dear mylotters, yesterday i received my bill for this month, it was Php3,450.00! i was astonished,i use only some circular lamps as light, a refrigerator, and electric fans, and my table computer. here energy is charged at 6 pesos per kwh and i heard they will be increasing the same to 8 pesos per kwh. i live frugally, like i switch off fans, lights when its not necessary. and i am most of the time out of the house! i dont have an air conditioner. i use electric fan but only when i am at home. moreover i am in office from 8am till almost 8pm weekdays. surely there is something wrong with the meter. will do a complaint. how much to do you pay for your light bills? do you know how much it costs per kwh in your place? ann

I am careful with my power usage, but I couldn't tell you the cost per kwt. It is cold here now. and I am living in a studio apartment, so instead of using the heater at night, I watch television from bed. The result is usually, I get that tired, I turn it off and go to sleep around nine. Mike.

dear mike, such a simple way of living (like me. ). am lucky i don't need a heater because i am in the tropics. but when it is summer, i get to use a lot of water because i keep going to the shower because the heat is just too much. and that is when the electric fan is very useful. ann

That is too much for a single person. Our electric bills is 8000 but think of it we are more 40 persons using it. 12 televisions working, 3 refrigerator and 1 aircon and 20 electric fan and 2 desktop computer. According to our light company here they are no longer using hydro because the Ma. Cristina falls are not enough to supply water for our electricity that is why the pay is 10 kwph.

See your the only person in your house then you have that kind of bill. Have considered of checking your lines maybe there are someone who tapped your line. You know most people do, they will try to connect their lines to others without any permission.

Hi, tigeraunt. This sound like the bill of an office building! Good grief! You should contact the electric company about this immediately. Something is entirely wrong here. Our electric bill averages out to be at least, $90-120.00 a month. No more than that. I save on my energy just like you do too.

I am not the one who pay the bill, so I have absolutely no idea how much it cost my bill. My father pay for it. So, I just don't know. That is a pretty good question, We should know something more about our bills. If you have question, don't hesitate to ask.

Oh my...That's so big! Hmmm... I'm staying in a dormitory. According to the management, the electric bill for the month of June was around a hundred thousand. So, they increased the room rates and charges for electrical appliances. :(

Our electric bill has stayed pretty much the same, even though last month we consumed more because my brothers who live abroad came home. I guess you need to have your wiring and meter checked if there is a sudden increase in your consumption when you have not added any electrical gadgets in the house. Sometimes electrical gadgets can be a culprit in increasing kilowatt consumption, especially old electric fans. I remember last December when we had no need to use the air condition unit, we just used the fan that has been around for ages. When our electric bill came, we were shocked to see that we were consuming almost the same as when we had the fan. So we discontinued the use of the fan and just used the aircon. And we gave away that power hungry fan to a relative.

hello anne, i guess it is true that the older the appliances, the more power is used up. it is good you have donated the power hungry fan.. but what could have been happening to the consumption of your relative? do have a really great day today. ann

Hi Tigeraunt, My monthly electric bill ranges from Php5k to 6k, and there are 5 people in my house. We use AC (air con.), this makes my bill shoot up every month. I know the bill can be lower if I don't switch it on every night, but my kids won't be able to sleep without it. But in your case, there's only you in the house and you're out most of the time. I guess something is wrong with your meter, or other people are using your line. Better have it checked.

...Hi there tigeraunt, Sometimes there is a problem with the electrical system. My girlfriend has a large bi-level home with four or five bedrooms. One of her bills last year was around six thousand American dollars for the month. They sent someone out to check the house. There was a drainage somewhere in the circuitry. They eventually resolved the problem. Kind of scary. When they check your system, hopefully they will find a problem and fix it. Good luck, take care.

Yeah, i think they've doubled it -- the price, that is. It's the summer heat and the cost of production for electricity.

dear dminotaur, its true. the climate change is making so much toll on nature hence we get to make the generators work and use fuel instead of just the natural hydro. that would make the bills even bigger. have a nice day. ann

I saw the documentary about Meralco a couple of days ago. It reveals that Meralco passes the costs/expenses of these "operational matters" to consumers: helipad, parking lot, sports centers, pensions of their employees. The head of the government agency that approves the rate increases meanwhile are now mockingly labelled the spokesperson of Meralco. No wonder the prices of our bills are skyrocketing.

I see we have the same problem and we are in the same location. I am from mindanao, philippines and our electric bill too was doubled. from Php1200 per month(190KWH), our bill now was whooping at Php2000 this month alone and the reading was 200KWH. Our local electric distributor explained to us that they need to increase the charge because the National Grid Corporation, formerly TRANSCO, claimed that from regular Php3M per month it was increased to Php13M on April and up to Php38M on May. This amount was then passed on to our local electric distributor and then to the endpoint to us - the consumers! The saddest part here was that despite of this increase, we still experienced a 2-6 hrs of rotating brownout each day last summer. This is clearly an injustice for us the consumers. and the government also reasoned out that they had nothing to do with this since the NGCP is a private company. But by the way, NGCP is a government company, but they cant control it. This is so terrible. I already know this would happen because of the recently concluded election, they are claiming back what they had spent on campaigning. That is my analogy, whats yours?

dear ding, this is funny yet i know it is true in many places. i have worked in a real estate renting business hence i know that most people in a private property are not allowed to have the basic necessities like light and water. i hope you can transfer to something somewhere where you could at least feel the joy of using the basic necessities without fear of getting caught because you have tapped somewhere. and i tell you it is risky to fire outbreaks. ann

Hi tigeraunt. I think there is something wrong with the meter. I almost use as many electric devices as yours, several lamps, a refrigerator, two electric fans and a table computer. I'm working in the office from 9am till 7pm weekdays. I use about 60kwh per month.

I think that is too much. I practically have the same appliances as you and there are 6 of us in our house. Aside from that, I have an airconditioner that I usually turn on at night. The average bill that I pay every month is around 2,500 pesos. There must be something wrong with your system or perhaps the charges per kwh in your are is quite high. I am sorry, I do not know how much is the charge per kwh in our place. I am not very particular with such since I just pay the bill when its there and do not scrutinize it much.

Hello, Ann.;-) MY electric bill costs me P2,000 + this month. And what do you know? I use only one electric fan, a fridge and one tv (which I hardly use) , and this desktop. Oh, I use washing machine twice this month too. I don't even use all the lights in the house, only one bulb is being used.Like you I turned off everything not being used, unplugged them. It makes me wonder, too. I've heard hubby complaining last week that the cost of electricity will increased this month... Sigh...

I've seen your profile and I saw you are in the Philippines. Your bill was too much, but I have a suggestion go to Meralco's website(if it is your electric provider) then search for the M.A.C it is an application that calculate your wattage consumption. Also are you sure that no one is leeching in your electricity? Maybe someone is connecting with yours without your consent. Your bill is too much. I have an air con operating more that 10hrs a day but still Im paying 2000 for my electric bill.

dear hanagi, am from the south hence it is not meralco that is providing. i have checked as well and i am sure that no one is tapping my electricity without my consent. how? i unplugged all appliances and put off the light. lowered the main switch and checked if the meter is running. thank you so much, your input is very helpful. will try get the website of the company. have a nice day. ann

its always the poor household consumer that suffers... all the big companies who steal electricity..have nothing to worry about ..just pay the board employees some..and get rid of the problems... we consumers are then forced to pay a huge amount..for what...?? perhaps its right...we need to look for new sources..of course generated by us and for us...so that there will be no one to claim for ... thanks for sharing... have a great day/night...
