Does it mean that unhappy people don't have anything they want in life? may be the unhappy people have more than what happy people have yet they can live happily, how? May be they know how to get the best from what they have. Are you a happy person?

Here i wish to say something vijayanths. Some people though they have lots of everything, are not satisfied but still want to have more and worry for that and unhappy always. Where as some other people are there, who live happily with what they have in hand thinking that atleast God has given them this much comparing to others who do not have even a morsel of food for the next meals. I think i belong to the second category. I am definitely a happy and jolly and cheerful person on the earth

No person will be satisified wht he has...the more you have the more you need. Thats simple economics the law of wants. When we have little we want more, when we get more we want even more...when everything is gone we feel that little was enough. I am happy with want i have...i am greatful to GOD....i know he will give me what i want.

Very true edwardjoy. There is no limits for the endless desires of man. However there are some people who have understood life better and try to live with what they have. They are content wit what they have. Some people are always want to get more and more in life as your rightly pointed out.

Yes, I'm a happy person! Do I have everything I want? Definitely not! But I'm content with what I have. And when I think of it, I have so much. The True God has blessed with knowing Him and His purpose and knowing the future of the earth and mankind. I understand why evil exists and its short future. I have millions of friends across the earth in almost every country of the earth. Yes, I have so very much!

I don't belive that there is someone who is totally satisfied with everything he has, actually. You can never be totally satisfied. I am a happy person, ofcourse there is a lot of stuff I want, but not that i NEED. There is a different. I have everything I need, but still there's stuff I want, yet im still happy. Sometimes you meet obstacles and get problems in your life which can make you unhappy at the moment, but most of the time Im happy. I've got wonderful friends, family, fiance and everything else that I need, so why complain? :)

oh, that's so touching johnpillai. You have learned a great lesson in life and you kept on practicing it. I am sure your response will be an inspiration to other Mylotters. Smiling at difficult situations is a great quality that only some people can have. glad you have the quality.

These are not just words. I perfectly know the value of smiling. Once i was a teacher in Sri Lanka. Teacher for grade 10 children. Big children. Those days I had many problems in my life. I just wanted to cry the whole day long. In front of big children doing like this is very mad. When I enter in to the classroom the children say "good morning teacher". Though I wanted to cry I just smile. Though it was a artificial smile that creat new blood in me. The simple smile wipe away the worries and give new strength in me. This is my own experience. So now I start each and everything with smile. (Some times it can be artificial)

Hi vijayanths, I think pursue too many would make a person feeling unhappy if he fails to reach all of them. Most of us wouldn't feel satisfied even if we have everything we need initially. There are yet countless new goals we aim to reach once we have achieved the latest one. Therefore I believe people who content with what they possess basically always feel happy. I'm happy with what I own presently. I feel satisfied to see everyone of my family healthy and happy with their respective work and life. We should pay for considerable time and great effort to live for luxurious life. Anyway I still prefer to live a simple and happy as well as relaxing life Have a nice day

I can't say that I am happy, but rather content with what I have in life right now. I guess people who have everything in life are happy, but it really depends on the person and his idea of contentment.

Hi, anne, it's enough if you are content with what you have. It means you are not unhappy with your present life. Now it is easier to bring happiness in your life. Many people have a misconception that money alone can make people happy. I think it's not true.

hello dear anna, Rich and famous are not as happy as we expected them to be,it is very known to us. And,they all got the money and maybe everything that an average person possess. Yet,they are not the happiest person on earth. Material things are temporal,if that is what we consider as one happiness. I am not rich, not even famous, but i can say i am happy with my life, thu it is not perfect according to the society's scale and standards. I can manage to laugh and smile and say thanks for all the blessings and happiness i had with my everyday life. Happiness cannot be buy or bought,it is something to achieve worth more than the richest of this world.

happy people need not have evrything in life..but they are happy with whatever they have.. a poor person is one who has more desires.or a person who has short of luxuries.so if you are happy with what u have, no more are u a poor person.a subhashita reads, "manasi cha parithushte koSrthavaan ko daridraha?" when u are content, there is no difference between a rich and a poor.

not because your happy it means you have everything, as being happy requires nothing but just satisfaction in your part. even if you only have few and not that rich you can be happy if your surrounded with family and friends who love you very much. you can be happy everyday in simple way, happiness depends to every person, if you can be happy then so be it even if you dont have whatever you want in life. dont just put boundaries in your happiness with the things you want and can have as its no longer happiness but just wants and needs, a fake happiness. as happiness will comes from within and it will happen in natural way.

well said homeshoppers. Satisfaction is what more important than anything else for being happy in life.If you have a loving family to support you through thick and thin, you can live happily ever. If you have lots of money and have none to show real love or care, how can you be happy?

For me happiness means you are contented with what you have. As I have observed with people like the celebrities, they have everything: money, fame, fabulous lives but still they're not happy. Sometimes it goes this way; if you have a good career, you don't have a successful love life; likewise if you have a successful love life, your career is not good. Life is not perfect. I believe that it's how you make it. You can be happy if you're not looking for those dreams that is very hard for you to achieve. But you're happy for what you've got.

hi, mercedlegurpa, you have made a good point there. Some celebrities have everything yet they are not happy. They are living with insecurity and unhappiness. You should have dreams and work hard towards them. But you should also learn to live happily with what you have now.

This is a very interesting discussion. I too am having financial problems as well, that does not really make me unhappy, but makes me very stressed out. I know that if things were okay financially I still would not be a happy person. I really love some things about my life, but I feel some people are just not as happy as other people. Some friends of mine just allude happiness regardless of what is going on in their lives. I love to be around them because they will make me laugh. I really don't laugh a lot, I am very serious all of the time. I don't like being this way, but I don't know how to change it.

hi, aurorastorm, nice you liked this discussion. Most of us have financial problems. But still we can live happily if we have that mind set. We need to work hard to solve the financial problems on one side. On the other side we can continue to live happily.

HI Vijayanths, Happiness is a state of mind, and I believe this. Having more or less of material and non-material things doesn't actually define one's happiness, coz it is a person's decision whether he/she will be happy with what he has. I am happy because I have my family, and while we don't have everything we want, we have one another and that alone is good enough reason to be happy.
• India
22 Jul 10
You are absolutely right doryvien, It's the state of mind that matters. I do agree that having more or less of material and non-material things doesn't actually define one's happiness. You have to learn to live with happiness in all situations. I think it's difficult but not impossible.

I don't think so. They have everything they want in life only they are not contented with it. Because the moment they were able to get it, they started wanting another thing. Other people put their happiness over the material things that's why happiness is just temporary and skin deep. Happy people doesn't mean that they have everything they want in life. As matter of fact, some of these people lack some of the things they want and need, yet they are still happy. It is because their happiness is focused on the immaterial things but rather love and relationship with people and God.They have peace of mind and are contented with their lives.:-)

...Hi there vijayanths, Yes I am a happy person because I try to be a positive person. There are times I have moments of sadness but not many. It takes too much time and wears on you in a negative way. I really don't think that things accummulated make you happy, after all you can only wear one pair of shoes at one time, drive one car at a time or wear one fur coat at a time. You can only travel or be in one place at a time and you get tired or bored with all of it. So it's your perspective and your internal thinking also your attitude that helps one to be happy. Happy is also relative. A lot of people who have a lot of money are not always happy because they are not satisfied or content. Contentment brings happiness. Take care.

Hi, artistry, nice to note you are a happy person. Of course every one goes through very bad times in life. We do get negative thoughts sometimes. It's true that we can't eat 10 times a day, can't travel five cars at a time. We just need the basic needs. Once we have the basic needs we can live a happy life.

Happiness is a state of mind. There are people who have everything but don't know how to smile. There are so many poor people in the streets who have happier faces than those who ride their limousines. We can choose to be happy or not. It is up to you. The secret is to be satisfied with what we have and not crave for things that are beyond our reach. In short, just be realistic and learn to accept the realities of life. We only have to consider that what we have right now are the best things in life.

hi, cutie, you are absolutely right. I agree with you that there are people who have everything but still they don't know how to smile. On the other hand there are so many poor people in the streets who live happier. Yes, It is up to the individual. I enjoyed reading your thought provoking response.

Happy person maybe have less they want than unhappy person. The main problem is happy person has positive attitude in daily life and other things.Unhappy person is opposite to happy person, they have negative attitude. So the people with positive attitude always happy.
• India
22 Jul 10
Yes, llbo, I agree with you that the right attitude that is important to be happy. It,s not the wealth that makes one happy. It's the mind set that plays a big role in a person's happiness. A rich man can lead an unhappy life wherein a poor man can enjoy a happy life.

Happiness and unhappiness are states in life caused by events or things that we may or may not possess. I don't really like the feeling of being unstable, so I chose to have joy even if the situation is not a happy one. I agree with the questions that you have asked and the statement made. Vijayanths, what do you consider yourself to be?

hello reaywriter, nice to note that you don't really like the feeling of being unstable, so you chose to have joy even if the situation is not a happy one. That's a great quality. I do try my best to live happily with what I have. I am fairly successful in it too. But I have bigger aims too.
