I go to breakfast every weekend at McDonalds. So when they started selling the Shrek glasses I was excited because I knew I would be able to grab them. They are really nice glasses. Not plastic like the others. I bought Shrek first. Next day Fiona. Next Donkey. All of a sudden NO more glasses. WTF!?! I now had to go on a search for the last Puss n Boots glass. I have called everywhere within a 20 mile radius and not one McDonalds restaurant had the glass. It almost seemed as if they did it on purpose.Either they only had two of the glasses and not the others. Or they had none. I found it hard to believe that they didnt anticipate that people would buy these and order appropriately. Now Im stuck with an incomplete set. GREAT! I dont know why but I just liked them and would've liked to have them all. Now I have finally accepted the fact that I was unable to get the Puss in Boots glass. SO I THOUGHT the saga of the Shrek glasses was over. They won. NOT This morning as I was logging on I noticed the large headline on Yahoo regarding they are recalling the SHREK glasses because of cadmium. As I began reading the article it all began to make sense. THey've known about the cadmium so they didnt order anymore glasses so they wouldnt lose money. What about us? You know its not going to be that easy to get a refund. What gets me is they kept it quiet until they had their affairs in order. What if someone died as a reaction of this cadmium? OOPS Im sorry thats not good enough. It clearly states in the article that they are not worried about it really hurting people. THey stated that even though they dont worry about them hurting people they still thought a refund is best. Ok so how do we get one? Im so mad I could spit! I really liked McDonalds. I just wanted to get a set of glasses and go on about my business. Now im going to not only never have Puss in Boots glass. Now I have to give back the others. Im awaiting the instructions on how to go about the return. I bet you it will end up costing me more than its worth. Between postage and time. Heck Im keeping my glasses. Any one going to return them. If so, you want to sell your Puss in Boots? Hey dont criticize me I just want my glass. lol You know what they say. Its A dog eat dog world. AND we need to watch out because we're all wearing milk bone underwear! Words to live by my dears. dl

How, of all products, were they able to have these particular checked for such chemicals? We know that there are several plastic glasses and drinking mugs that have harmful chemicals in them but nobody went to the extent of having these goods checked. Is it perhaps a misunderstanding between McDo and the producers or makers of the glass? Well, sometimes things like this can have some benefits.

Perhaps the subcontractors tried to be greedy by looking for cheaper alternatives to create the glasses. But still, how come it was brought out to the public without testing it first? Another would be the possibility that they didn't really think that it would be harmful (it was even said that it didn't really matter) but perhaps someone on the legal board decided that they shouldn't take the risk after-all they are serving kids and you know the lawsuits like that.

Hey Laydee! I havent heard much about it anymore. I did ask how to go about the return process just to be curious. Im not returning them. If they were dangerous they would've have been much more aggressive in trying to get them back. It just makes me mad because I dont collect much stuff but I liked the way these glasses looked. For one they were glass not plastic. What upset me is that they never had the full set at any one store. As I said they're not stupid. Happy MyLotting dl

Whoah! That was downright sneaky for them to do that. Hmm.. if it's not really life-threatening, how come they're recalling the product?

From what I read, they are recalling them because there is a presence of cadmium. Supposedly its not a worrying for humans. They were recalling them as a nice thing to do. Yeah right something is up. dl

Yeah, I agree, I think it's for the protection of the company before future actions or counter-actions would be made by people who would be affected by such a chemical.

They are using any banned junk they can find to kill off the Americans. China is using our own gred for cheap goods, and we are paying for our own deaths. When we stop getting goods from China, only then will we finally fimd out most of our cancers and desesaes came from the junk we buy.

Leave it to big corporations like this to find a way to mess with the peons. I am sorry this happened to you. Keep these glasses. They could be worth a mint one day seeing as they recalled them. I bet there are people who collect all this stuff and would pay some serious money for a set.

That's insane. From what i remember it is toxic and they do not think it is important? How about the bad publicity on the movie makers involved in the making of the movie? They need to rethink who they are giving their licensing to , if they do not feel it is bad for humans/

They have actually recalled the glasses because of toxic paint in them. I was really disappointed, I wanted those glasses. I'd hang onto them if I were you, and don't use them! But the original, recalled glasses are going to be wanted for some sick reason

i wouldn't return them..i'd just put them away somewhere so they won't be touched. i'm sure the missing ones will turn up on ebay from overseas sales..10 to one they won't even check them for cadmium elsewhere.

Nuts..LOL..you beat me to this story about the Shrek Glasses...I had heard about this on the news late last night. I wouldn't bother returning the glasses either as it probably be more of a hassle...just show case them in a place safe--hope you can get the remaining one. I haven't eaten in McDonald's or any fast food place in ages. I too, also used to collect glasses long, long time ago during the Star Wars movie period (wow is that ever long ago)---wonder what kind of paint was used--I never drank out of them though...I just wanted to collect them

This reminds me of the Hello Kitty saga. That one had super long queues for the dolls and now with this news, I must say I'm surprised as this rarely happens. Don't know for the Mc'ds here in my country. But the latest glasses here are the World Cup one..looks fragile to me.

We live in the most lawsuit happy culture in the world. Roughly 15 million lawsuits are filed every year, which is 5% of the population. Most of what companies do has nothing to do with safety or some real danger. It's to avoid being sued. McDonalds if anyone, should know. Some girl dumped coffee on herself, and won a lawsuit. Come on... Sorry about not getting the glass you want. I'm sure they'll come out with a lawsuit friendly glass soon.

hi dloveli not hurting people oh my G cadmium is used in watches so I don not think it would be good for people to drink from the glasses. but of course you could have a set as keepsakes. maybe it would not hurt to drink from then but I would not take a chance. look on ebay as maybe someone is selling a set or at least the one you need to complete your set.Dloveli I would not think of critizing you at all, you love McDonald as do a lot of others, so just cause I dont like McDonalds 'doesnt mean you are wrong, thats just me and my own opinion..Yes it does seem to be a dog eat dog world and I love your phrase we[re all wearing milk bone underwear.great. lol lol.

Hey dl! WTF is right! I didn't hear anything about this! And only last week my neighbor had come over with her McDonalds meal and showed me her Shrek glass and was all happy about it! She couldn't believe that is was made of glass and how heavy it was! Well, no offense, but I am not a Shrek fan, so wasn't impressed! But, years ago when they had those Beanie Babies, I can't tell you how many "Happy Meals" I ate to get those!lol But, I wonder if she knows about this latest cadmium thing or if she drank from the glass! I figured most people just wanted them as a "keepsake", at least hopefully and weren't going to use them! I can't see a child lifting it because it is rather heavy! So, that is really awful! I don't blame you for wanting the "full set"! I would be that way too! So I wonder if the McDonalds here have stopped selling them too! I will have to see what I can find out! I will have to check and will get back to you after my investigation!

I would be more worried about the chemicals in the McDonalds food than what is in their glasses. I think they should do a recall on all of their food that they have sold as it is toxic. If they are prepared to give people McDeath, then they should also refund people their money for selling them this inferior food product!

Hi dlovely...... Its OK if you are going only collected the glass and not wear it to drink any thing. I hear cadmium give bad effect for your brain, its will be worse if baby or kids consume it. I hear they usually found it in color or pain. I find it usually hard to get refund, I usually just don't complain but I never in my life buy that product again. When I in high school we love to eat in McDonalds but now I find it not appetizing enough.

That's really bad. I wanted one of the Puss n Boots ones too. I got the Donkey one though. :) I love it. Donkey is one of my favorites. I don't understand why they announce that they were going to sell those, then the recall them. That makes no since to me. I mean, wouldn't they test them before they sold them?
