When England played their first game against America about 1.5million HDTV viewers in Britain missed the first Goal and instead were left watching an advert for a car instead of seeing Steven Gerrard put England into the lead.
Today it is being alleged that this could have been a gambling scam as there are thought to have been about a dozen gamblers who betted on an ITV game being interrupted at 8-1 odds from Paddy Power, as the HD channel is slightly behind 'normal' TV it is thought that somebody 'pulled the plug' on purpose!!

Wow! I have heard of all kinds of betting scams around sporting events, but this is something really novel. Thankfully it does not involve any one directly involved with the game and is more related with the media coverage alone. But I am surprised what all people bet on these days!!
Cheers!

People will find a way to undermine the system and gamble illegally. I can only hope it is not so, but I guess you could be right.
