A Child's Reasoning.

My oldest daughter has swim team practice in the mornings and Paul and I go along and watch Kathryn practice. Well, this morning Paul absolutely had to take his backpack with him. I figured it was because he had a lot of Hotwheels and other toys in there and that way he would have something to do while Kathryn was practicing. I quickly found out that I was wrong. We've had to keep our fridge locked since we moved in because Paul will eat and eat and eat until there is nothing left if he has the ability to do it. So, he got a hold of the fridge key and had stashed it into his backpack and while we were at the pool he took it out and was trying to unlock the vending machine with the key so that he could get some M&Ms to eat while sissy was practicing. Although I can't make sense of his entire line of reasoning, it impressed me that he thought like this. Have your children ever done anything that completely amazed you? Please share the stories with me.

Now he sounds very bright! So many memories came to mind but one of the worse was when I could not find my 2 year old daughter. I ran from room to room and then went out on the veranda (which she could not leave) and still could not find her. I saw one our employees going into the bush on the farm, and told him to get my husband as I couldn't find the baby. Pure panic No cell phones! Then I heard a little voice saying 'Help'. I looked up and she was on the roof of the house looking down at me. She had used the grilled gates on the veranda to climb up and then hauled herself on our flat roof. Talk about heart attack. So the man climbed up and then handed her to me. She would climb fearlessly and climb where our sons had never climbed before. We had to watch her like a hawk.

Then I had better not tell you that I once lost my 10 month old son (It was my husband's fault)

i think i was with hording food too when i was younger har har har. but your little man is very wise to think on putting it all inside his back pack. i would assume too that it must be toys that he will be packing if he was my son. at least you know he wont starve his self and when you feel like you want to eat you can ask him for he is a boy scout. my son is four years old and he does amazed us on how he imitates his mother for they are always together at home. to washing clothes and sweeping the floor. with this in an early age he knows how to put his toys where he got it. but sometimes when he is not in the mood to keep things he would go to our room with his small toys and put it on the side of the bed. but the bed is near the wall so when he put something there we need to push the heavy bed to find see if it was there. one time he was watching his favorite tv show and we could not see where the remote is. kept looking for it. when my wife told me look at the side of the bed, there it was. we know that he does not like to be disturbed when he is watching so he got rid of the remote. har har har

now thats over the top very unexpected reaction. though it came out to be like a blessing in disguise that now you can buy the tv that you wanted still this was a shock. what happened after that? did you gave paul a time out? what did dad said about this?

Of course I gave him a time out. He had to go in his room for an hour and then when Daddy got home he had to explain what had happened.

Not only does my son do those things that are very intelligent, he also has an attitude that we've discovered. He loves to watch television and like you've said, he doesn't like to be disturbed when he is watching his shows. Well, his sister doesn't like the preschool shows that Paul enjoys so one day she decided to change the channel. He ended up throwing a box of blocks and the television and busted the screen. I was very mad at both of them, but it meant that I would eventually get the new television that I'd been wanting.

hi dorannmwin My son was only 11 months old when he took a screwdriver and unscrewed all the screws in his playpen so he could just crawl over the side and get free.I heard my husband cuss and then break out laughing so I hurred in to find he had utterly dismantled his play pen. From then on no more play pen for that little guy, he graduated to pots and pans then. We should have known that He was gifted with his hands and now he is a computer programmer and he finally has a job again after being out of work for one and a half years.

I am so happy to hear that your son has finally been able to get a job again. It definitely sounds like he was destined for the career in his life that he ended up with from a very early age.

How long do you think it is going to take before he is able to get yourselves a place of your own again, or is that dream gone?

How old is he? My kids amaze me on a daily basis, especially the younger 2, who are 2 and 4. Almost daily they will say or do something that is quite impressive for their age. Today, though it wasn't impressive I did find it quite adorable. As you know I go to the gym everyday. There they have a free child watch for the little ones, but they have a 2 hour time limit, which usually causes no issues. However today I wanted to take the Yoga/Pilates class which started at 9:15, then the boot camp class which started at 10:30, each an hour long. So, at about 11 I sent my 13 year old to get the younger kids and play with them in the gym while I finished my class. Coincidentally my class went into the gym at about 11 to work out in there because it's larger than the aerobics room downstairs. The kids did good at staying out of our way, thankfully our boot camp class is never very large.. we had 6 including the instructor. So, our exercise was to partner up, and one partner would run a weight to one end of the gym, drop it there, then run back, while the other partner did squat thrusts, then we'd take turns running back to bring the weights back one at a time while the other partner did mountain climbers... etc etc. Okay.. here's the cute part. My kids, though they stayed off to the side and out of our way, actually participated in the exercises. While I ran the length of the gym they ran too, while I did the squat thrusts or mountain climbers they were off to the side doing those as well.. it was mainly my 3 younger boys, the 7 year old, 4 year old, and 2 year old. Afterwards the 4 year old told everyone who would listen that he ran and did exercises with mommy.

Paul is three and a half years old. He is my baby. However, as is also the case with my eldest, I think that he is far more intelligent than his age actually reveals.

Hee hee! Smart boy! I hope he wasn't too mad when he couldn't get to the M&M's! My daughter's drawings still continues to amaze us. She freehands everything and I like the fact that she doesn't copy other kids drawing styles - she seriously has a style of her own. The facial expressions, forms and coloring . . . it's truly amazing - especially since she does it all on her own. The other week there was a set of birds on the table. I thought my husband did them because I know his style of quick drawings. To my surprise, I learned it was my daughter who drew them - not my husband - and that TOTALLY blew me away.

I certainly wish that Paul would start to show some artistic talent (Kathryn is a really good artist, in fact last year I was told by her art teacher at school that she was the best artist in the primary grades and one of the best in the school). However, I think that his talents are manifesting in different areas than hers. Also this week he has taken to positioning his Hotwheels in such a way that they are making letters and he is telling me what they are. So cute.

I think it also shows that he is going to be more of a hands-on individual than one that learns through the more traditional means. Of course, it makes sense because my husband is a machinist and thus a very hands on person.

That's awesome that Paul has been making letters with his Hotwheels . . . I love stuff like that from kids when they think outside the box. And it shows he's using his noggin too!! Each of our kids amaze us in different ways!

Bless him... sounds like he knows an awful lot... in fact he sounds a little like my little man! I have a 16 month old toddler, who I am not kidding is into absolutely everything. Here are a few examples of what he has done so far, just to show me how quick he learns different things. 1.. he helps himself to ice lollies from the freezer 2.. he has taken out frozen crumpets/muffins from the freezer, and opened the grill and chucked them in there. 3.. he has climbed on the window sill, to lay up there with the cat 4.. he has taken the lead from the hoover, and tried to plug it in the wall... (thank goodness for safety sockets!) 5.. quite often he will play around with the mouse of my computer, and make it do things that even I am not aware of and lastly.. he has put my magnets from the fridge/freezer, and placed them in the washing machine, and actually started a cycle!!! These are a few of the main things that he has done, but believe me, he catches on very quick to the things that he see's us doing around the house. It is amazing actually that someone so young can be this quick at understanding how things work. Now I am having to keep an eye on my cooker, as he now learnt how to turn on the hobs!!! Kids are great, and they always seem to do something that will just take you back. Truth is I never had this with my eldest, but every kid is different lol

you two are a few of the experienced mom's .... but it is generally normal, for things children do like that... but for one, all my children has a couple extra talents I have seen, and I always take a note with my wife that he/she is already capable doing that ... Simple amazing to all fellow Parents... It just that we are Happy to see the things they are capable of...

I do believe that a lot of the things that children end up doing are because of imitation, and it is amazing to see those things that they retain. It does sound like your little one is quite an intelligent one.

Our big challenge was tht the third child would constantly see the other two beicn punished after being caught doing a no no and feel that she was smarter and do the same no no. I have never figured that mind set out.

That is really interesting. I remember that my brother and I would get in trouble all the time when we were younger and because of seeing the two of us get in trouble, my sister would never imitate those behaviors.
