Why is it that only MEN seem to check their pant-zippers frequently. ... ?

In India, when most women used to wear a SAREE ... with a "pallu" to cover their breast assets.. .. they used to frequently adjust the COVER... when in company. . it is considered a unconscious behavior of women, .. to keep adjusting the saree line.. and, now, when they are into slacks, or jeans and shirts.. they don't have any special cloth to cover the shirt.. so they don't seem to bother .. DOING the adjustments.. but, I have frequently seen MEN.. including myself, CHECKING the zipper of pants.. as if the insides are dropped of at the previous stop. why is it that WOMEN don't seem to bother about the zippers?

hi consultrainer I guess maybe with the modern attire the woman feel that all is safely tucked in. I as an older woman deplore some of the styles of tops for us larger sized women in that the necklines are just a tad immodest to my taste. I mean older women really are not thinking of alluring men to them any more. they have been there and done that thank you very much; we just want a modest not old maidish neckline., we just dont want to reveal too much any more.,I mean a nice demure neckline would satisfy most of us elder women just fine.

oh. so , dear SV.. you do wear Jeans, and such men's wear? .. how modern are you? .. your answers seem to promote an orthodox image, of you.. though you are very young, .. but, now, with this answer, you seem to promote a modern image? quite confusing. Please clarify! ...

lol...oh my!! Did I come across as very conservative? Well, I'm not...though I'm not a risk taker either. Young??.....34 is young, right?:P I am quite modern in outlook (settled in India only since the last 10 years).....but I also understand about compromise and not really getting red flags up as far as Indian society is concerned...so I try to maintain a balance:)

Wait, wait. See my hand here. Pick me, I'm over here. Finally i know the answer to that one maybe because the man thing can jump out but the girl doesn't have anything to jump out. You know a man can't be too careful nowadays. His thing can jump out and give a girl a heart attack. Prevention is better than cure is what the always say.

well dear friend REN. welcome back. I did observe your hand.. but, only when you have raised it above all the din.... is it all because of the jumping john? ... sure of it? ... even old men like me, keep checking the zipper.. is that silly thing so unsure and, careless to just give out a peep or peeking view? ... I don't wish to agree with this.. THERE should be some reason... let us ask the ladies... why they don't bother to check their pant-zippers....

Welcome back ren it's so nice to see you around. I don't agree with the skirt hole and everything though. Sadly I really don't have an answer though. Will ponder some more.

It is good to be back. It is me again. I have one more idea. Maybe girls sometimes where skirt and that means under them or expose. This exposure leads them to not care so much for just a small zipper comparing to the big hole at the bottom of their skirts. While men are not use to those things. Just an idea. Nothing too big. Ok girls tell me because i really don't know.

At least I check my zippers often but I do it with my hand LOL. And I do it subtly (I'm a girl by the way). I am afraid it's unzipped so I better be careful. It has happened to me a few times when my zipper is open halfway up.
• India

sorry for the late response.. oh.. i did not get your girl status.. :) .... thanks for the genuine response. how do you do that subtly? .. how could you put your hands there.. and, not be observed. how often do you wear pants with zippers?

Hahaha, it's not like I'd have to pull my shirt up a little just to see my zipper. I don't look at it. And as much as possible, I do it without people around. I always wear pants or shorts with zippers. I go to school four times a week so that's how often I wear them.

it's so unfair... and when we try to make it as 'inconspicuous' as possible, someone always manages to see...and glares, or giggles..
• India
3 Jul 10
or is it your plan to grab the attention of those who try to glare and giggle? Mario, friend, did you observe... It is only when the girl has a friend, that she giggles, and makes fun of the situation. If alone, they simply try to behave as if they are INVISIBLE! ... ( ******* next headline found! )

You men are quite sensitive which leaves brother john easily aroused. Once he has awaken he is 'uncontrollable' even without provocation and create an embarrassing bulge in front that necessitate frequent zipper adjustment.
• India

hahahaha. thankyou for the funny remark on the brother john.. I think, the sensitivity really matters a lot. There is no man .. that could operate some control over this rude brother .. I have seen situations, when this unruly brother gets active at the oddest of the moments... causing embarrassment. thanks for the response.

I really dont think its just a man thing to check to see if your zipper is zipped up. I check mine almost obsessively. I am so afraid that my zipper will be done and someone will notice it. I'd rather someone notice it and tell me though then have them notice it and not tell me. Thats even worse. I dont want to walk around and have anyone notice my zipper being down thats so humiliating. Its happened a few times I remember a specific time when I was 7 and I was in a classroom as school I told the one kid key your zippers down and they said yours is to. I laughed and thought they were joking until someone else nodded that it was true and I looked and was mortified!

when I WAS in the university, i HAD a friend, tell me about this "sunday is longer than monday" .... did you ever hear about that. i HEARD that this is the way, a girl tells her friend, that her inners are showing. particularly the bra strap, etc.. to be modest and decent. I think, there should be something similar to tell fellow pant-wearers that the zipper is open... thanks for the answer.. i think, you were too small at 7.. . one does get MORTIFIED? .. just for this? .. oh!

I wouldn't know because I am female and I always check my zipper. When I was in high school, I would see a lot of my female friends checking it as well. I guess if you wear a dress all the time, even when you have on jeans, you wouldn't think to check your zipper but if you wear jeans or pants all the time, you would worry a lot about whether your zipper is unzupped or not.
• India
1 Jul 10
thanks for the response dear animegirl... so, you have been using the zippers and pants.. do you check that discretely? ..or just like other men that I have been describing, .. do you do that, without conscious observation?

How long has it been since women there started wearing pants? Maybe they aren't used to it yet. I don't see how people wouldn't know though. I can tell if my zipper is open without having to check cause I can feel the difference in temperature if the rest of my lower anatomy is warm and one spot is getting a breeze.
• India
1 Jul 10
you are right. probably because WOMEN in my area are very new to wearing these mens' trousers.. they are not observed to be checking. and, As you said . ... one will always be able to sense if the zipper is open, or semi closed.. by the cool/warm difference in the temperature. thanks...

I think it is because women don't have anything that will wiggle out...
• India
1 Jul 10
they should then be checking their bust line.. or may be, the bust just wont wiggle out on its own! .. may be, but, I DON'T want to take this as an answer.. CJ.. why don't you think something else? .. like, .. will there be a unseen connection between the Pant-zipper and the hand-fingers? .. something like Static Electric Connection?

agreed with all applause dear friend, CJ... simpler the solution, .. the more effective it will be. so, I will now try to understand that it is an unconditional urge on the part of both males and females.. to adjust and check .. if those parts, which are likely to wiggle out.. are IN order.

I see women constantly adjusting their bust lines, and they're bra straps, and they trousers for some reason. Your recommended answer is overly complicated, simple is better my friend, I know at times I seem like a complicated person myself, but I truly am quite simple. The simpler the solution, generally, the more effective and trustworthy it is. Sincerely and With Appreciation.

I guess it has to do with the guys privates. It usually bulges our front part of our pants making our pant show if our zipper is open. Women don't have that kind of problem since they don't have any bulge at the back of their zippers.
• India
30 Jun 10
most are telling the same. BUT, being a very conscious male, I can tell you that . ... when I CHECK my zippers.. I DON'T have to check if my inners are well placed. ... .. and, contrary to the notion.. these inners don't keep BULGING ... ... there should be some office hours and, some entertainment hours.. right?.... still, waiting for a good explanation...

i think it's because men has that bulging thing while we women have our front flat. if men forget to zip their pants, there is a possibility that their underwear will show.
• India

so, you too suggest that they do that checking, just to ensure decency. The majority seem to recommend the same. what makes me surprised is.. why do the MEN bother to upkeep their decency, just by being indecent, through their AWKWARD checking of the zipper? .. could it not be done discreetly? .... ask me, and, even I do that, quite unknowingly. there should be some SIGMOND theory for this!~

Well consult, it is the exact opposite here in the US, I see far more men with their fly undone than women. Either way though I can't imagine to not always be checking ones clothing. I check all the time especially with certain types of clothing. When weather is warmer here I tend to wear a lot of tank tops and am always checking to make sure that "things" aren't falling out and that my zipper hasn't fallen unexpectedly. I wish I had an answer for you and the only one that comes to mind is laziness. One other is that people don't take pride in the way they dress, I say this to those that walk around with pants hanging down below bottom with belt and then walk around holding the top of the pants to keep them up. How utterly ridiculous. If they knew where the trend started would they be so inclined, I wonder? As always just my 2 cents worth!!!
• India
30 Jun 10
thanks dear friend... beanie ... it is impressive to read.. "Often people don't take pride in the way they dress" ... it might be one reason for the self-conscious behavior to keep pulling the belt, or to keep checking the zippers.. I have found that this is a contagious disease.. particularly in closed rooms.. if one starts to checkout the zipper.. in a lift/escalator.. when there is nothing else to be done, other than staring at each other.. all tend to do that.. NOT discreetly, but by a deliberate effort. thanks .. your reply is more worthy than the ornamental 2cents.

consultrainer, I suppose all these checks are done in the name of propriety and modesty. Just like ladies who will check their coverage when donning on strapless or bareback dresses and men will check if their zippers are where they should be, so that there will not be a fashion dysfunction in the full view of the public. Everyone is just trying to be both considerate and decent, besides being careless can just bring about negative reactions and undesirable effects.

I personally don't check my pants zipper because I have full confidence that it will be staying up. I do however constantly do things like pull my shirt up. Its all about what you've got to cover, I guess.
• India
30 Jun 10
lols.. you are sure living up to your name tag.. dare to defy.. and, so, you have chosen to pull the shirt... lols.. thanks for the reply. but, it is not about confidence, I presume. It is all about being indecent, or decent.. that men are conscious about. That is what I have been feeling all through. let us see, if there would be some more .. who would share their viewpoint.

meluan... .. hope to operate you on this! ... rajesh.. I am happy to be of some use in psychology too. and, this subject about checking the zippers is studied widely in sociology. it is not anymore surprising. may be, soon, people will be checking their necklines, for the tatooed IDENTITY marks, as allegedly marked during the second world war...

so you mean to surprise me with this answer. so you mean, men are always conscious about their inner parts.. just because it might get different, .. but, it happens with some awareness. .. this checking the zipper .. is an unconscious one. but, it gets wet there.. how do you check that then? ... oh my god. is that me? ...that asked this question.. anyhow friend.. I don't think to agree with this answer? ...
