Well, two more cats have found their way to our doorstep. These are both males, full grown and emaciated! It breaks my heart to see how thin they are. I cannot afford to be taking in all the strays in the neighborhood! But at the same time I can't stand to see them suffer. I guess I'll have to start doing some fundraising soon or I won't be able to feed these things much less get them altered! And I DO want to get them altered!

I'm sorry to hear that, alaskanray, it is tough. Are they friendly anyway - the few strays we've had around here have been so feral I can't get close. I did trap the Mama last year and her 3 kittens. They are now all fixed, Mama is living at a horse barn and we are looking for a barn for the kittens, not so kitten anymore, they are a year old.

I hope so, because my wallet is FLAT! I cashed out my paypal and gave it all to the vets!

LOL...I hear you. Well, I found a home for Boo Bear today so we are back to four cats in the house. Spooky is still a little nervous but time will work its magic. Archie went back outside...he didn't want to be in the house...and I have someone interested in my work who is keeping me in mind when he wants another cat. I'm gaining a reputation for the work I do so eventually maybe I'll be able to do some fundraising.

Its nice of you to take in and treat strays. I wish I could help you, but I can't. I wish you luck in finding a way to feed them, but strays come up way too much. Perhaps you should find a way to draw the line and say 'stop' as hard as it sounds.

I feel like I've been called to this work. I do limit what I do to what I am able to. When I am able to do something, I do it. When I can't, then I don't.

hello alaskanray, You mean neutered, right? i think they will die before you could raise such money, just give them immediately of what you have there. like me, i give viands and rice to cats who are already thin due to months of not being able to eat. wow how i wish i had a cat in front of my house, yes i did but she didn't last long like her child.

Altered is the correct term. Neutered applies only to males, spayed only to females, altered to both equally. But, yes, that's what I'm talking about. I could get the money together in a matter of weeks but I'm thinking it would be kinder to just put them down. I don't have the money to get them healthy and they are in really bad shape. I don't know what to do at this point. I hate to see them like this. It just hurts too much. Yeah, yeah...I'm a softy!

I understand, every time I see a stray I want to rescue it. Do you have any friends that would be interested in adopting one of the strays?

The trouble is that in this small town the cats far out number the number of homes available to take them in. I live in a community that does not alter their pets near enough to avoid overpopulation and there is a huge population of stray and feral cats. I come from a town where we had a good animal control program in place so this is really hard for me to take. I do what I can but the need is so great that I feel like I'm drowning in quicksand sometimes. I currently have four cats that I have taken in and that is too many for my budget. Now these two new ones plus the female that has been hanging around all spring are really stressing me out. I'm going to have to do something to bring in some funds so that I can do my work here. The local government is absolutely worthless on the subject! GRRRRR!
