So what do you think about the vote to allow gays to be open in the military? Personally I think it's great. It's not like they serve any different, their sacrifice is the same and we should be grateful. What ya think?

Anyone who joins our military and serves our country is alright in my book, and as a u.s. marine i dont care if their gay or not and either should anyone else, why should anyone care who they love or how they love someone? it's no ones business but the people involved.

I think they should have waited for the military report to come in. They need to see how it will affect the combat status. If it harms the combat readiness in any way, then the clear answer has to be no, regardless of any personal feelings on the subject.

Waiting for the official reports that are coming out in December. Which is when, they should actually be voting on this legislation. Instead of now, when they should be concentrating on the unemployment rate which is on the verge of going up again. This is due to the closing of the Space Program and the lay-off of thousands of Census workers.

Reports from the field are available. The troops don't care...as long as everyone does their job.

Honestly I worry for their safety. It shouldn't have to be that way but that is the way it is in the military. When I was in during the 80's there was guys in our unit that were somewhat feminine and they were given a pretty hard time. You got to remember most of the guys who are in the service are young men barely out of high school and are very immature. Doesn't make it right but lets face its the military so that alone encourages violent under tones.

ya but if they are allowed to be open about it then their can be actions taken if there is a problem. I think it has to be done, if they want to serve their country then they should be allowed.

Honestly this should have been done ages ago. And as for those who have a problem with serving with gays and women perhaps it is they who should not be in the service. Our women and gay soldiers are in far more danger from our own troops then they are in from the enemy. Perhaps it is time that our soldiers had themselves slapped and slapped hard for breaches of law such as rape and sodomy. Perhaps the Officers should stop protecting those monsters and we would see a dramatic improvement in our military. And for whomever is going around and labeling any discussion on this policy mature content that is highly immature of you. This discussion does not fall under mature content and their is no reason why even a 13 year old could not participate in the discussion as no one is posting anything descriptive in here. We are discussing laws and military policy for mercy's sake. Can we please leave mature content for those discussions which actually are?

I think gays should be allowed to serve and protect their country. I have the capacity to have straight guy friends who I am not physically attracted to and we can do just about anything else without one shred of indecent thought crossing my mind. Of course I can't speak for the whole community but that's my opinion on that. The main reason the law was put there in the first place was because homosexuality was seen as a mental disorder. Now in these common days we know it's not, but yet the law still exists... now we fight in our own country for our rights, and our freedoms. Its quite sad I think.

I think it would be good to allow gays to be open in military because people do not realize how much of a stress it is to try to hide what you are from people.

I agree with EvanHunter, I have seen many gays, that the way they display their selves, way they throw their self around, wanting people to make sure they know they are gay, leaves other's to believe that they would not be the bravest ones to put on the front lines. What they do after they join, and go through basic training, I can not say. But I guess it is the display they put on in public that would worry me about fighting side by side with them in a fire fight. i don't object t them being in the military, everyone has the right to defend our country, and I am proud of any one gay, straight, or whatever that has the courage to enlist now. When it comes to women, there are things women can do, and there are things they can't do, they are women. Now as far as fighting along side of them on the front lines, seen many women that are bad as a man any day. And I think it takes a special person when it is a woman to enlist and be on that front line. As to one dying out there, I don't think it has anything to do with what gender you are, but if it your time to go, you would go sitting on your front porch.

I think it OK. I don't see any problem with it as long as they do their duties. Girls are allowed in the military so why not gay people? After all they are also women by heart.
