough, though

Grandpa Bob,
I´m trying some old ideas to keep away some pests. My grandmother used to pour a boiling ketlee of water in ants holes and housing. And a mylotter gave me the brilliant idea of putting crumbled egg shells around plants so snails and slugs didn´t get at them. Thet´s 2 vermins less
. Then there´s that nasty smelling juice I make with mariglod petals or detergent spray for other bugs.
Fortunatly I don´t have squirrels, rabbits ot gophers in my country. They are cute, but not a garden´s best friend.
I want to tell you that you were my inspiration to start again a vegetable garden last year, after many years of not doing it.
THank you and take care.

I don't have a garden. I live in a city near business establishments. However, it seems nice having one. My Grandpa has a farm. He has a lot of crops planted there. It was a very big farm. He has a rice field, corn field and also a mango yard. Aside from that he has a coconut farm, watermelon and vegetable farm.
I used to stay in his farm during my summer vacation when I was still a student. That was more than 15 years ago. However, he sold his farm because no one among his children wanted to stay there. All of them wants to live in the city and does not want doing any farm work. He is my grandfathers father. During that time he was already 80+ years old. I was very close to him. He was my Mom's grandfather and when he sold his farm he stayed with us in the city.
He did not like the city life but he had no choice. He can't stay in the farm alone. He is already half blind during that time and the Doctor said operation is not a good idea since he is too old for that and he has a rheumatic heart fever. The Doctor said it will just end his life. I knew he really loves farming. His whole life was spent in his farm so it might have broke his heart selling it and living in the city.
