Well, lets start with the bad news.
My geek had to send my new computer off to Temple to be repaired, its that seriously messed up.
The good news...
Well, she's loaning me a lap top.
Lets watch Elic learn to deal with that track pad... YIKES!
At least I don't have to worry about the roomie getting off her computer to let me check my email and respond to mylot!
What was your first take on a different type of keyboard/mouse or non-mouse as the case may be?

when i first saw a trackpad on a laptop I was unsure how to use it becase I only knew of the mouse or currsor buttons. I was then shown how and was amazed how easy it was.

Hey Elic! I have my computer guys refurbished laptop, but he
still hasn't got the software for the router to set it up yet!
But, I know it is going to be really hard for me to get used
to it since I seem to only be able to work my PC! And we are
planning to sooner or later get me a new PC because this one
is 4 or 5 years old at least! And I don't take to change really
well! But, I at least want the laptop up and running just in
case! I want a backup because I've already had a week without
a computer and it was hell! I'm still trying to decide if I
do go to Florida and it is up and running if I should take it
with me because if I can't "steal" a signal and I drag that
heavy azz thing with me I'm going to be very upset! I hope
your computer is fixed soon!

Thanks, yeah, are you staying some place or going to catch as catch can?
most McDonalds around here have WiFi, maybe there too
My PC is only a few months old, but I seemed to have caught a nasty bug masquerading as a windows update
I am having to learn the touch and layout of the laptop...

I will be staying at my Mom's house. I think that I have a possible
shot at getting a signal in her neighborhood if her neighbors
haven't go their computers locked! I can only hope, but like I
said it is a long shot and with the luggage fee's I'm just not
sure what I'm going to do. As soon as my "computer guy gets back
from his vacation he is either going to get me a different router
or get the right software! I need to have use of this laptop,
otherwise him giving it to me is worthless!

I love my mouse, however am using a laptop as primary computer so had to learn that silly pad. Initially I didn't like it at all, in fact, I bought a mouse to plug in. The mice kept dying so now I use the built in pad. It is OK, I still have troubles with it.
Hope your geek gets your computer back real soon. I use my laptop because I sit in the TV room with Hubby, surf and watch TV.
My laptop sits in my lap.

My computer is already in the same room with both my TV and my sewing machine
all I have to do to use one or the other is to turn my chair. its easier to see the TV from my computer, the TV is currently over the top of the laptop screen, but it isn't on right now...
I wish I could've gotten my mouse to work... no such luck

I don't think you are too old, hey - my 70 yr old mother learned to use the computer and a lot of the old folks at mom's have computers.
Never say never - just the track pad is a bit of a pain, but it is safer for a laptop than a ball...

It's great that you have replacement laptop.
I use a laptop too and I have this wireless mouse to make my life easier. I can survive with just the touch pad but it would definitely take me longer.
Which reminds me. I have to give my laptop to my favorite technician for a day so that he can reformat it. I can use my hubby's laptop but the keyboard would definitely feel weird.
Cheers!

So that's why my cursor flies all over the place and my sentences get messed up. I didn't know why this was happening. Think I'll get a mouse before we go on vacation. I surf while hubby drives.

A few years ago I made the permanent switch from desktop to laptop. Personally I hate the pad as opposed to a mouse. You can plug a mouse into the usb port and use it on the laptop just like on a desktop. I just find it much more comfortable than using the darn pad.

You may have to install the mouse first. I know most mouses(?) come with a CD of software. Try that.

Well Elic I have to be honest I was a bit scared when I first went over to a Laptop and it took me a while to get used to it to be honest but now I would not want to go back to a Desk Top
But I do find when ever I do use a different one it takes a bit to getting used to

The touch pad on my first laptop barely got used. I felt awkward and clumsy with it and it was not long before I swiped the mouse from my desk top to use with the laptop. I'm using my second laptop now and the same thing...except I plugged in the mouse straight away. LOL.
My daughter uses a laptop and she is very proficient when using the touch pad...she does it all day so I suppose you get better with practice but why would you when a mouse is so convenient?

I wasn't very good at using a laptop style mouse pad at first but you soon get the hang of it, I still use a clunky old PC at home and at work. At the moment I'm hoping I can pay my phone bill or they will cut off my Internet access at home. Then I will be in trouble as I will have no way of making any extra money. Not that I'll even reach payout here this month the rate I'm going, not mnay good discussions to respond to today I'm finding.

I have a PC at home, currently in the shop, the roomie can't use a laptop - the keyboard makes the screen too far away for her...
I find that if I can start a few good discussions as well as respond to others it helps to make payout
of course, I have to be able to get on line first!!!!

i'm not a big fan of those built-in laptop mice.
it's almost impossible to do detailed graphic work with them.
i usually end up disabling them in the comp and plugging my USB mouse in.

I don't like the track pads! They are difficult to master, you need a very light touch. I could if I had to but I prefer a mouse. My dad has a nice laptop with a 17" screen--he says don't buy one that big, it takes too much power so the batteries don't last long before needing recharging--but finally gave up on the track pad and got a mouse.

You will get used to it. That is wonderful that you will have a computer while yours is getting fix.
Take care

Hi Elic, So pleased that you have a computer to use exclusively for you why it is being repaired, I cannot get on with the pad so I attach a mouse to my notebook ifever usingthat because the first time I used my daughters laptop when stayuing with her I struggled with it. I like a computer that I can sit at. Huggles. Ellie :D

I have a desktop and when my husband bought me my very own laptop I loved it but it did take a little getting used to! I missed the numbers pad on the right hand side and the track pad was tricky! I bought a cordless mouse which I use with my laptop because even though I finally mastered the track pad I prefer a mouse. It is great that you have been lent the laptop so you can still be active. Don’t worry you will get used to it. Whenever I go back to the desktop I find it strange to use now!

You will get used to it eventually. Hopefully though, you will have your computer back before you have time to get used to it. You are lucky she is lending you something in the meantime, even if it is a little different from what you are used to.
