Do you have to work weekends?

For your job, do you have to work weekends? I have to work almost every Saturday, but it's not too bad since it's only 7:30 am to 1:30 pm. I get most of my afternoon free since I get off so early, and I have off every Sunday. I usually work 6 days a week, which can take a toll, but it's certainly better than being unemployed or only having part-time hours available! I usually get off one Saturday every 5-6 weeks, so it's even nicer when I have one off. How about you? Do you work 6 days a week and have to work on weekends ever?

I'm still a student, but i have experienced working on my internship. On our work we don't have any rest or free day, we work the whole week, even if it is holiday. But we do get some day off but only once a month. I worked on a island resort, its really kind of isolated from the mainland so they our day off is consist of a 5 days break, so i thinks its still okay. Thanks for the topic and much respect

I haven't worked in 5 years but when i did work i worked every sat. I was a hairdresser & was usually pretty busy on sat. Finally the last few years i worked i quit working on sat. Some of my customers weren't too thrilled but i decided after 40+ years i deserved to have a weekend.

Yes, weekends is also not a free day. I need to work everyday, do my clutters and not only that, I enjoy a lot too. I love my job. The best way to find out what you want at work, is to look at what has previously made you love your job. My experience is that most people don't love their work. Many like it, some tolerate it, but it is a minority who find work they love that also supports. Each day is unique and I just love it.

Yes, I understand that. When I worked at a restaurant it was the same for me. Now, I get off every Sunday at least and all federal holidays are paid time off, which is definitely nice. : )

Hi bethany, 'Work is worship'- this is our Hindu philosophy. But work and work and too much work takes away the ethics involved in it. Work in limitation and legit is ok for there is saying work while you work play while you play. But where is the time now a days to 'play'? well though you have to work on Saturday the amount is less but here in my case we have no exception on Saturday either. Since i work in a College we have just the Sunday to rest. But the satisfying thing is that the work load is not that much as some people have.

That's nice, and the Hindu philosophy surely does make sense.

My weekends start on Friday and yes, I do need to work on weekends. I am part time teaching at a tuition center for primary school students. Friday is the only day I am free so I choose that day to teach. I also need to go to my own class on Saturday for my degree. So I don't normally rest on weekends.

I have to work on weekends too,but that is only every other weekend.. I work only 4 hours during weekends though but most of the time I always get extended because of tasks that takes more than 4 hours to complete. But anyhow, your right.... Better to have that job than no job at all.... That's a motivation..

Weekends are rare things any more. I work for the IT department at a health insurance company and when we put a release in, if there's a project in it that I was working on, I am often either online supporting the release or on call.

Hello Bethany, I'm glad that I don't have to work weekends just like you and I don't think I would go for a job that will need me to work on weekends. Hehhe. In case I work on weekends, they should give me a replacement leave because I'd rather get my days off than get paid for another day that I'm supposed to have time for myself. Cheers, Honey

At the moment I work 7 days a week, but that is only temporary (during the summer months) A lot of people are away on vacation at the moment, and my husband and I am going to travel around in Europe in September, so we are trying to earn some extra money at the moment. Today I had a lot of extra work, because two people didn't show up for work, and I was pretty exhausted when I finally got home. Now I relax in front of the computer for a while. I have very little free time right now, so I enjoy every moment of it

Yes. Unfortunately, I have to spend my whole Saturday busy at work. I only take one holiday per week that's why I always feel like one holiday is not enough for me to enjoy and relax. But my job isn't that really stressful. I have to go to work from 10am to 5 or 6pm the most. I spend my entire working hours sitting down and checking the work sheets of my students. I do have a lot of vacant time from Monday-Saturday too so I spend time taking a nap in the office or talking to my co-worker. It wasn't really that good to be at work on a week-end but as what you've said, at least I am not of those thousand of people who are currently unemployed.
