I was talking with my partner a few days ago and we were talking about funny things that we did when we were younger, and he told me of a story about realising for the first time recently how street lights were turned on and off. He used to believe that there was someone somewhere who flicked a switch and all the lights in the city would come on, not that they actually are either on a timer or light sensor....obviously! It reminded me of a story when I was 15 and I first understood how you get pregnant. When I was little my friend told me that you get pregnant by a man touching you, I didn't fully understood and took this to mean any skin contact would do (thinking about this now, if that were the case people would be getting pregnant all the time and a simple hand shake could "seal the deal"). I was very careful to avoid any contact with any boy for fear of getting pregnant, until one day when I was 15 a boy who realised I don't like to be touched put his hand on my shoulder and held it there. I was shocked and terrified that I was going to have a baby and would be checking every month to make sure my period was not late (yeah, I know, my period has started but I also unfortunately didn't fully understood it's "terms and conditions" :p) It took me 3 months to realise: 1. I was not pregnant 2. I never will get pregnant that way 3. How stupid I had been to think that for so long, and how I regret for ignoring the boy I like the year before that :-( I know this story is kind of silly but this is one of my most unforgettable memory. And everyone is silly before they become clever anyway and that is why we learn to be clever. Do you guys have any similar stories?

I think I had a similar experience...my cousins sort of corrupted me during elementary school. Anyways they brainwashed me into thinking once you date a guy, you will get pregnant hence I rejected guys throughout 7th grade even guys I've liked (good thing, I am too young to be dating). Though by the end of 7th grade, one of the guys I rejects, also my friend, asked me why I rejected. I told him about what my cousins told me. He laughed really hard and told me that was a joke. Then he and I met my cousins, and my cousins told me they were lying. My friend then asked me again, then I said yes. Thanks to him, I knew how much of what my cousins say influence me.

yeah, some people or especially our friend tend to lie to us about something, and then forgot to clear it after that. I was done a lot about different issues by my friends when i was a teen too. one of it was about rainbow. they said, when the rainbow is out, you must never point your finger to it, or your finger will get rotten. if you did, you must spit on your finger quickly!!! haha! i thought it was very stupid, but i was very scared not to believe too.so, it was raining one day when i went back to village. after the rain stopped, my mum asked me to go to the farm with her. my little brother came too. when he realised the rainbow was out, he quickly told us to see it, and he was pointing at it at the same time. i hit his hand and forced him to spit on his finger. my mum asked why, so i told her what my friends told me and she said no, it's not true.

by the way, it was lucky for you that the guy waited and even asked you why. after finding out the truth about the getting pregnant thing, the guy i liked already has a girlfiend which was also one of my class mate.

o kodukodu, no that's not stupid, that is really so sweet because of the innocence... naivete is not a bad thing, it is an honesty where you take everything on face value until such a time as you know differently. . my mum bless her was so naive that she thought when she was pregnant that the midwife would untie her navel and the baby would come out! personally that sounds more horrific than reality, but it is sweet in its own way!

thanks wendy :-) that was nice of you. honestly if your mum did think like that all the way till her first delivery, then i can imagine how her heart been pounding for 9 months!! Oh, must be painful :-( anyway, i hope she did knew the right way before the delivery, otherwise, now i must ask you if she did expect the midwife to untie her navel for real...:-)

your story is funny,my friend! i guess you always post funny ones,i like it! yeah, most of us when we are younger we always believe in such things, but i don't have anything to share here. i only remember i had a weird experience when i was in high school.let me tell you my story, i have visited to my godmother together with my mother, then i went to restroom where i have been trapped by my godmother's son,he was touching his "thing" and whispering something to me,he's asking for s** i guess,i was shocked cause he was like in grade school that time and i'm in high school.what the hell is this boy talking about? well,at first i was scared but thank god,my godmother has stopped her son for doing such thing, crazy boy i can say. you know what,he is now a father.and i think he's just 19,such people!

This reminds me of when I was little and we used to sing "Silent Night". I never really understood the lyrics till I was an adult. Specifically when it mentions "Round yon virgin". I thought it meant the round virgin...that she was round due to her pregnant belly. In reality it's meaning that All is calm and bright AROUND the virgin, not that the virgin is round. I obviously didn't understand what a virgin was until many years later. I used to think it was a pregnant lady. LOL

Well, you know how children just accept what they are taught and don't question. I didn't have any clue so I just sang the song sweetly, if ignorantly. lol
