When I was a teenager, one of my favorite movies was Crocodile Dundee, do you remember that movie??? Mick Dundee(Paul Hogan) was so funny to me. I found Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles on DVD and my kids really enjoyed watching it. I really want to find the original Crocodile Dundee though. Did you ever watch these movies? Did you enjoy them as much as I did?

I remember watching them when I was a kid. I don't think either of my kids have watched them though. I know I watched the first one more times than the second one. It was better in my opinion. I do like the scene in LA where someone tries to mug him with a little knife and he says, "You call that a knife. That's not a knife. THIS is a knife." and pulls out a huge knife.

If you've met Paul Hogan today, he'll tell you that this is the number one line people say to him whenever they meet him :-)
We also apply it to just about anything we use or do down here when it's a bit better than average; eg. "that's not an eraser, THIS is an eraser"!

We were actually just talking about Crocodile Dundee a few weeks ago with my brother and parents. As I recall, it was quite hilarious, I could never forget that scene where he was cooking some type of a reptile (I forgot what that was) and the lady-friend he was with ate it as said that it was good, then he replied: Oh I don't know about that I don't eat those things. Then he opens himself a canned corned beef or something.
It was funny!

I was really young when I saw them but I do remember some parts and they were very funny. Everyone remembers the bit with the mugger where he says "you call that a knife?" And there was bit I think was in the second film where there's a guy who's going to jump off a ledge on a tower block and he just casually strolls round the corner as if he's going for a walk and manages to talk him out of it. You see a lot of jokes on shows like family Guy about how Paul hogan just disappeared after the films and you hear nothing about him now. I sometimes wonder what happened to him as well, I imagine he made enough money from the movies to live comfortably and just retired.

I remember that one... he was "on lunch break", liked the air up that high & asked the jumper to get a move on!
Paul did a few more movies after his best ones (one & two), like Strange Bedfellows, for example, which he shouldn't have done, because now he's in a lot of trouble with the taxman here. Here's the news today:

Yes, I remember. I did enjoy them. I remember one scene where they are at some public event and she is clear down the line from him and they are trying to carry on a conversation. It was comical.

Hex ya I do! "That's not a knife. Now that's a knife." I remember seeing something on tv about aussies complaining that "Stupid american's" thought australians talked like that. Um hello you do!

I didn't see that one. I know I talk a lot like he does, but most "Aussies" populate our cities & their dialect, the words they use & the way they use them doesn't resemble Paul Hogan's much at all. You may not pick it unless you've spent a few years living & working down here. Rural Australians speak a little differently from city folk. But I guess from an American point of view, you'd be right.

I thought Crocodile Dundee was a great movie. I like the way this Australian guy showed no fear of the criminals in New York. It is hard to imagine he being afraid and I loved the sort of naivity he portrayed. Have watched and enjoyed the film a few times.

you can even be friends with him on face book, i am. i think the profile pic is him and linda, it's one from the dundee movies.
the new aussie movie he's done charlie and boots is not quite as funny as others he's done, but he's still the same point blank bloke.

Hi singlemommy yes I really enjoyed Crocodile Dundee so much.
I wish we could get a dvd and play it here at Gold Crest as I
think a lot of residents would remember it and enjoy
seeing it again. I know I would like to see it again.

Oh yes, I remember those movies, I don't know how many times I've watched them. I enjoyed them too, once in awhile they'll still come on tv.

They were fun movies with just enough suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. I enjoyed them.

The first Crocodile Dundee was brilliant and it proved how far Paul Hogan has come! I remember watching The Paul Hogan show on Australian TV where he started out as a comedian. He used to work on the Sydney Harbour bridge construction until he did some funny interview for a current affair show that got him ‘discovered’. He was excellent in ‘Dundee’. I originally saw the film at the movies and saw it several times since; I still laugh! “That’s not a knife...This is a knife!”
