well i am chinese and using chopsticks is like eating with a spoon, fork or knife but i always see people using chopsticks as for stabbing like a fork or like a spoon to slide the food above them. well i usually eat japanese food and always i see someone using a chopstick and the food "flies" before reaching their mouth. It made me laugh a little bit.

Yes, I use chopsticks whenever I eat in a Japanese or a Chinese restaurant. It's hard to use the first time, but as I continually use it I learn to grasp and use it properly. But still, food sometimes flies or falls before reaching the mouth. lol. well, I do believe that practice makes perfect.

I tried using one before out of curiosity, but I always end up getting no food. I think I need a lot of practice to really be an expert in using a chopsticks.

With the proliferation of Chinese and Japanese restaurants here in the Philippines, i have no choice but to learn how to use chopsticks also. I now , know how to use the chopsticks, but like you said i may look funny using it because i am not yet an expert. But sometimes on those restaurants, i still would ask for a fork and spoon if they have because it is what i am convenient with.

Hi, o0jopak0o. I don't know how to use chopsticks. All I know is how to use a spoon and a fork. Using a chopstick makes me eat slower, which I can't just do when I am good and hungry.

I'm not Oriental, but I was taught how to use them, & it wasn't hard to learn. Anyone who can grasp the basic concept of a fulcrum & a lever can properly grasp chopsticks. I'm guessing that why some people don't know how is just a lack of education in the matter. Maybe restaurants should see if their customers would like to have a waiter demonstrate? I'm not really good at using chopsticks but I make sure all of the food reached my mouth. I usually use chopsticks when I'm eating in a Japanese restaurant. But I get tired easily so I always use spoon and fork to finish my food.
