There are many people who read for long hours without taking any break in between which is very essential to protect your eyes when reading for long times or else your eyes might get harmed.Even i have a habit of reading books for longer period of even 8-10 hours sometimes, but i do make it a point to go and watch some greenery to keep my eyes fresh and moreover after reading for long time i also keep cucumber slice on my closed eyes to keep it fresh from burning sensation because of continuous exposure to reading

Hi Alienstar, I think there are other factors involved, such as the environmental factors. Anyway I cannot read ten hours continuously. I feel tired after an hour of reading, and need to take a short walk before reading again. Hardly anyone has the luxury to spend all their time reading. In term of damages to the eyes, I think prolong usage of computer is worse than reading paperbacks.

Too much of any thing is bad, i have to read books for long hours, work on computer for long hours, so to give relaxation, i close my eyes and wash them with cold water, this gives lot of relaxation... Thanks for sharing. Welcome always. Cheers. Professor

you are supposed to rest your eyes for 5 minutes every hour to prevent eye strain.

What's your source for this? It doesn't sound legit. I've heard that keeping your eyes open without blinking for long periods of time will harm your eyes... but starring at computer screens causes you to blink less than starring at the pages of a book.
