Many people seem to be scared of water. Some of use love to dive into a breaking wave and play with wakes and surf. What is your take on the ocean? What are your best ocean memories?

The first time my mom and dad took me to the ocean I didn't want to get in the water,I was 2 or 3? The next time they couldn't get me out of the water. When I was a teen , I would walk along the water , only getting my feet wet. The last time I went to the beach I didn't even go into the water. I just sat by it. so I guess I have gone full circle.

I think it was that I Know the water isn't like the pool water and I am not really into sand.

OH that is true, you did complete a circle of changes. That is very interesting. I wonder what led you to such change. I have not been to the beach in years and this last time I was there, I could not stay out of the water LOL and I am in my 40s lol. I felt like I missed my best friend in for ever, sort of speak.

i love it! although i don't get to go to the ocean a lot. but whenever i do, i can't get enough of it. i would love to learn how to scuba, surf and all the other things you can do at the ocean. my best one would have to be last year, when my friend took me and my friend out on an island hopping. not only was it free, the beaches we went to were really good! and we all enjoyed snorkeling!

I love water. Now the ocean I am not familiar with it at all. I went one time into the ocean and something hit my foot. It was dark so I didnt see what it was. It scared the crap out of me. I am pretty sure it was a tiny fish the kind I am unsure. It looked light in color in the reflection of light. But I am afraid of a jelly stinging me. That is the only thing I am afraid of when it comes to the ocean.

oh yes It is amazing to discover it. I still remember my first time at the ocean, from way back in my childhood. I agree with you, one must always be aware of them little crawlers.

I love the ocean very much but I've never been a good swimmer myself. Or rather, I'm really a bad swimmer. As I was living in the north of my country where there's no ocean, I didn't have the chance to learn to swim until I came to college. At that time, I was urged by friends to learn to swim in a pool, which, as you may imagine, took me a long time. The worst part was I still couldn't balance myself well in water. It seems swimming in the ocean is a lifelong dream for me.

ah I believe you will get that dream to become true some day soon. I am happy your friends encouraged you well, remember no limits.

Ocean!? Water, water every where, not single drop to drink. But it does not matter to me. I enjoy ocean. My most favorite time pass is sitting in sea beach and allowed the waves to come to me and to wet me. Oh! What a feeling, when the waves broke to my knee. Bathing is another thrill. jump and jump with the wave or pass the wave above the head is just amazing.

I love to visit the ocean but I don't swim out into it. I might get out to my waist but that's as far as I go. My family used to visit family in Florida and once we went on a big family vacation. My cousins, aunts, uncles...at that time I knew no fear and would swim like a little fish. My cousin screamed and had to be dragged out of the waves. He had been stung by a jellyfish! He was in the hospital for days and had a scar to show for it. I guess I might have been a bit traumatized by it.

oh I understand you. I heard that is very painful and would hate getting scared by any of such means or any. I sometimes do worry about it, but I guess I have been very lucky.

climber hi I enjoy walking along the shore watching the Pacific ocean go in and out, watching the sea birds, the pelicans and the seals at play. I love to search for sea shells and polished rocks and polished glass that is sea smoothed. I love to find the tide pools and watch the sea anemones and other sea plants, its all so relaxing and calming too. A leisurely walk along the ocean and then a stop at Charlies chili, this is on Newport Beach Calif by the way. I live six miles away. I do not get there often now as I am stuck in this retirement center for now.

I have only been to the ocean once. It was at two different beaches, but the same beach trip. I think that it was a nice experience, and I can't wait to go back to the ocean this fall. I can't say what my best ocean memory was, but I did enjoy the beach the last time, and can't wait for this time. Wait, I guess picking up seashells was my favorite :D

oh I bet you will really enjoy it when you go back, I would recommend to enjoy and know your limits, don't be afraid to get in and refresh, enjoy the sunset, the sun, play, enjoy the sand. collect shells.

I love swimming in the ocean! The only problem is, I don't live close enough to one to go swimming in it very often. The nearest one to where I live is Gulf Shores, Alabama and that's over 600 miles from here. I love riding the waves! I am afraid of sharks, though! That's one thing I don't like about it. I can't think of any memories I have of the ocean but they were always enjoyable ones.

oh I can relate to that as well. For me its like a 4 hour drive to get to the shore, but when I get there, I feel like a totally different person. Its so rejuvenating. Thanks for replying and sharing :)

I love the smells, sounds, and sights of the ocean. I could sit on the beach all day. However getting in doesn't work for me. I don't know why but the thought of critters swimming around me creeps me out. But I am not scared of water I swim quite well, in a pool, or lake where I can't see what is in there LOL.

well is true, that I also worry about what else is keeping me company in the water or mostly if I am about to be some fish's dinner lol, then again that also happens out side the water so might as well enjoy and try and be good in it if I am going to go in it. lol

I absolutely love the ocean. Although I do not surf (no big waves where I live) or dive (you must have a license), I love just playing in the water. I love beaches where the water is so clear, I could see fishes swimming. I love the blue-green colour of the ocean and it has quite calming effects on me. Collecting seashells and other odd objects I find is also a nice experience. Finding crab holes and hermit crabs makes me a little excited. Even just sitting and staring out at the ocean and waves breaking just makes me happy.
