What is it with strings, especially when it's hanging? Cats really love playing with them. "boxing" them til they get tired. I bought a toy for our new kitty. It's a piece of elastic string that has 3 balls and 3 small bells forming a straight line hanging from it. It really drove our kitten mad. She was jumping and running after the toy like a mad-kitty. haha. She even did tuumblings! it's really funny

well my dogs is like that too. dunno why, maybe it resembles their mother's tail when they were young. Saw a lot of kittens play with their mother's tail.

I think they just need to play and the string provides a challenge for them that is fun for them. I just think they enjoy the challenge of it and the extra activity.

Maybe strings are representing snakes for kitten's and that's why they are so interested in them. My cat also likes strings, i have a toy that's a stick with rubber string and a mouse on the end and she goes crazy when playing with it.

Cats love things that resemble (in their minds) things they would find out in the wild. Strings that hang, are objects that they just have to have, because its like a worm or something to them. Our cats love strings and other such toys as well. though lately they've taken interest in other things as well. So hard to say really.
