What's your BMI?

According to the Body Mass Index, an average number is between 18 and 25. Anything over 25 is overweight, and over 30 is considered obese. If you don't know your BMI you can calculate it here: http://www.bing.com/bmi/search?domain=bmi&q=bmi+obese&FORM=DTPNUA&qpvt=bmi+obese How important do you think the BMI is? Do you fall within normal range? Mine is about a 26, so I'm still slightly overweight, supposedly. However I have a lot of muscle... I think with some more hard work I could get below a 25 BMI.. but I don't think I'll ever get to a 22 which is ideal.

Sure isn't. First time I checked my BMI it was like a 35.. I had a video game tell me I was obese, that was lovely!

Hang on, I know that game, it always tells me I am over wheight, I am going to go hop on it, and find out for you. 29.27 up 6 pounds from a month ago....damn bacon. Time to actually start looking at maybe possibly trying to lose weight. I already eat mostly right, aside from the Bacon. And it is summer time, lots of nice weather for exercise, shouldn't be difficult. Cheers.

I've checked mine because I do think it is important. I am definitely over 25, but I'm not so far that I feel like it will be impossible to fix.

Wow, mine is like 32. Almost makes me sick. I hate to see what it would have been before i started losing weight. I wish my weight loss was going as good as your is. I think my other issues are holding me back. I've been doing weight watchers and going to the gym a few nights a week though. but i think i sometimes just have no motivation to eat right or try hard and that is what is holding me back. I'm hoping to get my bmi in a healthier range eventually.

Keeping motivation is hard. I think you just have to want it bad enough. It's not like this is the first time I've attempted to lose weight. Everytime before this I'd lose like 20 lbs and give up and gain 30 back. This time just felt different from the start.. it felt like I was more serious about it, like I wanted it more than I'd ever wanted it before. Don't give up, you'll get there, just keep pushing. If nothing else keep in mind that you don't want to gain the weight back!! If you can at least maintain what you are now, then it will be easier to lose the next time the motivation hits you.

Mine is 32. Yes, I know I am obsese. The Wii fit tells me that every time I get on it. It was around 35 but I have lost 27 lbs on Weight Watchers. I plan to be down in normal range within a year.

The problem with BMI is that it doesnt take into account all the factors, it works with your height and your weight. Muscle weighs more than fat (or so everyone keeps telling me), my friends BMI shows that he is nearly obese, however he is one of these who works out in the gym everyday, he is very fit and has a lot of muscles, yet according to his bmi he is not healthy! Mine works out to be 25 which means Im not overweight and on paper looks more healthy than my friend, yet if you saw us side by side you would realise that it is not the case. I wouldnt say that I am overweight but think that I probably could lose a bit of weight, I just cant be bothered to lol! Im happy with the way I look.

I think Arnold Schwarzenegar would be considered obese by the BMI. When I first stepped on my Wii Fit, which uses a BMI, it told me I was obese. I did not think I was obese. I still don't think I was obese. I consider an obese person to be around 300 lbs. I was 200 lbs at the time. To me that was overweight, but not obese. While I agree I still have a few pounds to lose, I do not think I'm currently overweight. I think I should actually be in the normal range.

Thats what I mean, some of these ways of working out whether your healthy doesnt take into consideration all the factors, I dont think Im overweight, although if my BMI goes up one point it will tell me that I am, I think I just look healthy, ok so Im not thin, but if I went down to what some weight loss clubs say is my ideal weight, then I know I wouldnt look right. Im happy with the way I look, I eat quite healthy, I exercise regular so I know Im doing the right thing for my health. My sister is thinner than me but just eats loads of junk food all the time, so even though she is her ideal weight, eating junk cant be healthy, whereas I make sure I get my 5 fruit and veg a day. I think most people know if they are healthy or not, and while BMI and other weight guides can be helpful I dont think they are always accurate.

My BMI is, I am sure, in the obese range. I have a chart inside my medicine cabinet that tells it, I just am too tired to go look right now. I got a body fat measuring scale at a yard sale for just four dollars, and I am higher than I have ever been. While I was away working this week I did lose three pounds, Yay me! I will be doing the same thing next week and so my goal is to lose at least three more pounds. That was with eating huge breakfasts, but very light lunches and mostly light suppers, and snacking during the day. I was more active and it was less food than I consume at home.

mine is 20.8 I don't exercise much but i watch what i eat, i don't smoke and drink once in while sometimes only 5x a year..maybe my metabolism is high, because the nature of my job requires lots of hours seating (minimum of 10 hrs, a day). i also eat rice every meal 2 cups an average, but i don't eat fats (meat fats), i love vegetables..

Looks like I fall into the normal range. Apparently mine is 21.6. I'm not exactly sure how important it is as it can't be measured by height and weight alone. I think other factors should be taken into consideration, like diet and exercise. So, although it might come in handy for some, it could definitely use some work before everyone started using it as something to go by. Happy mylotting! PS Keep up the good work!

My BMI is 18.7. I have got the normal weight and it shows god in the BMI calculator. But i was lean and my friends tease me of seeing my lean. I thought of improving two to four kilos for my body weight.

I got 20.9, so I think that's healthy?..I think knowing your BMI is very important because some people do not know if they are already obese or something... Thanks for the info..
