Why is black and white not a color?

why is it that black and white are not considered colors?

Wonderful - both are colors only.. Black is a black color and white is also a white color - isn't it...!!! Is there any doubt.....

I still consider them as colours :o They aren't considered as colours because they aren't colourful. They are not like green, blue, yellow, red, orange and others. I don't know how to explain it... Maybe it will be because old televisors were just black and white and then coloured came out, so this thing makes them colour and non-colour (black and white)

Welcome to mylot As a physicist i can say, we have seven basic colors that you see in a rainbow, millions of colors can be made from these Well add all the seven basic colors you get white Absense of all is black Hope this helps.. i think black and white are colors... coz if theyre not, then i wont be seeing black and white..

i am openion black and white are not colours because of mixture of black and white the colours are originating.Depending upon the content of black and white the colours are praoduced.But they are not considered as colours

Because black and white are basic colors they don't mix to create other colors

They are not considered colors because one reflects all the light from the other colors and one absorbs all the light from the other colors...I think that is the way it was explained to me a hundred years ago in art class.
