Is the name more important than the person himself??

I sometimes wonder if a persons name is more important than his personality and his capability . The other day I met a relative who was telling me about her daughters problems. They had introduced their daughter to a young eligible bachelor boy who they hoped she would like and marry and he was introduced by his pet name and the couple seemed to like each other and parted hoping to keep in touch. But when the girl heard his real name which was quite funny sounding besides being very old fashioned ,she flatly refused to have anything to do with him. So I wonder whether ones name actually determines your destiny or gives you a standing in the society..what do you all think?...

Hi! I think the girl who rejected the boy in question, was not very wise. Rejecting someone on the basis of name is beyond me, she should have seen his other positive traits, which were at least visible. Most probably, no one gets an opportunity to select his/her own name, neither you nor me got an opportunity to choose our name, is not it? And it is also true that a person's character or personality has nothing to do with his name. Mukesh (Ambani) is one of the richest person, but all persons named Mukesh cannot be rich.

Yes deepak I agree with you.If the name is so very offensive one can change it i suppose !I also feel that there was probably more to it than just the name and she came up with that excuse - but name does have some importance and parents should take some care keeping all factors in mind while selecting a name for their children because they are stuck with it for their life...All the best deepak and have a great weekend ...

hi kiran, name is not the problem for any body i think,if they wish they can change their names, many persons changing their names after marriage and some after adaptation and some due to numerology,i think the original problem was not with the name, but some other different thing is there for rejection, have a nice day

Hi yugasini, name can be a problem in some cases especially if it sounds funny or emabarrassing.Thats why we get to see many people changing their names at a later date in their life after having gone through some difficult situations ..

Your name follows you for your entire life so, yes, it can have an effect on your standing in society. This is why I have always advised my friends not to give their daughters cutsie names since the child might want to be taken seriously as an adult.

Shakespeare said, "Whats in a name". Name does not make a differnce. Its you who make a difference. people may forget your name, but not your face.

True, but sometimes in life names become very important. One wouldnt want some great and well known personality to have a funny name .I have read that most film stars and other famous personalities change their names because some of the names were funny and dint rhyme well, or not grand enough !
