This is a photo of some of the blooms starting on my green bean plants. I can them each year and still have one quart jar from last year left. I love them in soups especially. What do you use your fresh green beans for? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Somewhere I have a recipe for dilled green beans. They are really good. I will have to get some recipe books out and find this one that I got from my mom.

Is there a refridgerator version Gerty? I have no idea how to pickle / canning but I think perhaps this would be a way to get my kids to try more veggies KWIM?

This will be the first time in about fifteen years that I have had bean plants. I am looking forward to steaming them or sauteing them and eating all that I can. I like to freeze them, and like you, I find them to be great in soups.

They look great. I don't like green beans, but that is probably because I've only had green beans out of the can.

As I've mentioned before, I grow the yellow wax beans. And I still have some in the freezer from last year. I should eat them soon, I guess.

I usually use green beans in caseroles, soup, or as a side to a meal.

Hi Grandpa Bob oh yes they are great in soup and when I was still in my own apt. and doing my own cooking I would toss some in my beef stew also as that would up our veggies servings for the day. I did like to have my veggies , here they usually give us those frozen mixed vegetable combos which are okay, but I kind like my veggies one by one really. In soups or stews that's a different story as they all add more flavor and more vitamins too to the mix.

I like them as a side dish as well as in soups and stews. A German friend showed me how they served them with onions, vinegar and water and salt and pepper and that's really good when the weather is hot. My green beans aren't blooming yet this year, but they're coming along.

When lived on the farm we canned them or cooked them over a fire in fireplace till done some of them would scorch I liked them so now I have figured out how to scorch them in a pot or frying pan on the stove and my kids love them that way

I usually use them in stir fry's or caseroles. Haven't thought much about what else to make with them as I usually use canned when I make tater tot caserole though. I guess I should read others responses for further ideas.

I like the texture of canned better than fresh, but if I have fresh, I'll cook them in vegetable soup or stew, with a ham and some potatoes for a one pot meal, or even in our green bean and hamburger "goulash". But, my daughter can taste that they were fresh and won't eat them if she can tell. So, obviously, I don't get to use them often.

They are very beautiful, Bob. Are they the bunching type or the trailing ones? How many plants do you have each year. I don´t plan to can them but I surely will eat lots in salads, omelettes and a very nice spanish dish where you make a soup with bones or chicken carcass and then boil there every veggie you have at hand. I put potatoes, carrots, squash, zuchinni, green beans (just pinch off the ends)sweet peppers, corn. The soup can be thickened with corn meal, rice or pasta. The rest is placed at the table while still warm. You can also have salads on the side or other veggies that I like to cook separatly (like cawliflower or broccoli). It´s wonderful and very healthy.
