What to put on your salad

I am very picky about my salad dressings. Over the years I have found dressings that I liked for a while and then after a while get tired of them and want something new or else, for some reason they just don't taste the same and I don't like them anymore. Maybe my taste buds are changing as I age? At any rate, I have found that I can be creative with my dressings and that gives me any number of choices in my flavors. Recently I started remembering a creamy dill dressing I had at a restaurant many years ago. The store doesn't carry any creamy dill but they do have a mix for a dill dip. I purchased the Hidden Valley Harvest Dill mix. The directions call for sour cream but I found that I could use mayo and add a few veggies such as a tomato and some bell peppers and whip it up in the blender for a thinner dressing rather than the thicker dip. I love waxing creative. A few years ago a friend gave me the recipe to a house dressing from one of the local restaurants and after making a few adjustments, I have perfected the flavor. Let me share with you what I finally came up with. Fiddlehead House Dressing Modified 3 green onions 1 large tomato 1/4 cup safflower oil 1/4 cup vinegar (you can use different vinegars for different flavors. I like the wine vinegars as they have a milder flavor. The original recipe called for cider vinegar.) 1 cup mayonnaise (I use the light mayo, not the fat free as the fat free has a totally different texture that I don't really like. You can use regular, of course.) 1 bell pepper Just whip it all up in your blender. For a thicker, creamier dressing, add sour cream to taste. Hope you all enjoy. Bon Appetit!

I love the asian salad dressings, especially the ginger ones. I also like to add shaved almonds and sunflower seeds to give it that extra crunch and protein. Kids love it too.

Yes, I like those things, too, on occasion. There was a lady who brought a salad to these open dinners at one of our local churches once. She added the slivered and dry roasted almonds and they really added something to the whole salad. YUMMY!!!

Prepare a vinaigrette with little oil, vinegar, salt pepper, some herbs and mayonnaise mix all well and pour on the salad its really nice n.b: u can also replace tuna with boiled chicken or fried fish

Sounds interesting. I prefer my cauliflower raw, though...love the crunch...and I like to chop it ultra-fine. Never used to eat it at all. My mom used to boil up cauliflower and broccoli and I could never get them past my nose! heeheeheeee (furby laugh)

I put on hard-boiled eggs which are a really good protein source as well as chicken or salmon if I'm having a Caesar salad. I also put dressing on every salad I ever eat. French is my favorite. If I have them I will add carrots, peppers, mushrooms, and sometimes ham. In a salad is the only way I like to eat ham except for my every six months to a year craving for a ham sandwich. I often also add cheese.

I used to make "kitchen sink" salads and put literally every kind of fresh veggie I could lay my hands on in the salad. I loved putting the baby peas and kidney beans, too, which are good sources of protein for a salad, as well. Also, when making a taco salad, I save on the fat and put salsa on rather than dressing. I used to have salad for lunch every day when I was younger and had the energy and money to walk to the store and hit their salad bar. I love salads!

So do I...and I love bacon bits but only if they are real and TASTE real. The best bacon bits I've found are the Hormel brand. Highly recommended!

I always make my own salad dressings. The only helper I use is Hidden Valley Ranch for that dressing. Taste buds do change as we age. You sure have "waxed creative" on this dressing you have shared with us. Many thanks. I need something new in my repetoire. I'll write again after I've tried it.
