Rascal Flatts is NOT Country Music!

Ok, is anyone else with me on this one? I mean, of COURSE they're talented, I wouldn't try to dispute that, but they're NOT Country Music. They are POP songers, adding just a little bit of twang and a fiddle, and trying to pass it off as Country Music. I have no problem with male singers who sing with higher pitched voices. One of my favorite bands is Maroon 5. But Maroon 5 is a Pop, Rock, Soul and Funk band, and that's what they SAY they are! Why can't rascal Flatts just admit that they are a Pop band? I think that then, honestly, maybe that would make their music just a little more bearable for me. Is anyone else with me on this one? Anyone else tired of people in your music that SHOULDN'T be there?!?

Country music isn't the same as the 80's and 90's either. No matter what type of music, the artist are always looking for the different beat that no one has been ever heard. Don't waste your energy on bands you don't like, it's not healthy.:) But I do agree with you. I'm not a Big N Rich fan either. I just avoid them. (When I can.)

I agree...Rascal Flatts is not the 'traditional' country music of a few years ago, but I do believe they fit into the catagoty of country rock. This is not a new catagory. I think one of the first groups to be recognized as a country rock group was Alabama. Their unique sound got them a long way. On another note (no pun intended), along with the 'sound' of the music, lyrics play a bit part in the classification process. No other gendre of music has lyrics like country.

I guess I'm just jaded because I'm trying to be a Country Singer, and I don't like what I hear anymore on the radio, so therefore I'm trying to stay away from it all. Thanks for the reply!

I think I'm a little bias as Rascall Flatts is one of my favorite bands. I feel that they are country because if you compare them to the newer country singers they have more of that swing. Pop isn't really close to country. Pop is Christina Agulera and Britney Spears and boy bands. Maroon 5 is a rock band they've always been considered that. Now you want a group that passes musical lines it's Pillar. They are rock and spiritual. When you listen to them though you can put multiple meanings to their songs and not all having to do with religion and spiritual ideas.

i DON'T THINK ANY OF THE MUSIC THE SO CALLED COUNTRY SINGERS SING NOWADAYS IS WHAT I CALL COUNTRY MUSIC. It all sounds like pop to me. I am so disappoined in carrie underwood's change in her music. Look at leann rhimes nothing she has sung since 'blue' has sounded country to me. I didn't even watch the award show the other night because i don't enjoy their personation of country music. I wish they wouldn't allow it & make them get back to real country music.

Frankly, Diamond Rio isn't really country if Rascal Flatts isn't. I have heard a bit of their music and some of it I like while other stuff is too twangy for me and definitely country! And let's not forget the greats like Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, which is mainly country but a lot of crossover. As for Country Rock, The Eagles defined that genre and Rascal Flatts does not fall into that slot, either. Personally, I think Rascal Flatts is mainly country with a few crossovers. Country has such a wide range to it these days. It's no longer Hank Williams, Patsy Cline and Dotty West. We have acts like Martina McBride who is probably more country than, say, Trisha Yearwood. Alan Jackson is about as pure country as you can get these days - his songs remind me a lot of the country of the 60s - but let's face it. A lot of country these days has elements of folk, rock and easy listening. I avoid categorizing my music too much because so many of the lines blur. Personally, I can't handle Alan Jackson but I can handle Rascal Flatts and I don't care what label they put on their music anymore than I do anyone else I listen to. It's all a pretty moot issue but fun to toss around. I, too, welcome you to mylot, shace. Hope your time here is fun and enlightening.

Thank you for your reply. I agree; Country isn't what it used to be, and more often than not, I do embrace it. But only certain infused elements get me riled up! LOL I like Country/Rock, and definitely Bluegrass thrown into anything, but I'm worried on the influence that Pop and Urban music will have on what Country is right now. Thank you again for your reply! MyLot so far has been pretty fun. Thank you. -Shace
