Have you ever seen any astronomic spectacles in your life?

What I mean is by your own eyes, not through TV, video or other similar devices. Of course telescope isn't included. I desire to watch total sun eclipse, annular eclipse of sun, meteor shower, and other cosmic spectacles. But till now I have only seen partial eclipse of sun for once. There used to be a very good chance which is in July, 22nd 2009, a total sun eclipse covered across a large area in south China, but I had an important field work in Beijing at that time so I missed the change. I am so regretful whenever I remember this. So, do you have interest in celestial spectacles? Have you ever seen any? Did you give up any chances of watching one spectacles because of other thing you had to do at the time?

I have seen a total eclipse of the sun when I was in school, wow it was AWESOME!! I also saw the northern lights or aurora borealis when we moved to this house here about 14 yrs ago. We sat in the backyard around 3PM and just looked at those lights dance in the sky.....I'll never forget it. We also look at the shooting stars every year. We drive to a country road with no lights about 10 mins from where I live, lay blankets on the hood of the SUV and just watch the best show on earth. Nothing man made can equal the beauty of the sky!!

Wow..How lucky you are! What I am desiring are all encountered by you. About aurora borealis, does it appear frequently? Can I see once if I take a week journey to Canada or Norway?

@ Richnai: Wow, thats really amazing, thanks for the link. The ones we saw at home werent in colors, only white. We live too far south to see the good ones. @Qianyun: you have to go way up North to see those. The ones we saw here at home were a one time thing I was told.

qianyun6 there is an eclipse of the moon at 3 oclock this coming morning but nobody here in this tiresome retirementcenter is allowed up that late. If only I was back in our own apartment I could get up at three and watch here in the US but alas they are such fuddy duddies they think old people want to sleep and rest all the time. how stupid. we are living human beings we have a right to see a spectacle like that.

i have seen a sun dog, meteor showers and eclipses but i need to go somewhere to see it. I find it really weird that even in midnight the houses are still bright and such. There are so many light noise that i cant even see some of the stars outside of my home.

Yes...I think I have seen meteor shower in 2002 or 2003. At first my sisters and I thought it was just an ordinary wishing star so we hurriedly made our wish but then we notice there was another one so we made another wish. But it didn't stop at two there were more shooting down. Since they were coming fast we had to stop making any wish and just enjoy the beautiful sight...It was wonderful and amazing!
