I went to the local farmer's market yesterday and I couldn't leave without some of the wonderful vegatables and home baked goodies to be had there. Do you get to shop for locally grown foods?

In my country and my neighborhood there´s a sort of farmer´s market every Tuesday annd Saturday. They also bring other fruits but they buy it at different places than the fruit you get at the supermarket. The veggies and fruits are crispier, riper and nicer smelling. The whole outing is a wonder. The people who sell are traders who will call you: "What would you like today, my Lady?". You feel like royalty while you pick your tomatoes. I bring home my veggies and fruit in a bigger amount than what I buy at the supermarket because they tempt me. I know that afterwards I will have to do some homework putting food away to be used much later. Our farmers market is there all year around as our Winters are mild. They have a roof just in case it rains and they come in trucks and vans with big sacs and baskets to show their produce. I often say I will take my camera when I go, but I always forget. It´s beautiful!!!

I do go, but our farmer's markets don't open up until later this month. We try to get there every weekend, but at worst, we go every other week. Our market ahs a couple of organic growers and we mostly shop at their stands... they have great produce and we know that it is picked only one day earlier. Luckily for us, we do have a year-round vegetable stand in town, and their prices are very good compared to the grocery stores...but I'm looking forward to June 25th when the farmers market opens again

When I am at home and not working on the road, I do shop the Farmer's Market. I find some interesting things there. I really hope my own home garden is going to do well this year, though. I have all kinds of things planted and growing. I will be able to plant fall garden in August or September.

Our farmers market started out good, but now it's mostly crafts. I would rather have fresh tomatoes than store bought but the market wants to much for theirs. So I ended up planting my own. Maybe this year I will be selling at the market.

savypat hi Oh how I envy you now that I am stuck here having to eat the food they serve at Gold crest retirement center. oh yes if you have money and also good legs you can eat out and maybe get some of the healthy fresh food thats good for you .but I cannot walk very far as I have a bad foot and am on a heavy brace on that foot. there is a vietnamese grocery store within walking distance if you are a tad bit more healthy than I am. they tell me they really do sell fresh produce so maybe when things get better I can get my son to purchase a few things for me.

We are lucky that there are still a lot of great farms near where we live and I do make it a habit to try to get as much locally grown produce as possible. Two weeks ago I took my children to the strawberry patch and we picked our own strawberries. We also go and pick our own apples in the fall (and I simply have to get a gallon of local apple cider, so much better than the stuff that is really mass produced). I will visit the farmer's market several times during the summer and our neighbor is sharing some of her veggies with us this year as well.

Hi, Pat! In addition to the Farmer's Markets, there are many road-side stands manned by the local farmers. There are also several U-Pick fields. Sometimes, I go overboard, so I have to do a lot of cook-and-freeze dishes. Of course, those can come in very handy, too! Nothing beats farm-fresh!

Hi Saqvypat, Yes I do, we have a local farmers market here once a fortnight but I also use a local farm too to get my meat and veg and cheese and bread and bits. Living in a rural community I feel it is important to support and also much healthier and not far to travel so helping carbon footprint too. Huggles. Ellie :D

Good for you! Until my veggies are ready, I shop at a local farm here that has wonderful produce. I'll still go there for things I'm not growing this year, too. The great thing about this farm is that I buy from them all year and the first Saturday in October they have a free, all you can eat cook-out for their customers to show their appreciation. I never have more than 1 helping, though, because they are going above and beyond what I would expect from a business.

Darn farmer's market is Sunday mornings and I rarely get it in gear early enough to make it there. Sometimes we head up to Apple Hill (a grower's area) and buy produce there though.

Hey pat! I don't get to go into the city one up from me that often! They do have a Farmer's Market every Wednesday! I don't always know my schedule, but I haven't been up to that city on Wedesday in awhile! And this Market is quite expensive. I don't know why, but, they seem to raise the prices quite a bit! This city is the "Business District" and I think that the Market Owners know that these people that live and work there are wealthy and maybe that is why they charge so much! So, even when I do go there I very rarely buy anything and it is ashame because they have lovely fresh baked goods and produce, but at unheard of prices!

I do since I live in the country, so we just stop at the farmers house and we buy the veggies they have to sell. Sometimes you can get baked goods depending if the goods are available or not. One woman makes delicious apple cakes, but I have to wait till October to buy those. We dont have big markets as I live in a small village but I'll go to a big one in Montreal and then come back with so much food, I could feed an army lol. Sounds like you had a nice day yesterday, so what did you buy exactly? Oh do share with us

It is so easy to do that at a farmers market. We are lucky here, there are a few road side stands in our area. Their even some that have a small table out for just one or two types of vegetables. One has the best tomatoes earlier than ours and reasonable.
