Is there only One True Religion?

From the point of view of the catholic faith for which I am a member.. posting this question is already blasphemous or heresy..We believe in the "infalliability of the church" doctrine, stating that the church is free from error and what it claims is only the truth... it further speaks that Christianity is the only true religion in the world.. those who die and was baptized with it has a chance of entry in heaven but those who are not have NO chance at all for admission... I cam from a sectarian catholic school and was bombarded by these doctrines for 12 years of my impressionable life.. when I reach the age of reason, I couldn't help but ask... How about those churches from the prostestant reformation (e.g. protestants, lutherian, baptist etc) are they not righteous enough to go to heaven... how about an atheist born in an isolated land that knows no religion, despite heroic and noble deeds is still devoid of this opportunity? how about the Muslims who believed in Mohammed and teaches partly the words of God? Do you really believe that there is ONLY "ONE" true Religion? please share your insights..

Although I'm a Christian-Orthodox, I have to say all religions have their flaws, I believe that by the end of the day we pray to the same person.

That is a difficult question. I am a Catholic too and I graduated from a Catholic high school. I don't remember that way back my high school year we were taught that Christianity is the one true religion. We were taught of our duties as Catholics and also doing good things as a person and as a Christian. I can say that we were not as strict as like other Catholic schools, we even have non Catholic classmates like Iglesia ni Cristo and others. What i can say is that we were taught to respect other people's religion or faith. Whenever there are activities that non Catholic students don't do because of their church affiliation, they were not forced to do them as long as they respect our beliefs too. As for me, i love my God and my religion and i respect other people's belief regarding their religion too. My family and my uncle's family are very close to each other for our houses are just beside theirs. My uncle and his family are Mormons. We respect each other so we don't have problems. I also agree to what my mother said that whatever sects or religion we have, what is important is that you are good and you don't do bad things. No religion will teach a person to be bad. So I think that even If you do good things, your God will be happy whoever your God is.

All Religions are true to each own individual or groups accordingly to each own knowledges and wisdoms. So, there is no such as thing "One True Religion" but "All Religions are True" .... And there is also one Truth that there is only one True God even a diversified Religions that rooted, branched, sect, divided or individualized. Whether don't know or knew it already. Whether like it or not like it. Whether believed or not believed. And, the most important is a 100% or more true faith with no regrets or remorse of whatsoever and don't mind if exist or not exist as long are existing and survive life here on Earth with the glorious of true one and only True God.

i think Jesus himself was not a christian but he was Jew if every body who is christian goes to heaven , then will any christian tell me to whom that Jesus in Matthew 7-23 says "i never knew , depart from me...." he is not telling this to Hindus or Muslims but he telling this to christians so it is clear from bible itself , not every christian will enter heaven even not every Muslim will enter to heaven as per quran , one who believes in monotheism and do righteous deeds will enter heaven , immaterial of being Muslim ,Christian or Jew so the first requisite is being a monotheist , then should be righteous person

Different group of people have different believing religion. One who believe in Hindu will say Hindu is only one true religion so there won't be one true religion.

First, when you say "Catholic," you should specify Roman, because (a) there are other kinds, & (b) other forms don't say it's "blasphemy" to ask honest questions about the faith. Only a tyrannical "church" would do so, & frankly, I've never heard a Roman Catholic say what you said. Second, there are 3 options re believing in Christ, or not. One: He was an insane person. Two: He was a fantastic & cruel liar. Three: He always tells the truth (please not I changed from "was" to "is," as if the third option is true, then He is alive today). I'm Eastern Orthodox Catholic, & I believe option 3. He said He was "THE way, THE Truth, & THE Light." Since that's true, then Church that He founded, should be obeyed--not without question, mind you, as members can be mistaken, but once it's established that the priest is not in heresy, one must listen & obey. HOWEVER. There is one thing to consider. If one never hears (& then rejects) Christ's Church, then, God being sane, fair & merciful, that person wouldn't go to Hell. His or her blood is on our hands, especially the guardians of God's Church, thus we see the daily prayers we should all be praying, for those souls who will never hear the Gospel of the Christ. The Church, or more to the point, Christ, is everywhere available to humans, even then. There is such a thing as "baptism by fire." Without knowing Jesus' NAME, if one is truly seeking God, one will find him, however remote the locale of that sincere human. There's lots more to it than cut-&-dried dogma. Intent matters. And don't forget, "Love covers a multitude of sins." If I were you, I'd relax & let God sort it out, & pray. "Pray without ceasing." And read the holy Books, talk to your priests. You cannot go wrong if you trust God. Maggiepie “I can't stand the stupid idiots in here. Can we get smarter idiots?" ~ LOLcats caption

Yes there is only one true church but no one I have ever run into is practicing it. If you will read the New Testament and look at what happened as well as hear the words you will see Jesus established His true Church. Jesus personally taught the Apostles and then sent them out to teach others. The key is where did Jesus send His teachers? Very simple. Jesus sent the Apostles to teach in the homes of the people that believd in Him. He didn't send them to some building down the street we call a church. The true Church Jesus set up was to opwerate in a very simple manner. There was only one problem with the plan Jesus put into action. If you did it the way Jesus set it up there was no profit in it. In money I mean. In fact Jesus set His true Church up where no money would ever be needed for it to operate and be effective. Man being greedy soon solved this problem. Man saw that he had something very valuable and he started to charge for his services. That killed the entire church Jesus set up. The point of the true Church was that every member, man, woman or child would be dealing directly with God through the Anointing of the Holy Spirit. There was to be no one between man and God as there always had been before. Man makes honest mistakes, the Holy Spirit doesn't. From now on every time you look at your christian teacher, no matter what you call them, Know this. The christian teachers of today are the product of man, not God. If they are being paid for their services then they are doing their own work, not God's work. We are supposed to be working in our homes, Anointed with the Holy Spirit, teaching our children to a point that God can Anoint them also before they leave our homes and establish their own homes. This was the way the true Church of Jesus was to spread. From one home to the other. This church no longer exists for the simple reason man thinks he must be paid for everything he does. The last few verses of the book of Mark in the New Testament tells you what you and I as members of this true church are supposed to be doing. We are supposed to be teaching by example, not with words. Art

I believe God's word is without error, but I don't believe any particular religion is. I believe that God's invisible qualities are evident to all mankind so that they have to admit there is a superior being who created the universe. Since the atheist refuses to acknowledge God or any superior being, I don't believe they'll be saved. Since the Bible teaches that no one comes to God the Father except through Jesus Christ, I don't believe those who willfully reject Him will be saved. I don't know what God's plans are for those who have never heard about Jesus Christ, but since He said "I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6), it seems to me that Jesus would have to go directly to them after they die and teaches them so they have the choice to accept or reject Him. I believe anyone who proclaims that Jesus is the Christ and has made Him the Lord of their life is saved.

Hi,I am Amit. The debate that you have started is very interesting as well as perplexing.Interesting because religion is a way for all humans to reach out to the supreme power governing us whose presence is felt by all of us every moment of our lives, and, perplexing because if this is the case, how can one way to reach GOD be superior to the other ? I am a HINDU by religion and am proud to say that it is very liberal in this regard. The holy scriptures mention that there is only one true GOD(LORD KRISHNA),who would take birth(in DWAPAR AGE,a period in the HINDU calender chosen by the LORD OF LORDS FOR HIS REINCARNATION, to absolve mankind of all forms of sins and corruption) when the earth would be plunged in great darkness due to triumph of evil over good.He would destroy the evil forces both directly and indirectly(through Arjun in the battle of MAHABHARAT),show his real self to the worthy, proclaim HIS real status(I AM THE ONLY TRUE GOD AND THE REST ARE MY SUBSIDIARIES -BHAGVAD GITA) for the first time and also leave a message to the mankind(combined in form of BHAGVAD GITA) which if followed in true spirit would absolve mankind of all its sins and take them to the 'heaven of heavens'- GO LOK (THE ABODE OF THE COWS)where LORD KRISHNA resides forever with his eternal love,RADHA. The above was a background explanation of the context of my reply so that you could understand Hinduism in a nutshell. Here is the direct reply. In BHAGVAD GITA,the LORD furthur says that whenever evil triumphs over good and the people start losing faith in the supreme HE takes birth to justify their faith.HE says that to restore faith of the noble in GOD and to restore righteousness in the world for the betterment of mankind HE has taken several births in different lands with diverse cultures and languages, and with different names in the past and will continue to do so whenever the existence of mankind is in danger or whenever it is losing its path and heading towards a crisis. As you can very well see our MOST VENERATED LORD HIMSELF discounts any question of superiority or inferiority of any religion.HE holds all of them as respectful and righteous.Perhaps this teaching has become part of our psyche and has been integrated so well in our hearts and minds that instead of taking offence to new religions like CHRISTIANITY,JUDAISM,ZOROASTRIANISM and ISLAM,we welcomed them with open arms. That's the reason why INDIA is called unity in diversity and you will be surprised to know (if you have not already noticed)that our Prime Minister is a SIKH and the leader of the ruling party is a CATHOLIC.

We won't know the answer to your question until we die, because there is constant controversy over which religion is real. However, as for the church being infallible, that is ridiculous. The church is made up of people and people are fallible, therefore the church is fallible. What man teaches is what he believes from what he is taught and from what he has divined on his own. There are infinite ways he can misunderstand or misconstrue the Bible, Koran, Scrolls, Torah, for he is only man; he is not God. To live our lives to the best of our knowledge, to strive to learn more and to be open to all avenues of learning, are the best any man, woman or child can do. If you look within our churches, they teach one way and refuse to listen to anything else. That is an unfathomable loss. They often, in their ignorance, speak one thing and do another. In our Baptist church when I was a child, every Sunday the children were taught to sing "Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight; Jesus loves the little children of the world." Yet,in the sixties, we were told if anyone of another color comes into our church, we will get up quietly and go to our homes. When I asked, "But if Jesus loves all colors, why don't we?" I got in loads of trouble with the preacher and deacons for being smart mouthed. I did not lose my love of God, but I did cease to trust churches. I did not attend again until after my children were born and the youngest was eight. They pulled me to church, not the other way around. They discovered a church of people who truly meant it when they sang that song. We had every color in that church along with Baptist, Methodist, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, Hindu, Amish and we worked together to share God's praises.

There is NO true religion (except mine of course) All religions have many many faults. Especially the ones that teach that there is a benevalent "God" instead of realizing that if there IS a "God" then IT is more EVIL than Satan. There IS NO heaven and no hell.

Many people claim that their belief and religion are true. There is nothing wrong with that because everybody has the right to believe what they think are the truth but God is the one who spoke and chose the church that He only acknowledge with. Read Rome 16:16 and you will know.

I used to be religious but gave it all up as soon as I was old enough to think for myself. I believe religion was started innocently enough By Paul the Apostle as a means of keeping his widely dispersed churches together. Sometime later however, other Christians saw a chance to become Powerful and Wealthy via Christianity. The Scam that resulted is the Biggest Richest most Powerful Business in the world, as is evidenced by the Pope sitting in the Vatican, on untold wealth, stolen during the middle ages, while Witches Burned, Holy wars were Fought and Little Children Molested. He remains safely ensconced in the Holy of Holys where he can never be charged, or arrested, and he will not even say "I am Sorry!"

By studding theology for many years I have understood that all religions speak about one and the same. Yes, they have big differences in those rituals, praxes and doctrines, but the essence is only one. If we check mysterious experiences in different religions, for example, Eastern mystics and Buddhist, than their experiences are very similar, they have common feelings which they feel in this experience and also the effect is alike - they are fulfilled with love and piece. If there were only one religion which had the ONLY Truth, than other religion members would never experience the same revelation.

we all have one true religion, though there is no such thing as one true religion that is applicable for all of us.for me, true religion is finding the religion that you're at ease with. it's like choosing a partner :)

Actually, in today's world the term religion has a misguided meaning. Religion to me means actually a way of life in which we need to impart peace, happiness to other fellowmen and maintain harmony within ourselves. Religion is the way you respect your elders, help your folks and try to help other people in a way or two. Sadly, today we have forgotten all these humane things and going to church, going to mosques or performing rituals has become a thing of religion. True religion expects us to have love between each other, help each other, but if we peep into history we realize how wrong we are behaving. Wars, riots, slavery all have stained human's history. According to me we are creating heaven or hell here itself. No need to go anywhere. Once we start loving each other and follow what Jesus or other prophets have imparted us the true knowledge, then only the creation of heaven will be initiated.
