Is there a food that you eat regularly now after eating it on a foreign holiday?

Grilled Halloumi - A delicious cheese when grilled

For me it is Halloumi cheese, and I first came across it while on holiday in Cyprus; it was a regular addition to the many Mezes that we enjoyed there. Since then, I expect because more and more people are travelling abroad and sampling these foods, I have seen it more and more in supermarkets in the UK. Halloumi is in fact a semi-soft cheese that is eaten mainly in Cyprus and the Middle East. I think the closest cheese to it is the Mozzarella, and it is very versatile. Halloumi can be eaten on its own but is also wonderful cooked - it can be grilled, roasted or fried, or added to dishes. I also love it on the barbecue. Have you got a similar food favourite?

I discovered what was known as the "Hawaii Toast" when I was in Germany for a Concert..toasted Bread, layered with Ham,pineapple slice, and cheese melted on top...I wouldn't say I'd eat it regularly since then, but it would be a treat from time to time! On the other side of the coin,Another food I'd have tried abroad and I'm still iffy about,is Calamari..When in Spain,I decided to try some while visiting Gibraltar..they looked like breaded onion rings, and they tasted like somebody had put a pack of rubber bands into the batter by mistake!

I've been a Bagel fan since first trying them on a trip to the US..and an American Cousin introduced us to the PBJ sandwich when He visited us once when I was a Kid,many moons ago...and I HAD to try clam chowder and crab cakes when visiting New England...I look out for those on a Menu now! The world is definitely getting to be a smaller place with international travel..There are various ethnic groups forming communities in many cities, bringing their food and cultures with them to explore,so we don't even need to leave the country to be a foodie traveller!-and wasn't Curry voted as an English national Dish some time back?!

I love the bread in Turkey, but as it's freshly made - and not something that our bakers make here, I'm either going to have to learn to make it myself or just enjoy it when I visit Turkey in the summer. However, I suspect everything tastes better when you're on holiday. I doubt I'd enjoy the bread as much if I was sitting at my own kitchen table :(

Yeah, that's it. There's nothing quite like being on holiday is there. Turkey's just next to Cyprus so we obviously holiday in a similar environment. There's nothing quite like it, and I would move over there ina minute if I could. Life just seems so laid back over there, although it probably isn't for those who live and work there all year round.

I have not traveled abroad, but I have found my diet to have changed just from traveling within the United States. I used to be not much of a seafood lover, I would eat fish and deep fried shrimp. I have traveled to New England and found that I like shrimp prepared in many other ways, and scallops and lobster rolls. I have gone to agricultural festivals and learned that I like goat cheese, and chestnuts, and squash soup. That was a hard one for me to think about, but we make it all the time now. It is both healthy and good.

For me it's the greek dish Kleftiko: marinated lamb, vegetables, feta cheese and garlic all wrapped up in tinfoil and cooked slowly in the oven. Perfect with fresh bread to mop up all the juices.
