ya, i agree no pain no gain.....in order to study accounting you need to very good at logic and thing the matter in logical manner......other then this you have to be thorough with concepts,basic,and principles of accounting.....easiest way to be perfect is the practice....

Sine I am not from a commerce background I don't have any idea but one of my friend said that you should do more practices the lessons that you have learn today. I was like you who need a good tips to learn the account. From my own experience, learn not to read accounts only and memorized, but it needs a lot of drills, especially in the ledger accounts needs us to calculate and understand the requirements of the question. We must train ourselves to make a day of training ourselves to be normal and most importantly we know how to answer. Thus, any account questions, we will be able to answer easily. That message from my lecturers and tips for you and also myself. Hope this will give you idea.
