First Aid for Children

I dont mean sending your child to learn first aid (though that is a brilliant idea and if anyone knows how to go about this and at what age a child can take a course in first aid please let me know!) what I do mean is have you taken a first aid course specifically designed in the first aid for treatment of children? Since having my daughter I have been meaning to go and do a course though sad to say with something so important, I have not found the time yet. I did a first aid course which I renewed a few years back though I do believe it is out of date now and that was aimed generally whereas a child specific course would go into more details on helping a child who is hurt. Children can get into all sorts of accidents and learning a bit of first aid may save a life. I know the basics like resucitation though I am hoping to go and learn more just in case. Has anyone taken a course of this kind or do you want to? Have you ever had to put your learning into practise? What are your thoughts on this subject?

Hi elfbwillow Welcome to mylot I am a retired professor, have taught in colleges for over 44 years, undergoing a training in 'First aid' was essential , so i did it in 1968, i know how to give first aid and have enjoyed giving it during sports and other activity in college.. It is a traing of 2 days, i think every man woman should undergo the training and keep a first aid box in home.. Thank you so much for this post. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead. First aid training is really important. I am an instructor on emergency care courses and I really find the need for everyone to learn such. Of course, for children, they could be given some lessons that are appropriate for their age. You will never know the need for first aid. May it be at home, in the workplace, or outdoors, there is always a chance of an accident and such training would certainly be useful.

I've never taken a first aid course that was geared specifically at the first aid needs of children. However, I worked in the medical field for several years when my daughter was small and as a part of that I had to be certified to perform CPR and they did teach us CPR specifically for children and we did also have to have training in first aid as well and though it wasn't geared at children, I did know how to applywhat I'd learned to children.

a first aid course for parents are really important...first aid can help you prepare for any simple emergencies at home, but the important part is they teach you to spot potentially life-threatening conditions... the first aid to be used and how to go about it in a household setting... its both life changing and life-saving.
