Four years after hysterectomy...Not missing it.

After my hysterectomy my doctor tried putting me on hormones. She thought they would help, but they did not. I discovered that my symptoms were not the result of the surgery, but a side-effect of another medication I was on. She kept insisting on having me take those hormone pills but I finally just chucked them and have never looked back. Prior to surgery, the pain I was in was beyond reason due to some cysts I had. Of course, I always had pain with my monthly cycles as do so many women. Now I watch my daughter going through it and think, boy! Do I NOT miss that! In fact, I miss nothing about "Aunt Flow". Nor do I feel any less a woman. Any other women out there feel like me, that their hysterectomy was the best thing that ever happened to them? Or am I just weird?

I did not have hysterectomy, but my change was sure a blessing. It was difficult the first year as i had hot flashes every hour and therefore i got very little sleep. One doctor put me on that crap too. The cramps were terrible, but another doctor put me on something else that helped and i then eased off them and am so happy not to have to fight with the pain and such.

I'm glad the meds helped you. My hot flashes and sweats were being caused by my anti-depressant, as well as spontaneous bruising and leg pain so I really never needed those hormones. Sometimes doctors can be so oblivious.

I totally agree. Less is definitely more when it comes to putting chemicals in our bodies in the guise of "meds". I was once on 13 pills per day and miserable. Then I figured out that part of my "symptoms" that I was taking pills for were actually side effects from some of the pills I was taking! Now I take about four per day and feel much better, thank you very much!
