How do you like your rice cooked?

Filipinos have a lot of ways in cooking rice. I like my rice best steamed and served steaming hot. A remedy we do here when we have leftover rice from the night before is to fry the rice with lots of crisped brown garlic and seasoned with salt. In Chinese restaurants, we always go for a rice recipe they call Yang chow. This one is a variation of fried rice but had a lot of ingredients to it which includes meat and vegetables. One can eat this rice without a need for viand. In some areas of the country, rice is cooked in their traditional and customary ways. Sometimes, they are cooked inside the bamboo pole and sometimes exotic ingredients are added to previously cooked rice before packing in banana leaves to be cooked again. Hot steaming rice is good with any viand and I love it a little bit sticky. What about you, do you like eating rice? How do you like it cooked?

My sister is a very good cook and loves to cook Fillipino dishes. Honestly speaking I have never tasted it but everyone else in my family vouches of the good taste. She loves to try out recipes of different countries. I and my hubby do love our rice steaming hot. We order for fried rice though whenever we eat out.

I love rice and I love it's many variations. From the steamed white rice that I was raised on (my mom is Japanese), to herb and butter, or cheesy Parmesan, to fried rice (I often make it with bacon and left over white rice from the day before), or even rice in my soup. It's all pretty good to me :)

Hi Kedralynn, Rice in it's many variations are really worth trying but I always love mine plain and steamed because it doesn't get in the way of the taste of the viand you are eating it with. Thanks for the response. Have a nice day!

I love it the way they cook it at Chinese restaurants, I believe it is steamed, I can just eat it plain, that's how much I like it. I have a rice cooker here at my house and it pretty much cooks rice perfectly. Most of the time after I get it out of the rice cooker I will then place it in a wok pan with a little oil and stir fry it with some veggies and maybe some meat and some good teryaki sauce. I also like to just eat it with some butter on it and some Italian seasoning mixed in, it is so good.

Hi Ladym33, Chinese restaurants really do a good job at cooking rice. We share the same taste in eating our rice. My aunt who was in America for almost 40 years used to tell me, Americans prefer to eat salads and sandwiches but I'm sure anyone would love to eat rice especially when it's still steaming hot together with their favorite viand. Thanks for replying. Have a nice day!

I like it steamed and being a bit hard. Normally, I will eat without gravy and I don't wanna make it soggy by pouring soup on it. I don't mind eating fried rice or pineapple rice once a while.

Hi Sjlskl, That's quite something. I also know a few people one of whom is my mom, who prefers their rice cooked the way you like it too. I never enjoyed eating if my rice is very chewy or a bit hard because I need to exert more effort in chewing the food and I am having a hard time swallowing it so when they serve me rice cooked that way, I always add soup or broth or sometimes plain but previously boiled water to soften it before eating. Thanks for the reply. Have a nice day!

I live in Brazil and here we eat rice almost daily. I like my rice cooked traditionally, or sometimes, mashed and fried like cookies.

Hi Cleverson99, I've heard of bread made from rice flour but this is the first time I've heard something like mashed rice fried like cookies. Do you add something else to it as flavoring before frying or you just fry the plain mashed rice?
